The Little Known Box

Hello beauty addicts!

I have been meaning to post a blog about this subscription box for some time and now finally I’ve done it! If you follow my Instagram, you’ll know I published a photo of this box and its contents, it’s a limited edition that was brought out for Christmas and its lovely!

I’ve tested a few subscription box companies in the last 12 months and this was the first time I came across The Little Known Box company. They have actually only been around since May 2016 and this was their first limited edition box. It cost £35 but for that price, you receive 8 full-size products and 1 travel size product which is really good value for money compared to some similar boxes, as you often only receive travel sizes.

Inside the box:

  • Flint and Flint moisturiser
  • White Rabbit Skincare, Orange Blossom & Aloe Vera Toner
  • Terre Verdi Franchoulipom Facial Serum

  • Saturated Colour Make Me Shimmer highlighter
  • PHB Ethical Beauty Natural & Organic Black Eyeliner
  • Glitter eyes pressed glitter duo
  • Epic Blend Lip Balm
  • Manna Kadar Cosmetics Radiance split pan
  • HJ Manicure Nail Polish

So far, I have only tested a few of the products (see below for initial thoughts) but I am impressed! I love that there is a reasonable mix of skincare and makeup products and the quality of the brands I have tried is very good.

The Brands

The two brands I was really keen to try were Glittereyes and Saturated Colour. I have heard so many positive reviews about their products that I was very excited to check this for myself! Below are the swatches for the glitter duo and the highlighter:

The pigmentation of the glitter duo is amazing! Both shadows are soft and creamy and after only one swatch the colour pay off is excellent and there is no need for glue. The highlighter is in the form of a pencil and is also very soft and easy to blend on the cheekbones, under the eyebrows or in the inner eye corner.

I also tried the eyeliner and the lip balm and again found both to be lovely products. I have always struggled to find a lip balm that actually moisturised my lips without feeling tacky, just sitting on the surface of the lips or worst still drying my lips out. This lip balm made my lips soft and sank into the skin easily and after hours my lips still felt moisturised. As a final bonus, it smells and tastes of cherry!

The eyeliner was equally effective, the texture of the pencil was soft so as not to pull the skin around the eye, it did not smudge easily and the colour was an intense black:

I will be testing the skincare products and the remaining makeup in the near future so when I do I will update this post!

And finally…

This box is still available on The Little Known Box website if you are interested in buying it – I am already so pleased with the products I’ve tested that I have just ordered the January box! Watch out for a sneak peek of that box on my Instagram!

The Stylepro Brush Cleaner – Just Amazing!

Hello lovely people!

I hope you’re all settling into 2017 well, so far I’m really loving it! Aside from keeping up to date with makeup and beauty trends and new products, which is fun in itself, I’ve started a new job which is going well! I’ve also started cooking more which has been a goal of mine for ages and I’ve started exercising which I have always avoided like the plague!

As part of my makeup love, I also try to keep track of new tools that come on the market like brushes and makeup storage. It was during my reading that I came across the Stylepro Brush Cleaner. Now I know I am probably behind the times when it comes to this product as a few of my friends have already told me that they bought it a few months ago, but once I found it I knew I needed to test it!

The Stylpro Pack

As a fledgeling MUA I am always looking for simple, quick and easy ways to keep my brushes clean. Up to now it was a hard task – every method still involved a lot of time and effort and my brushes did not always feel or look as clean I wanted.

Until now. This brush cleaner is simply brilliant! It isn’t cheap but you get what you pay for and then some. Inside the box you will find the cleaning bowl and rim, 8 brush holders to fit different brush sizes, 2 pouches of brush cleanser, the battery-powered brush cleaning motor and instructions for use.

Despite all the separate parts, it’s actually really easy to use! For this review, I decided to clean a few brushes and show you the before and after. Frankly, I was amazed at the results!

The Brushes

These are the brushes I selected to test on – I have shown you before and after shots for three of them below as an illustration. The last image above is how the brush, brush holder and motor fit together. I have to say the fit of the holders was very good and all the brushes I used fit comfortably into the relevant holder.

The first brush I decided to test was a foundation brush. This was perfect as foundation is notoriously difficult to clean from the brush because the bristles are more tightly packed. It also allowed me to gauge the effectiveness of the provided brush cleanser.

The first image is how my foundation brush looked before it was cleaned. The final images show the end result. Not only was the brush the cleanest it has ever been since I bought it but it was also totally dry and beautifully soft and fluffy again! There was no bristle fallout or damage to the brush at all even though the speed at which it spins is crazy fast. The whole process took less than a minute and only a small amount of cleanser, which you can use for more than one brush without any reduction in the effectiveness of the clean! Below are images of the other brushes I cleaned, one after the other using the same cleanser I started with:

I continued to clean a few more brushes after these and every result was the same – completely clean, dry and no change in the quality of the brush. I could have happily cleaned every single brush I own!

Final Thoughts?

Overall, I can say with absolute confidence that this brush cleaner is worth every penny and it lives up to its claims. I have always hated going through the rigmarole of cleaning my brushes, especially as I have so many, but this product makes it fun, easy and super quick – you could literally clean your brushes as you are using them and it would barely add any time onto your makeup routine. Because the cleaner and its parts are small it is also portable. As a MUA you could take it to bookings and ensure your brushes are clean throughout the session and in between clients. Another added feature is that you don’t have to use the brush cleanser provided in order to get the same excellent results, you can use any brush cleanser, even baby shampoo!

If there was one thing this brush cleaner lacks it’s the added ability to clean sponges like the beauty blender! If Tom could invent a product or a bolt on to this brush cleaner that would allow sponges to be cleaned to the same standard as brushes, we would be in cleaning heaven!

So, if any of you are searching for a foolproof method for cleaning your brushes to the highest possible standard and have the money or the ability to save up, I would definitely recommend you invest in this product – you won’t regret it!

Thanks for reading, I hope you found my review helpful! Don’t forget to follow me to get alerts for each new post!

Hello 2017!

Happy New Year! I hope you all had an amazing Christmas and New Year and started 2017 in good spirits! I don’t know about many of you but 2016 was a pretty awful year for me in most respects so I was glad to close the door on it and start a new chapter.

With that in mind, I have finally made time to write my first post! Trying to decide what to write my first post about has been a challenge as there are so many things I want to share with all of you!

After lots of deliberation, I decided that I would start with a review of my 2016 Christmas makeup haul! These are all the lovely products I received:

The Palettes

To say I was thrilled is an understatement! I was so excited that I immediately swatched each palette, except the Benefit blusher palette which did not show up easily on my arm. I’ve set out the swatches below with my initial review of each:

  1. Kat Von D Metal and Matte

Excuse the photo quality – I am slowly improving my photography skills! Hopefully, you can still see every colour above, the shadows are frankly amazing! The texture of each one was smooth and buttery. For the majority of the palette, the above is the pigmentation after only one swipe on my olive skin tone. I haven’t used all the colours in my makeup looks yet but I definitely will be experimenting more with this palette this year and highly recommend buying it!

2. Anastasia Beverley Hills Glow Kit & Urban Decay Vice Lipstick Vault

As we’ve come to expect with ABH products, the Glow Kit is a gorgeous addition to the range and excellent quality. Each highlighter is distinct in its colour, can be as subtle or as bright as you want and will show up on any skin tone. The texture of them is soft and creamy with very little fallout. I’ve only used a couple of the shades so far but thoroughly impressed!

As for the Urban Decay palette, I am not usually a fan of lipstick palettes for personal use, mainly because they aren’t travel-friendly the way an individual lipstick is. However, this palette is actually small enough to slip into your handbag and the range of colours is great with something for every taste and skin tone. When I swatched each shade, you can see the pigmentation is excellent even for the lightest colour. I’ve never used a grey or green lipstick before but could be persuaded to try now!

3. Urban Decay Full Spectrum

The variety of colours and the mix between matte and shimmer shades is lovely. BUT whilst some of the shades came through very pigmented on one swatch a few needed 2-3 swipes before the colour would really show. These were mainly in the first row. That being said when I have used them on my eyes they are easily buildable and blend well so I wouldn’t consider it a major flaw.

4. Violet Voss Drenched Metal

If you have never used Violet Voss eyeshadows you are missing out! I already had the Holy Grail palette which is one of my all time favourite palettes and I was dying to try this one. It didn’t disappoint! All the colours are metallic/foiled and they are super pigmented, silky to the touch and blend beautifully. They do have some fall out when using them so its a must to tap off excess but its a minor issue compared to the quality. Violet Voss will be bringing out an even bigger palette this year so as soon as it has been released and I can get my hands on it I will post a review!

Whilst I haven’t swatched the Benefit blusher palette, I have used them all and they are lovely – just enough colour and will suit all skin tones. The palette contains Sugarbomb, Rock, Coralista, Dandelion and Hoola. My favourite for regular use is Sugarbomb but all of them are great and there’s a colour for every makeup look!

So that’s my Christmas makeup haul review done! This will be the first of many makeup/ product reviews as I am always buying new items to test, like most of you probably do too! I hope you liked this blog – if you have any suggestions or comments feel free to leave them below and remember to subscribe!

Thanks, beauty lovers xxx
