Guest Post: Skincare – Winter to Spring!

Guest Post by Caitlin Miller

Our skin changes with the change of seasons. Therefore, we also need to change our skincare routine! We cannot maintain the same skincare methods every season. We need to follow a simple but effective routine to keep our skin perfect!

Winter is the season when days are short and nights are long. We feel cold, and our skin becomes dry and itchy. On the other hand, Spring is entirely different! Our skin will be exposed to more sunlight and environmental factors and naturally more hydrated. So, we need to change our skincare routine. For example, the moisturiser we use in the Winter months will not suit our skin in the Spring!

Here are my top tips for changing skin care while switching from Winter to Spring:

CLEANSING the skin

Cleansing helps us to remove dead skin cells, oil, and dirt from the skin. When Spring comes, using a good cleanser for your skin type will ensure you can show off your skin without having to use makeup and products to mask any blemishes, pigmentation and uneven areas. Cleansing day and night will also ensure that pores are minimised and limit breakouts!

Start exfoliating

In Winter, our skin dries out more quickly and leaves dead skin cells. So, Spring is the time to help skin recover! We all want smooth soft skin and we all know that smooth skin is the key element to helping us look beautiful. Scrubbing helps to clean our skin of old cells and clogged pores. It also helps us to increase the glow of our skin giving a more clear and radiant result! Many exfoliators also contain anti-ageing ingredients, an added bonus! However, you shouldn’t exfoliate more than twice a week as this can stress the skin.

Moisturising the skin

Moisturiser seems a simple thing to use, but it helps us in many ways. A lightweight moisturiser in the Spring will keep the skin looking hydrated and fresh and allows it to breathe without adding to any oil production. It can also be mixed with foundation to create a tinted moisturiser, avoiding the need for heavy foundation!

Apply (and re-apply) sunscreen

With the weather changes, our skin may suffer from peeling and redness as it adapts. Sunscreen can help protect us from this as well as prevent sunburn as the weather hots up! Sunscreen will also protect us from the risk of various types of skin cancer. Luckily, many face and makeup products already contain sun protection so if you haven’t already checked this it’s worth doing so and investing in a few key items if needed! An SPF factor of 50 is ideal – don’t forget to protect your lips as well!

Nature has a lovely relationship with our skin. In Winter we feel uncomfortable as our skin becomes dry. On the other hand, at the time of Spring, we can feel the extra oil in our skin. So, we need to ensure that we balance our skin needs which will result in glowing, naturally youthful skin!

Guest post: A Complete Guide to Autumn Skin Care

GUEST POST: Brigitte EvansHigh Style Life

skin care-autumn

Summer is nearly over, and autumn is knocking on our doors. This means that many things are about to change, and that doesn’t include only taking a break from our summer wardrobe. New season requires a whole new approach to skin care because with the weather getting colder, your skin will become drier and more prone to cracks and damage. But let’s not stress about it; here are all the things you need to do to keep your skin healthy and radiant this autumn.

Stop using soaps

Soaps and other products that contain fragrances sure smell wonderful, and they can make you feel refreshed after a long day at the beach. However, using them during autumn can leave your skin dry. Instead, you should try soap-free cleansers and other fragrance-free products.

Use oil-based exfoliators

Exfoliation is important for removing dead skin cells and helping your skin absorb all the creams and lotions you are using for that perfect complexion. There is one thing to keep in mind during this season, though ‒ oil-based scrubs are better because they exfoliate and hydrate at the same time.

Opt for thick moisturisers

Your hydrating lotion might have been working quite fine during summer, but now, when the weather is becoming harsher, you will need to upgrade your protection to thicker moisturisers that are capable of keeping your skin hydrated even during the cold autumn months.

Don’t forget your hands

Your hands are the perfect target for chilly weather, and to prevent them from becoming cracked and dry, you should invest in a quality hand cream.

Protect your lips

In summer, you need to protect your lips from the harsh sun; in autumn, you have to shield them from cold winds – it’s the natural life cycle. Just like your hands, your lips can also crack and dry out because of the weather. Prevent that by using a petroleum-based lip balm.

Grab a youth serum

Oh, you haven’t heard about it yet? There is an ingredient that can reduce the appearance of brown spots caused by the long hours spent on the beach, smooth the texture of the skin and delay skin ageing. It is called retinol (vitamin A). Now it probably sounds more familiar. You can find it in serums or ask for a prescription retinoid.

Get your body in shape

Let’s face it, no one works very hard during summer, which means that you have probably put on a pound or two on your vacation. This is something you will most likely notice when you try to fit into your favourite pair of jeans. There is a quick and healthy solution to it, a non-invasive procedure called body sculpting, which will ensure that you are free of all those persistent pockets of fat without hurting your skin.

Don’t ditch your sunscreen

You’re not going to the beach, so you don’t need sunscreen anymore. That sentence makes perfect sense, doesn’t it? Well, not exactly. The sun isn’t going anywhere, even though it seems to be losing its power. It can still affect your skin and cause it to age faster. That is why it is important to apply sunscreen every time you go outside.

Sleep on silk

Sleeping on silk may sound overly posh for your taste, but there is a logic behind this. Silk pillowcases are known to help prevent skin redness, dryness and acne breakouts. Since it is a natural product, silk is also hypoallergenic. Therefore, it is a win-win situation ‒ sleep like a diva and wake up looking like one.

What have we learned, girls? Autumn can be cruel to your skin, so don’t forget to protect your gorgeous skin from the harsh winds and cold days!

Azenti Organics – My Review

Hello, beauty fans!

Its been a couple of weeks since my last post for which I am sorry. My day job is pretty exhausting at the moment! I’ve also been writing for other sites where I can – keep an eye on my social media feeds for links to those posts!

Now that I finally have some time to write for my own blog, I wanted to share a new brand I have discovered with you! This brand was unknown to me until my mother brought it to my attention because she knows the creator!

Who is Azenti Organics?

Azenti Organics is an organic skincare provider. They create skincare products formulated by a skincare and aromatherapy professional. The products are made from the highest quality, organic, plant based ingredients and designed to target specific skin types. The founder of Azenti Organics is professionally accredited and qualified as a Skincare Products Practitioner, an Aromatherapist and a professionally qualified Holistic Facial Therapist.

Azenti is:

  • against animal testing
  • supports ethically sourced ingredients
  • uses recyclable packaging and
  • promotes wellness

It is based in the West Midlands but operates nationally. The products range from face oils, body care and remedies to home fragrances and spa treatments. They also offer a wellness subscription, which operates like a beauty box subscription!

What did I test?

I was given the opportunity to test two of the products, a face oil for oily/combination skin and a tropical body oil. I received full-size versions of both, allowing me to test them properly for the last few weeks.

The Face Oil

This oil is gorgeous!  It contains Omega 3 and 6 and is a dry oil. It is designed to help clear congested skin, refines pores, regulates sebum, increases cell turnover and boosts collagen. It contains Organic Fruit and Seed Oils with Plant oils, giving it a pleasant scent on the skin.

When I started using it, I found it lightweight and easily absorbed into the skin. My skin did not feel greasy after use nor did it leave any residue. I used it every morning and some evenings too and I noted that my skin felt soft, brighter, dewy and most importantly there were no breakouts! It’s a truly lovely oil and I would certainly consider buying it in the future!

The Body Oil

I LOVE this oil! From the beautiful packaging to the scent, which is truly tropical, its a delight. I love that I can see the ingredients through the bottle! The oil contains the organic scents of tropical coconut and pineapple, along with nourishing organic sunflower oil that absorbs easily into the skin. It also includes:

  • vitamins A, D and E
  • organic thistle oil packed full of skin friendly omega 6 which helps to clear congested skin
  • organic apricot kernel oil which protects and rejuvenates and
  • organic rosehip oil which has been clinically tested to minimise the appearance of wrinkles promotes collagen and elastin levels and helps to delay the effects of ageing

So, all in all, it’s very good for you!

When I started using it all over my body, I noted that it was very much like a dry oil, absorbing quickly into my skin and leaving a lovely sheen without feeling oily. My skin remained soft and nourished for hours and I could still smell the tropical scents for a little while after use. It also worked well on particularly dry areas like the knees and elbows and calmed some areas of eczema I had developed!  I have been using it every day and so far there have been no downsides – it will definitely go onto my skincare favourites list!

final thoughts

Overall, Azenti Organics produces some lovely products, all good quality and all beneficial to the skin. The ethos of the company is admirable and they ensure that all aspects of the business are ‘world’ friendly as well as creating affordable and varied ranges. If you like using organic products and want to support a brand that values the world this is the company to try. You can see all their products here.

Thanks for reading! Don’t forget to like, share and comment, I always love to hear from you!

Arbonne Skincare – My Mini Review

Hi there, beauty fans!

I hope you are all well, this post has been a little delayed as I have been really busy with other projects – check out my last post here to find out what I have been up to in the last few weeks!

So, in this post I want to promote the brand Arbonne! On my journey through the blogger world I met a lovely lady called Danielle Clark who is an Arbonne Consultant and she very kindly offered me the skincare samples below to test. I came across Arbonne a few years ago too and at that time I tested a makeup primer, which was gorgeous, a body oil which I still use now and facial exfoliating pads which had a great effect on my skin! When Danielle offered me the chance to test the skincare range I was really keen to, so I could see if the brand was as good as I remembered!

Arbonne Samples

All these samples are from the RE9 range which is their leading anti-ageing range.

The collection contains:

  • A facial cleanser
  • A regenerating toner
  • An intensive serum
  • A corrective eye cream
  • A restorative day cream
  • An extra moisture restorative day cream
  • A night repair cream

Given the sizes of the samples I used everything up within a few days, however this was enough time to gain a flavour for the quality and effect on my skin! My initial thoughts for each product are:

  • The Cleanser

I used this every morning for a few days. The cleanser is a gel like consistency and felt lovely on the skin, leaving it feeling soft and clean afterwards with no tightness.

  • The Toner

As with most toners this was a clear liquid which I used after the cleanser on a cotton pad. I did not need a lot to sweep over my entire face and my skin remained soft and hydrated afterwards which was great as many toners can be too astringent and leave the skin too dry and tight.

  • The Serum

I love using serums on my skin and definitely think they are important as you age to keep the skin supple and nourished. This serum was lovely and light but left my skin feeling hydrated and smooth. I also didn’t need too much to cover my face fully.

  • The Eye Cream

The eye cream was one of favourite products from the samples! It was rich and thick and soaked into the delicate eye skin really well. My eye area felt deeply moisturised afterwards and I could see the area brighten after use! A definite must try!

  • The Everyday Day Cream

This cream was quite thick but absorbed into the skin well and there was no leftover residue or film after use, which for me is important as my skin type is oily combination. My skin felt plump and soft afterwards and looked fresh and smooth and whilst I did not have enough product to fully test if it had longer term anti – ageing effects I would be very surprised if it didn’t!

  • The Extra Moisture Day Cream

I used this only on days where the weather was colder as I think this cream would be best used in the colder months. It was very thick and rich and very moisturising! As with the everyday cream, it did not leave my skin feeling greasy but I could tell I had used a richer cream from the way my skin felt. I would certainly consider using this in the Winter when my skin can be very dry and rough.

  • The Night Cream

Looking after my skin at night is very important to me and is also a lovely night-time treat! I have used lots of night time skin care products and I really liked this cream – it was quite buttery to the touch but absorbed well and my skin felt great the following morning too!

All in all, I was very impressed with the Arbonne RE9 range. Everything was good quality, had a pleasant fragrance and did not make my skin react or breakout in any way. With continued use I can believe the products would have a positive effect on the skin and keep it healthy, smooth and soft. I cannot comment on whether it would also tackle any fine lines and wrinkles simply because I would need to trial everything for much longer but based on my experience I don’t see why it would not improve them in the long-term. I would definitely think about buying the full size products once I have run out of my existing skincare products! If you would like to know more about Arbonne you can check out Danielle’s link here.

I hope you enjoyed reading this review and will consider trying Arbonne in the future! As always, would love to read your comments and do share and follow my blog if you don’t already!

See you again soon,

The Body Shop Beauty & Skin Care – My Review

Hi, beauty fans!

I can’t believe it is already May 2017! This year is flying by but so far it has been a positive one! I have already been presented with some very exciting opportunities and I have met some lovely people – long may it continue!

The Body Shop

One such opportunity I was given was to review a selection of skin care products and makeup from The Body Shop! One of my old school friends is now a Body Shop Consultant and thought I would be interested to try some of the recent ranges so she kindly sent me some samples. In return, I offered to do a review of the products and now after a few weeks of testing everything I am finally able to write this post!

I have loved The Body Shop for years, mainly for their body care and the lovely Christmas ranges they always create each year! I had never really tested the skin care or the makeup so this was a real eye-opener, for me! This is what I received:

On the left are the following products:

  • Lip and Cheek Stain in Vineyard Peach
  • A Himalayan Charcoal Purifying Glow Mask sachet
  • An Oils of Life Intensely Revitalising Facial Oil sachet
  • A Drops of Youth Youth Bouncy Sleeping Mask sachet
  • Drops of Youth (Facial) Concentrate

On the right are samples of the following:

  • Amazonian Acai Mask
  • Instablur
  • Ethiopian Honey Mask
  • Chinese Ginseng and Rice Mask
  • All in One BB Cream
  • Drops of Light Day Cream
  • Vitamin C Liquid Peel
  • Drops of Youth Youth Cream
  • Oils of Life Revitalising Cream
  • Drops of Youth Liquid Peel
  • British Rose Mask

You can imagine how much fun I have had trying all these lovely samples! I managed to use everything a few times each to get a real feel for the products and how they affected my skin, and my review of each is below:

  • Lip and Cheek Stain

This product comes in 9 shades – I tested Vineyard Peach, which was fortunate for me as I love peach makeup! The actual stain is a creamy texture and very easy to blend into the skin. The colour is quite pigmented in the bottle but once on the skin, it provides a wash of colour rather than a super intense look. It can be built up to achieve a deeper more noticeable blush but I actually liked that it gave a more subtle natural glow. It has the same effect on the lips and doesn’t dry them out, but I preferred it as a blusher simply because I like my lip colour to be more obvious.

More Info: Lip and Cheek Stain

  • Himalayan Charcoal Purifying Glow Mask

I was very excited to try this mask as I have heard so many good things about it and about Charcoal in general. It’s unlike any other mask I have ever tried! It contains bamboo charcoal, tea tree oil and green tea leaves and the texture was a slightly loose, grainy but non-abrasive paste. The fragrance was pleasant and it doesn’t completely dry once applied but won’t easily move or drip either. I applied it for up to 5-10 minutes and then washed off and my skin looked and felt gorgeous! It was smooth, plump and soft and brighter than before. I got 3 uses from the sachet and the result each time was very good – I am sure if I was to use it as part of my regular skincare routine it would have long-lasting positive effects!

More Info: Himalayan Charcoal Purifying Glow Mask

  • Oils of Life Revitalising Facial Oil

This range is designed to provide radiance to the skin. Everything contains 3 seed oils – Black Cumin seed oil, Camellia seed oil and Rosehip seed oil, as well as essential oils and olive oil. It has a strong, slightly spiced scent and feels lovely on the skin. It absorbs easily and the skin feels soft and nourished afterwards. I am a big fan of facial oils and this one is a definite must try. As you don’t need more than a couple of drops at a time, I was able to use this oil a few times morning and night and I definitely noticed how great my skin felt and looked.

More Info: Oils of Life Revitalising Facial Oil

  • Drops of Youth Youth Bouncy Sleeping Mask

When I saw this amongst the samples I was so happy, as I love trying products that work overnight! This mask is designed to fight the first signs of ageing and provide plump fresh skin. The mask is a milky colour in a gel-cream formula and it smooths over the skin beautifully. You don’t feel like you’re wearing a mask at all! It isn’t sticky or wet once applied so my face didn’t stick to my pillows or bed linen and when I woke up my skin felt gorgeous! Even after I washed my face my skin remained soft and full. This was one of my favourite products out of the samples and I highly recommend trying it!

More Info: Drops of Youth Youth Bouncy Sleeping Mask

  • Drops of Youth Concentrate

Another great product from the Drops of Youth range! This Concentrate is like a facial serum, in a milky loose gel formula and you only a need a pea-sized amount to cover your whole face. It absorbs quickly and gives the skin a slightly blurred effect! This is great if you want to reduce the appearance of pores and fine lines! As the sample I was sent was a good size, I am still using this and I love it!

More Info: Drops of Youth Concentrate

  • Amazonian Acai Mask

I love face masks! Trying all the sample masks was skincare heaven for me! This mask almost feels like a scrub as it is slightly grainy! It smells really fruity and smooths onto the skin as a gel. I left it on for 5 minutes in each use and afterwards my skin felt fresh and soft and almost dewy! Its designed to invigorate the skin and it certainly did that!

More Info: Amazonian Acai Face Mask

  • Instablur

This product does exactly what the name implies! It is a soft clear putty which once applied blurs lines, pores and skin blemishes, leaving the skin very smooth and soft, ready for foundation. You can also wear it without makeup and it has the same effects. I normally use Benefit Porefessional to hide my pores etc. but I would consider switching to this now I have tested it!

More Info: All in One Instablur

  • Ethiopian Honey Mask

This mask smells and feels heavenly! It looks like it could be actual honey and has a definite honey scent, warm and comforting. It glides onto the skin as a thick gel, remains moist and after leaving on the skin for 5 minutes it washes off to leave radiant moisturised skin. If you suffer from dry skin it would be a great mask to replenish the moisture in the skin.

More Info: Ethiopian Honey Mask

  • Chinese Ginseng and Rice Mask

This was by far my favourite mask! It looks more like a scrub than a normal face mask but it is designed to exfoliate the skin as a mask. It has a creamy consistency with very fine rice grains and when I tried it I massaged it into the skin before letting it set, just to get some extra exfoliation from it! As with the other masks, I let it sit for 5 minutes and then washed it off and my skin felt simply amazing! So smooth and soft, more so than any of the other masks I tried and the texture of my skin looked and felt like it did when I was a child! This mask is definitely going on my wishlist!

More Info: Chinese Ginseng and Rice Mask

  • All in One BB Cream

This was probably my least favourite product. I don’t wear BB creams generally as I prefer foundations, so this product was already fighting an uphill battle! To be fair to the product, it does do what it is supposed to in that it adapted to my skin tone well and I did not need a huge amount to evenly cover my face. My skin did look more even after application as well. However I like my base to provide medium to full coverage which this did not do, not surprisingly as a BB cream, and I also did not like the smell of the cream, which was almost medicinal.

More Info: All in One BB Cream

  • Drops of Light Day Cream

The Drops of Light range is designed to brighten the skin and diminish dark spots. The effects become more apparent after a few weeks of use so I would need to keep using this product to determine if it does brighten the skin. However, after using it a few times I did find that it moisturised my skin well and left my skin dewy and smelling great! You can tell from the appearance of the cream itself that it has brightening qualities so I would expect that in time it would have the effect it states but I would have to keep testing it to be sure!

More Info: Drops of Light Day Cream

  • Vitamin C Liquid Peel

Peels are another skin care product I really love to use! After testing Cure Natural Aqua Gel, I realised how amazing a face peel can be so I was excited to try the Peels in the samples. This Vitamin C Peel was my favourite of the two I tested and my second favourite product from all the samples. It has a fresh citrus smell and turns from a gel into a liquid when applied to the skin. According to the description, you can let this product sit on the skin and then peel it off however I found it worked far better if you gently rubbed the liquid over the skin – you could see the dead skin flaking away! After rinsing the skin, it felt soft, fresh and smooth and looked brighter and less textured. This is another item I will be adding to my wishlist!

More Info: Vitamin C Liquid Peel

  • Drops of Youth Youth Cream

This cream is luxurious, thick and rich. It’s super moisturising, has a lovely comforting scent and leaves the skin feeling deeply hydrated and plump. As it is so rich, you don’t need much so I still have some of the sample left and will use it when my skin needs an extra dose of moisture.

More Info: Drops of Youth Youth Cream

  • Oils of Life Revitalising Cream

This is another thick nourishing day cream. As with the other Oils of Life sample, it has a lovely slightly spicy fragrance and whilst it feels oily on your fingers once applied to the face it absorbs well and there is no oily residue. The skin feels soft and supple after use and after continued use, you should see a reduction in the visible signs of ageing. I cannot vouch for that yet but just from my limited use, I would definitely consider buying it in the future.

More Info: Oils of Life Revitalising Cream

  • Drops of Youth Liquid Peel

This was the second peel I sampled, from the Drops of Youth range, however, I did not find this one nearly as effective as the Vitamin C Liquid Peel. To start I did not like the smell of the product which was very strong and almost astringent. I also found that whilst it did remove dead skin the result was not as noticeable as with the Vitamin C peel and I found that some of the peel was difficult to remove, especially where I had tiny facial hairs. If I had to choose which to buy the Vitamin C Peel would win hands down.

More Info: Drops of Youth Liquid Peel

  • British Rose Mask

This was the final mask I tested. As the name states, it’s all about the rose and should give you dewy plumped skin after use. It smells gorgeous and has visible rose extracts in the gel. After leaving it on my skin for 5 minutes and rinsing, my skin did feel fresh and soft but I have to say it was no more noticeable than any of the other masks. What I liked about this mask was the scent, which lingered on the skin even after removing it. If you love the rose scent then you’ll love this!

More Info: British Rose Mask

And that is the end of my Body Shop samples review! I have loved trying so many lovely products and luckily my skin has reacted well to everything given how many different things I have tried! It has also been great learning more about The Body Shop ranges and I have to say I would happily buy skincare from there now!

I know this is a particularly long post, but I wanted to make sure I covered every single product in enough detail to help all of you decide whether to spend your hard-earned money on them! Hopefully, I have done that and you’ve enjoyed reading this – if you have, I’d love for you to like and share the post and if you have any questions about the products feel free to leave them in the comments!

See you back here soon!

Bliss Fabulips – is it fabulous?

Hey there lovelies,

I hope you’re all looking forward to the weekend! My blog this week is later than usual as I have been so swamped and stressed with my ‘day job’ that I haven’t had the energy to come home and go straight back on the PC! Suffice it to say I cannot wait for the weekend!

Bliss Fabulips

I know I have been on more of a skincare vibe in my last few posts but I am really into caring for my skin at the moment. You all seem to enjoy reading them so I’ve done another one! This one, however, is about lip care. I don’t know about you but I struggle to keep my lips soft and smooth all year round. Sadly I also have a bad habit of chewing my lips, especially when I am stressed! This kit popped up when I was surfing the web and I had never heard of Bliss before so I thought it might be worth trying. I bought it and have been testing everything over the last 2-3 weeks.

The kit includes the following items:

  • On the far left, a lip scrub
  • In the middle, a lipstick style lip balm
  • Next, a lip cleanser
  • On the far right, a lip plumping cream

The Lip Scrub

I have tried using scrubs before and I even made a DIY lip scrub but I never found that they made any difference to the condition of my lips. This one is actually pretty good, in that it contains natural ingredients, has a pleasant taste and smell and the texture is not too abrasive but does buff the lips. This is what it looks like:

You don’t need a lot to scrub your top and bottom lips. I don’t use it every day but the days I have used it, my lips have felt noticeably softer and smoother afterwards. This effect will last to the day after use as well. I do have to say when I have forgotten to use it my lips do start to dry and chap again. Now it may be that no product can give me super soft smooth lips all the time but I was hoping this product might have a slightly longer lasting effect compared to others. Sadly it only seems to maintain the results if you use it religiously every couple of days, but it does work to a reasonable degree.

The Lip Balm

This is also pleasantly scented and not too soft in texture. It does moisturise the lips well and I tend to use it at night when I go to sleep so that it sinks in. In the morning my lips will still be reasonably soft but that won’t last into the day unless I apply more. For me, I am searching for a lip balm that can be applied sparingly and keep my lips soft all day. This is proving to be a challenge, which I hoped this lip balm would solve but it’s not quite there.

The Lip Cleanser

Now, this product is less about giving you soft lips. It is more about making sure they are clean and ready to absorb whatever you put on your lips afterwards. It’s really good for cleaning your lips after wearing heavy lipstick or a deep stained colour. Your lips do feel refreshed and clean and plump after use. This is probably my favourite item in the kit because it does what I expect it to! Like the other products, it has a lovely fragrance and pleasant taste and the texture is smooth and gel-like.

The Lip Plumper

I have to advise that I did not really notice any difference in my lips after using this! Apart from a slight tingling after the gel was applied, I did not see any change in the plumpness of my lips! It did give a nice sheen to my lips and added a little moisture but that’s about it. For obvious reasons, this was my least favourite item!

So does this kit deliver ‘full, healthy, beautiful lips’ as promised on the box? Overall, I would have to say it helps to keep your lips in good condition. BUT given what it has been created for, the effects aren’t as obvious and long-lasting as you would hope. The kit cost £25 which isn’t extortionate when you are getting 4 products but I would not buy it again. At most I would buy the cleanser on its own because that does deliver. However, I will have to continue my hunt for a good lip balm and lip scrub that gives me the luscious long lasting lips I want!

Hopefully, you enjoyed reading this post and found it useful! If you have any good recommendations for lip products I can try do leave your comments in the box below, I always love getting your feedback! If you did like this post, feel free to like and share and keep following me!

Thanks! xxx

My Liz Earle favourites – a treat for the skin!

Hi beauty lovers!

I hope you are all well and enjoying the sunshine wherever you are! My weekend has been non-stop! I’ve had a hectic week too but its been really exciting – I finally reached 1000 followers on Instagram! I have spent a lot of time cultivating my social media feeds since the start of 2017. Instagram has been a big focus so to reach my first 1000 felt amazing. I have also been contacted by companies for different opportunities to review products and even film a video review! Filming a video is new to me and will be an interesting challenge but should be fun!

Liz Earle Skincare

Onto my blog subject for today then! I have mentioned my love of Liz Earle a few times in other blogs and in social media comments so it was about time that I did a blog dedicated to her skincare! Liz Earle was introduced to me by a male friend who had been using her hot cloth cleanser for a while and raved about it. I have always been keen to try different skincare brands as my skin whilst not overly sensitive, has sometimes been temperamental and prone to breakouts. When Liz Earle was recommended to me I thought why not try it?

So, I went to her website and found that she did a travel sized pack of her main skincare products, which come in different skin types. I am an oily combination type so that is what I purchased. Since then I have never looked back! I will still test other brands for the purposes of my blog and to keep up to date with innovations but Liz Earle is my go-to skincare brand.

The Ranges

What I love about her ranges is the simplicity of the design and the vast array of skin care options. There is something for every skin type and skin issue and her products are paraben free and contain plant oils and extracts. She is actively against any animal testing or animal ingredients and takes the sourcing of her ingredients very seriously. When you order online, the products come beautifully packaged and there is often a free sample included. As for the quality of the range, it is excellent. After only a few days of using the hot cloth cleanser, I noticed how much clearer my skin looked and how soft it was. I have had a massive reduction in the number of breakouts I get since switching to her skincare and when I have tried anything new she has created it’s equally amazing.

So, what do I specifically use and love? Below are my staples from the range:

From left to right:

Instant Boost Skin Tonic

This is the toner from her range. It can be used across all skin types and is a clear non-perfumed liquid. You only need a small amount on a cotton pad to rub all over your face and it leaves the skin feeling fresh and clean without any tightening or drying effects. The size of the bottle is 200ml which lasts months so you aren’t’ constantly having to replenish!

Superskin Moisturiser with Natural Neroli

This moisturiser is gorgeous! It’s a thick indulgent cream that sinks into the skin beautifully, leaving it smooth and soft and very hydrated. You only need a pea-sized amount to cover your face and neck and because of the neroli, it has a lovely fragrance which lasts hours. I use this moisturiser mainly in the winter months because it is so nourishing for the skin but you can use it all year round and one tub will go a long way.

Superskin Face Serum

This is another product from the Superskin collection and it is equally brilliant. I love serums and this one is a cream formula rather than a thin liquid or gel which is the more common form serums take. Again, you only need a small amount to cover your face and you only use it in the morning. I use it before applying my moisturiser and more so in the autumn and winter when my skin needs an extra boost. It sinks into the skin really well and unlike some serums, it does not leave any oil or residue. It does, however, smooth my skin texture and makes my skin glow.

Superskin Eye and Lip Treatment

This product is now just an eye cream as Liz Earle has created separate lip products now (which are on my wishlist!). This cream is lovely, it is quite rich and thick and you only need a tiny amount to pat under the eye and on the eyelid. It hydrates the skin so well and I have noticed over time that I have very few lines under my eyes and the darkness I used to have has reduced. I have also used it on my lips and it did reduce dryness but I think it is far better as an eye cream. It also lasts ages.

Smoothing Line Serum

This serum is magic! It is a gel formula and very potent but without any fragrance. It is designed to use at night and not just on the face but on the neck and decolletage. Its purpose is to plump and firm the skin and I have to say it does do that after using it for a little while. It does have a slightly tacky feel once it is on the skin so it is best used at night on clean skin so that it can sink in overnight. As with the other products, you don’t need much at a time so it will last.

Skin Repair Light Moisturiser – Oily/Combination

This is my daily moisturiser during the spring and summer months. I use it after the toner and it is much lighter than the Superskin moisturiser, absorbing into the skin in seconds but with no less hydration. It is also fragrance-free and lasts a while, especially as I don’t use it all year round.

Superskin Concentrate for Night

This is a super rich night-time face oil which has a slightly herbal scent when applied. A little goes a long long way and the combination of ingredients relaxes you as you breathe it in. Your skin feels soft and nourished after application and the following morning! I don’t use this every night simply because it is like a pampering treatment for me but it is designed to be used every night all year round.

Superskin Hand Serum

Now I realise that this is not a face product but it is too good not to include! I often have very dry hands and I have struggled to find any cream that tackles the problem….until this one. This serum/cream is so moisturising that any dry patches I used to have on my hands have disappeared. I tend to use it at night when it can really work on the skin but it can be used all day and only a small amount is needed each time. Definitely one to have in your drawer for winter!

Cleanse and Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser

Only as I was writing this blog did I realise that I did not take a picture of the highlight of the range! Nevertheless, I had to of course include the hot cloth cleanser because it is simply exceptional. I have noticed since Liz Earle brought this out, many other brands have created their own version. I can’t say I am surprised because it is genius. The muslin cloth you receive with the cream cleanser is not abrasive on the skin yet gently exfoliates leaving soft, clean and radiant skin every time. You receive a muslin cloth every time you buy the cleanser too so even though you can wash them, you don’t have to. I can completely understand why this product has won awards because it transformed my skin!

So those are my skincare favourites! Saying that I have branched out into the hair and body care ranges and they are equally brilliant. I will save those reviews for another post! If you struggle to find good quality skin care or simply want to try something new, I definitely recommend Liz Earle. She stands for so many good things in the beauty industry and she is British so it feels good to support her brand and help it grow. She also produces makeup too so I will no doubt be testing that in the future!

I hope this blog was helpful! I would love to hear your views on Liz Earle or another brand you love! If you enjoyed reading this post, don’t forget to like and share! As always please follow and subscribe to my blog to keep up with my blogging journey!

The John Lewis Beauty Box

Hi there beauty lovers,

I hope your week is going well! I’ve had a busy week so far, I’ve noticed a lot of activity on all my social media feeds and my blog which is amazing – thank you all for your support! I need more hours in the day to read and respond to everything, anyone else feel like that?!

The John Lewis Beauty & skincare Box

Turning to this post, I have been meaning to do this review for AGES but kept forgetting it! If any of you are John Lewis club card holders you may recall receiving an email a few months ago about a limited edition members-only beauty box offer – this was the box! It was £25 and only available for a short time. Being a big beauty box fan, I wanted to buy it and see how it compared to other subscription boxes I’ve tried. I must stress John Lewis haven’t launched their own subscription box service, although I would definitely consider it if they did, judging by the quality of this one!

This is what the box contained:

There were 8 products in total, which is decent for a beauty box! It featured mostly skincare with a couple of makeup items, but everything was good quality from well-regarded brands. Taking each item in turn:

  • The Marc Jacobs Highliner in Blacquer

If you have not tried Marc Jacobs makeup, you really need to! It’s amazing quality and competitive in price to other popular makeup brands. This eyeliner is beautiful, very smooth in its application and a true black colour. I have a number of these eyeliners in different colours and they are all brilliant and very pigmented.

  • Laura Mercier Foundation Primer

Most of you will know I rate Laura Mercier as a brand – her makeup is excellent! This primer is a plain white fluid formula which absorbs into the skin really well and leaves it feeling smooth and soft ready for foundation application. When I have used this primer, my makeup has applied really well and has lasted throughout the day with very little loss of colour or ‘slippage’. If you’re in the market for a new primer, this one is definitely worth trying.

  • Origins Plantscription Anti-Ageing Power Serum

I have not used a great deal from the Origins brand although I have heard many good things about it, so receiving this was great as it allowed me to test something. I never used to use face serums until the last few months, but I can see why they are so popular and how beneficial they can be to the skin! This serum is very good, you don’t need a huge amount per application as it will go a long way and it leaves the skin feeling fresh and nourished. I put serums on before moisturiser and I can see the difference this extra step has made to the condition and feel of my skin. Give this one a try!

  • Benefit Gimme Brow Fiber Gel

I love Benefit products and have done for many years. When they launched the new eyebrow maintenance range I was like a child in a sweet shop, trying to figure out what to buy! I ended up buying the Ka Brow pot which is very good. The old version of Gimme Brow is already in my makeup kit so I did not buy that.

I was so happy to see this in the beauty box as it allowed me to compare my old version with the new improved one. It is even better than it was! It is difficult to put my finger on why but after using the new Gimme Brow, I found it filled my eyebrows more than before and the colour was a better darker shade which matched my eyebrow colour more closely. It’s a brilliant product in any event and a must for your makeup bag.

  • Clarins HydraQuench Cream-Mask

I never used to use any Clarins products until I received samples in the various subscription boxes I have tested, but having tried some of the skin care I do think its a quality brand. This mask looks like a moisturiser and I have only used it once as I have so many things to test, but it does work like a mask would, leaving skin feeling deep cleaned, soft and plump. Like with most masks I would not use it more than once a week as I like to exfoliate as well but it is a lovely mask to have in your collection for those pamper days.

  • Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser

This brand is exceptional! Liz Earle skincare transformed my skin from having lots of spots and blemishes to barely any, without causing dryness or irritation. Her products are beautifully made and chemical free and she caters for all skin types. This cleanser is amazing, I thought when I first started using it that the muslin cloth that comes with it would aggravate my skin if used regularly but it actually doesn’t. After every use, my skin feels clean and soft and hydrated! I use the combination oily range and its a godsend! I also use other elements of her skincare range and her hair and body products – I will be doing a review of my Liz Earle skincare products soon so I won’t say too much here!

  • Charlotte Tilbury Magic Cream Instant Turnaround Moisturiser

Not only does Charlotte Tilbury create some of the most amazing innovative makeup, she now does beautiful skin care. I was so happy to try this product as I have not been able to test her skincare range properly yet. It is so gorgeous! It’s a lovely rich creamy texture and it absorbs into the skin so well! You’re left with a dewy, baby skin-like surface, perfect for makeup application or just on its own. I can’t wait to try more of the range!

  • Elemis Pro-Radiance Illuminating Flash Balm

I used to only associate Elemis with spas and salons but over time I have bought the odd product and my opinion of the brand is high! Everything I have bought is beautifully packaged and the quality is second to none. This flash balm is no different, and certainly is illuminating! I have used it on its own and under makeup and in both cases, my skin has felt lovely and hydrated with a subtle glow. I don’t use it all the time because I like to mix up my routine and I also want to make it last, but it’s worth trying if Elemis is new to you.

Final Thoughts

And there we have it! I have to say, this beauty box was worth every penny! Hopefully, John Lewis will bring another one out during the course of the year. I did ask the store staff if another box was likely and they indicated there was a good possibility as this one was so popular! John Lewis as a department store is brilliant anyway and it is worth signing up for their store card regardless of this beauty box promotion. But if you ever needed an incentive this would be a good one!

Cure Natural Aqua Gel – Hit or Miss?

Hello, lovelies!

I hope you are well and enjoying the lovely sunshine this weekend! Spring is definitely coming, although I did feel the loss of an hour’s sleep this morning when the clocks went forward!

Cure natural aqua gel

So, today I wanted to write about a skin care product for a change. I love trying new skincare innovations as much as new makeup but realised I have not really blogged about any skincare I use yet! This product is a recent addition to my skincare regime and I only discovered it through skimming my YouTube feed! It’s made in Japan and I ordered it from eBay for approximately £20, although you can order from Amazon and pay a bit more. The bottle size is 250g which is a decent size and should last a while as you don’t need to use a lot per use.

The point of the Cure Natural Aqua Gel is to gently exfoliate dead skin. It is a semi-clear, reasonably runny gel and its made from all natural ingredients. This is how it looks out of the bottle:

This is the amount to use to cover your whole face.

The process to follow when  using it is this:

  1. Clean your face as normal and pat dry
  2. Pump a 1-2p coin sized amount of the gel into your palm as above
  3. Gently rub the gel all over your face apart from lips and the eye area.
  4. As you massage it into the skin it will start turning a milky white colour and you will start to see tiny grains appearing on the surface of your face – this is actually dead skin! This is what you will see (these are very close up to try to show you the effect!):

I massage the gel into my skin for no more than 5 minutes and then I rinse my face fully to wash away the dead skin. Afterwards, my skin feels extremely smooth and looks clearer, with no tightness or drying effects:

The Results

Aside from the blemishes that I already had in these photos, my skin I hope looks more radiant and ‘clean’. It’s hard to show it in photos for obvious reasons! I have used this gel twice every week for 2-3 weeks now and every time my skin looks and feels smoother and brighter. As the gel is smooth itself it does not aggravate the skin or scratch it the way some exfoliators do and its perfume and chemical free. I still use other grain-based exfoliators too but only once a week if that and generally when  I can see my skin needs a deep clean.

I have also found with this gel that my skin still feels lovely the day after using it and it helps to control breakouts, which I sometimes get around my chin area. All in all, I think this is one of the best skin care products I have ever tried and I think it will be a staple in my skincare arsenal! I can see why its a best seller in Japan!

I hope this blog was interesting and I will be posting more skincare related content in the coming weeks! If you have any questions about this product or generally, let me know in the comments box below and if there’s any product you want to recommend I’d love to hear about it!
