Makeup: Outdated Trends That Age You!

Graphic Supplied by Kara Whittaker of Ghergitch.com

When it comes to beauty and makeup, we’re all looking for the tip or trick that can help a multitude of goals. We may want to look younger. We may want to disguise spots or other marks (or even help us not look as tired as we actually feel). We may just want to dress down or dress up for an occasion.

But one thing we definitely do not want? Makeup that makes us look older. And unfortunately, too many people use makeup in a way that they don’t realize will add many years to their face. Take, for example, foundation. Cake it on or use too little, and you can do your skin a big disservice. And it’s also crucial to find the right tone, so no one is actually aware that you’re wearing foundation and so that you complement, with color, the inherent beauty of your face.

What other makeup tricks should you use? This graphic explains some:

Guest Post: Skincare – Winter to Spring!

Guest Post by Caitlin Miller

Our skin changes with the change of seasons. Therefore, we also need to change our skincare routine! We cannot maintain the same skincare methods every season. We need to follow a simple but effective routine to keep our skin perfect!

Winter is the season when days are short and nights are long. We feel cold, and our skin becomes dry and itchy. On the other hand, Spring is entirely different! Our skin will be exposed to more sunlight and environmental factors and naturally more hydrated. So, we need to change our skincare routine. For example, the moisturiser we use in the Winter months will not suit our skin in the Spring!

Here are my top tips for changing skin care while switching from Winter to Spring:

CLEANSING the skin

Cleansing helps us to remove dead skin cells, oil, and dirt from the skin. When Spring comes, using a good cleanser for your skin type will ensure you can show off your skin without having to use makeup and products to mask any blemishes, pigmentation and uneven areas. Cleansing day and night will also ensure that pores are minimised and limit breakouts!

Start exfoliating

In Winter, our skin dries out more quickly and leaves dead skin cells. So, Spring is the time to help skin recover! We all want smooth soft skin and we all know that smooth skin is the key element to helping us look beautiful. Scrubbing helps to clean our skin of old cells and clogged pores. It also helps us to increase the glow of our skin giving a more clear and radiant result! Many exfoliators also contain anti-ageing ingredients, an added bonus! However, you shouldn’t exfoliate more than twice a week as this can stress the skin.

Moisturising the skin

Moisturiser seems a simple thing to use, but it helps us in many ways. A lightweight moisturiser in the Spring will keep the skin looking hydrated and fresh and allows it to breathe without adding to any oil production. It can also be mixed with foundation to create a tinted moisturiser, avoiding the need for heavy foundation!

Apply (and re-apply) sunscreen

With the weather changes, our skin may suffer from peeling and redness as it adapts. Sunscreen can help protect us from this as well as prevent sunburn as the weather hots up! Sunscreen will also protect us from the risk of various types of skin cancer. Luckily, many face and makeup products already contain sun protection so if you haven’t already checked this it’s worth doing so and investing in a few key items if needed! An SPF factor of 50 is ideal – don’t forget to protect your lips as well!

Nature has a lovely relationship with our skin. In Winter we feel uncomfortable as our skin becomes dry. On the other hand, at the time of Spring, we can feel the extra oil in our skin. So, we need to ensure that we balance our skin needs which will result in glowing, naturally youthful skin!

GUEST POST: Date Night Ready- From Head to Toe!

Guest Post by Brigitte Evans of High Style Life – Getting ready for a big date!

In the last few days, you have done all the necessary prep activities, from visiting a beautician to intensifying your gym routine. Not to mention getting that perfect LBD with lace embellishments. Now it is time to get ready and add some final touches so as to look great and feel confident on your date night.

So let’s start.

Relaxation routine

Fill up the bathtub, add some lavender oil and just relax. You can opt for a gentle scrub and top off the experience with a nice glass of red wine and some scented candles. Now that you have taken the time to just relax and enjoy a soothing bath the next step is applying lotion and other products so as to feel fresh and to make your skin feel smooth. Opt for neutral scented lotions and cream as to avoid mixing too many fragrances since you will be also putting on a stronger perfume for the date night.

The perfect hair

Gentle flowy locks, or smooth straight hair, whichever style you choose the key is to go for that romantic feel. And if you are not feeling great about your volume you can always get some clip in hair extensions and improve the overall look of your hair. They will blend in perfectly and he won’t even notice them, all he will see is your beautiful rich hair gently touching your face over a candlelit dinner. A great hairstyle boosts our confidence and that is exactly what we need in order to have a successful, carefree date night.

Those eyes, those lips

Makeup is essential for feeling great on a date night. But be careful, going overboard when it comes to amounts is never a good option. Instead, choose tempered tones that accentuate your natural beauty. When it comes to eyes, a smokey eye is the most romantic option while a red lip is the detail that will elevate your entire look. In addition, make sure you choose the right shade of eyeshadow to compliment your eye colour, the smoky eye effect looks great even with deep green or dark maroon tones. In this case try to restrain yourself from putting on lip gloss, as it can get quite sticky and ruin a romantic kiss.

The little details

As they say, the devil is in the details, so when we said from head to toe it is exactly right. Your manicure needs to be romantic and subtle. Overstated nails are not something you want to have on a date night. So stay away from neon colours and sparkles. And the same goes for your toes, especially if you opt for open toe pumps, light neutral colours are ideal for this occasion. Your dress and make up will do the wowing, not every part of your body needs to be in the spotlight. Don’t forget a subtle necklace to accentuate the bust line and pair of soft earrings to tie the whole look together. You will be stunning.

Finally – the outfit

There is no question about it, a little black dress is everyone’s favourite date night choice. It can be paired up with a stunning pair of stilettos and a light silk scarf. In case you feel quite bold you can opt for a little red dress that is sure to be an ultimate show stopper. The main thing is to feel confident in any outfit you choose so that you can oose positive energy and strength. Don’t forget, opt for knee length, you don’t want to spend the night pulling on your dress.  It is always a great option to layer up slightly, in case there is a romantic walk at the end of the night. You wouldn’t want something like a lower temperature to spoil the romance.

There you have it, you are now ready for that perfect date night. The one thing that is bound to make it memorable is your self-esteem and positive attitude. If we feel good about ourselves we are able to create a great atmosphere, spark vivid conversation ad simply enchant the person we are with. And all this prep is just for that so that we can feel great about ourselves on that special night!

Thanks for reading this guest post – hope you enjoyed it!

My TK Maxx Finds – A Treasure Trove for Beauty Lovers!

Hello, makeup fans!

As it is already approaching March and the onset of Spring and Spring makeup changes, I thought it would be helpful to share my thoughts about a great place to find beauty products – TK Maxx! It was on a trip to Newmarket visiting one of my closest friends that I discovered how amazing the beauty section of TK Maxx actually is! Since then, I periodically visit my local TK Maxx stores to see what new beauty finds they have in stock. Often, they will carry well-known medium to high-end brands for excellent prices, so it is always worth a trip!

On this occasion, I found some lovely products that were too good to miss! Here’s what I picked up:

  • Loreal’s Colour Riche La Palette Gold
  • Max Studio’s Eye Companion
  • Nyx High Voltage Lipsticks
  • Flawless Mini Makeup Blenders
  • Isabella Scott’s Highlight & Contour Brushes
  • Revlon’s ColorStay Under Eye Concealer

The Colour Riche Palette

I had seen this palette in other stores and couldn’t decide whether I really wanted it! When I came across it in TK Maxx for less than full price, I decided it was a sign and purchased it! It’s a slim palette containing 10 eyeshadows in jewel tones which is perfect for the Winter. Each eyeshadow is smooth and reasonably creamy, and the pigmentation is pretty good! The colours apply and blend well although there is some fallout. They will last for a few hours without fading or bleeding around the eye though. Overall, it’s a decent addition to any makeup kit and you can create quite a few looks just from this one palette.

Max Studio

I had never seen or heard of Max Studio before this trip to TK Maxx but having visited other stores, it is a regularly stocked brand. I liked this palette because of the neutral colour selection and its size. The palette also came with an eye look inspiration leaflet which is always a useful addition to any palette! The eyeshadows are actually very good quality and buttery! The colour pay off is also good, as can be seen from the swatches. There is very little kickback when using them and it’s the ideal palette for creating simple daytime looks or a subtle smoky eye. I will definitely try other products by Max Studio now I have tested this one!

Nyx’s High Voltage Lipsticks

These lipsticks were a fab find! There were a number of colours to pick from in store, but I chose these 4 as they were super pigmented and perfect for all occasions! Nyx is a well-known, affordable and popular brand which can be found in many places now, but TK Maxx had reduced the price of these lipsticks even further! The texture of each one is so soft and creamy, like a lip balm, but the colour is opaque once applied. Your lips stay soft and hydrated throughout wearing and reapplication is only needed after eating. All in all, they are lovely and due to their smaller size, they are great lipsticks on the go!

Mini Makeup Blenders

I love mini blenders like these! They are perfect for applying correctors, concealers and powders on the smaller, harder to reach areas of the face! My main use for them is under the eyes and on my T-Zone. I was thrilled to get 4 of them in this pack and whilst they aren’t the traditional Beauty Blender mini sponges they are just as good. The texture is reasonably soft, so they can be manipulated to apply in tricky spaces. As they are so small they are also easy to clean and take very little time to dry! I have a ton of these mini blenders now and highly recommend trying them if you never have.

Isabella Scott Makeup Brushes

These brushes came together in a set. I had never heard of Isabella Scott brushes before buying these and have not seen any others by her since, but I loved the shape of these brushes, so I bought them.

The Highlighter Brush

The first one is the highlighter brush. It has a C curved brush head which is designed to fit over the tops of the cheekbones. The second brush is the contour brush which has a wave shape to fit the bottom of the cheekbones and the hollows of the cheeks. Out of the 2, the contour brush works best. The bristles on both are quite soft but retain their shape, however trying to ensure there is product on the entire highlighter brush is tricky because of the C shape! It does fit the upper cheekbones nicely though.

The Contour Brush

The contour brush is much easier to use and when you dip the brush into a powder contour the powder will distribute across the entire brush head. When you apply the contour, the shape of the brush head fits the face’s shape well and all you need to do after the application is ensure there are no harsh edges. That being said, I would not use the entire brush head if using a cream contour as the result would be too heavy and difficult to blend out.

Generally, I like these brushes and they are sturdy and well made. However, if I could choose which one to buy rather than the set, I would only buy the contour brush!

Revlon’s Under Eye Concealer

I love a good concealer! Revlon makes great makeup, so I trusted that this concealer would be good quality and I was right! It comes in pen form, which I especially like from a portability perspective, and is a thick creamy consistency. You twist the bottom to distribute product to the sponge applicator head and you don’t need a lot to cover both eyes. It blends really well and also brightens the area slightly, always a bonus! I have used it alone and with other concealers and in both cases, it provides decent coverage and does not crease easily after application. This is a great item to keep in your handbag for quick makeup application and touch-ups!

Final Thoughts

TK Maxx did me proud on this occasion! I love everything I bought and paid a lot less than I would have in normal high street stores! If you have never thought of buying beauty products from TK Maxx before, you really should have a look! They also carry amazing skin, body and hair care ranges from well-known brands so why not pop to your local brand and treat yourself?

If you enjoyed this post, I’d love it if you left your comments and shared it! If you don’t follow or subscribe please do!

Another Post, Another Haul! My Nyx Mix Review!

Hi, there beauty fans!

How is 2018 going for you so far? If you read my new year post you will know that my year started in a very unexpected way! But, it’s also been a great time to reflect and enjoy the Spring lead up!  Naturally, I am also loving the new makeup releases of which there have been many so far! The best thing about the changing seasons is the ability to mix up your makeup routine!

That being said, this post is about some products I bought late last year! If you read my posts, you know I am terrible for splurging on beauty and makeup hauls and this one is no different! In this haul, I focused on Nyx Professional Makeup items but also threw a few other greats in which are worth sharing with you!

So, what was in this makeup haul?

This haul was a mixed bag of different products, all good in their own right! Here’s what I bought:

  • The Nyx Sweet Cheeks Blush Palette
  • A Nyx Love Contours All Palette
  • Maybelline’s Master Blush Colour and Highlighting Palette
  • 2 Nyx Vivid Brights Liquid Eyeliners in Vivid Delight (Orange) and Vivid Blossom (Lilac)
  • Charlotte Tilbury’s Lipstick in Pillow Talk
  • Kat Von D’s Liquid Lipstick in Lolita II
  • The Nyx Control Freak Eyebrow Gel
  • The Maybelline Brow Precise Fiber Filler Brow Mascara
  • The Maybelline Eyebrow Pencil
  • Charlotte Tilbury’s Brow Lift
  • Maybelline’s Colossal Volume Express Mascara

Were they all worth it?

The Nyx Blusher Palette

As soon as I saw the colours in this palette, I knew I wanted it! There is such a lovely mix of colours and textures, suitable for everyone! The blushers are mainly matte but there are a couple of shimmery ones which could also be used as highlighters. The colour payoff is brilliant, as can be seen from the swatches and they can be built up or toned down depending on the look you want. Each blusher is reasonably soft and buttery in texture making them easy to blend into the skin and once applied none of them fades or move around the skin. I love this palette and it’s ideal for use all year round!

The Nyx Contour Palette

Prior to buying this palette, I was not a massive contour fan. It has taken me a while to warm to the contouring trend! However, it is something I do more often now, and this palette is perfect for it! In the palette, there are not only contouring and highlighting shades but also 12  eyeshadows in various neutral tones for eye contouring and defining and eyebrow powders! There is something for every contour fanatic in this selection and, as with the blushers, everything is pigmented and smooth in texture. The colours should work on most skin tones and apply beautifully with excellent longevity. This palette is a must for the neutrals and contour lovers out there!

Maybelline’s Blusher Palette

You’d think I would be content with the Nyx Blusher palette but when I saw this one from Maybelline, I fell in love with it! The selection of pink tones is gorgeous and there is also a highlighter included which compliments the other 3 colours. You can see from the swatches that the colours are vivid and a little goes a long way when applying them! All these shades will suit varying skin tones, last for hours without budging and have a lovely creamy texture.

The Nyx Liquid Eyeliners & Charlotte Tilbury’s Pillow Talk Lipstick

If you follow me and my various blog posts, you will know that I love eye makeup and creating new and different eye looks. Having an assortment of coloured eyeliners in different textures is a big part of that! Nyx has created a full range of colourful eyeliners and I already had a few of them before buying these 2 colours.

Both the orange and the lilac shades are pigmented and just as easy to use as the other liners I already had, see the swatches below. The only downside to these eyeliners is that they can crack slightly after a few hours application and if you have layers of eyeshadow on the eyelid you will need to apply a couple of layers of the eyeliner to make the colour stand out opaque against the eyeshadows. However, those minor issues have not stopped me using the liners regularly and once applied they do last for a while without crumbling or flaking. If you love colourful makeup, you should definitely test these out!

As for Charlotte Tilbury’s lipstick in Pillow Talk, you only need to read my Brand Focus post on her products to know I am a huge fan! This lipstick shade is the perfect Blushed Nude, designed to suit most skin tones and it also has a matching lip liner. Like her other lipsticks, this one is soft and creamy and applies opaque without drying out the lips. It is a matte shade and will last hours without any need to touch up. It also looks beautiful with a lip topper or gloss! Check out the swatch below.

Kat Von D’s Liquid Lipstick

Kat Von D is one of my new favourite brands! Her makeup ranges are amazing, and I am steadily building a mixture of her products! This liquid lipstick is a lovely autumn colour, not quite red, brown or pink – see the swatch! It glides onto the lips well and dries matte without drying the lips. It can be worn alone or under a lip gloss or topper and will last hours without fading, cracking or smudging! I have a couple of her liquid lipsticks now but love this one for an everyday natural look!

The Eyebrow Items

I am a big fan of sharp, defined yet natural-looking eyebrows so having good quality eyebrow products is a must. I bought all of these items to test out and each one has a positive quality! The Maybelline eyebrow gel in dark brown and pencil are both great for subtly defining and taming the eyebrows, but the pencil does run out pretty quickly so is not very cost effective and the gel needs to be applied carefully to avoid excessive product build up! That being said, once you master them they will allow you to create a defined natural brow.

The Nyx Control Freak Eyebrow gel is a clear gel which is designed to comb through the eyebrows and set the hairs in place. In all honesty, this gel was no better than any other setting gel I have tried and on some days, it controlled my eyebrows well and on others, not so much! However, as it is a clear gel it is marginally easier to apply than the Maybelline version and there is no need to worry about over darkening the eyebrows!

My favourite eyebrow product was the Charlotte Tilbury Eyebrow Shaper. This waxy pencil comes with a spoolie at one end and an under-brow highlighter tucked into the middle of the pen shaft! It has a tapered tip which allows for precise lining and applies softly to ensure a natural look whilst also adding colour to any sparse areas. The highlighter is a soft, slightly shimmery pale pink-cream colour which is applied through a small sponge under the arch of the brow. The end result once you have brushed through the brows with the spoolie is a perfectly shaped brow!

MAYBELLINE’S COLOSSAL VOLUME EXPRESS MASCARA

Finally, I bought the Maybelline Colossal Volume Express mascara. I tend not to buy mascaras much now as I love wearing false eyelashes but every now and then I like to just use my own lashes for a more subtle and natural look. When I am in that mood, I need a good mascara to make the most of my own lashes and this mascara is excellent! It has a full, dense brush head which coats all the lashes well without clogging and also separates, lengthens and volumizes! My own lashes look full and fluttery after using this mascara and there is no fallout or crumbling after hours of wear. It also removes easily with a makeup remover wipe or similar product!

Final Thoughts?

All in all, I love everything I bought in this haul! There are some standout items which I will definitely replenish in the future such as the Charlotte Tilbury Eye Shaper and the palettes, but I would positively rate most of the products and suggest you try some of them to see what you like for yourself. All the brands produce good quality makeup so if you have not dabbled with them yet, you really should!

I hope you enjoyed reading this post! Let me know your favourite Nyx products in the comments! Stay tuned for future posts and don’t forget to like, share and follow!

Hello 2018 – New Year, New Start & My Blog Anniversary!

Hi there, my fab followers!

Happy New Year! Can you believe its already the end of January 2018? I’m sorry for the radio silence until now. The start of 2018 has been somewhat eventful and challenging for me – keep reading to find out why!

So, 2017 was a great year in so many ways! I started this beauty blog, I managed to grow all my social media channels and I started actively working part-time as a makeup and hair artist! And I did all this whilst still working as a full-time solicitor! It was a tough year at times but overall, I feel I achieved a lot. I also made some great new blogging contacts and attended several fun beauty events!

The end of the year, however, was pretty stressful at work and I was very much looking forward to spending time at home with family over Christmas. I started suffering from severe eczema in the last part of 2017 due to stress and this lasted through to the start of 2018 when I finally managed to get it under control. Luckily, it has not resurfaced and I’m hoping it won’t!

If you have kept up with my blog, you will know that 2017 saw me writing for not only my blog but for a number of other forums too! I was so grateful to be approached by these sites to write beauty posts as it gave me additional avenues for promotion and helped me to improve my writing. The forums I wrote for were Greenide, Millennials365, Americanoize and ReallyRee. I also started writing for a new forum called Beauty Blog Collective at the end of the year. If you did not get to read all my posts you can find links to some of them below:

Greenide – Style

ReallyRee – Dipsjn

Americanoize – Beauty

Beauty Blog Collective

Unfortunately, Millennials365 changed to a new forum and their link is not operational right now but I will be reposting my blog post links through social media so keep an eye out for them!

The start of 2018 was pretty quiet and I decided to take a break from writing for other forums so I could focus my attention on my blog. I had so many post ideas to write about for All Things Beauty but never the time to write them! I will be working my way through these in the coming months.

In mid-January, I hit my 1 year anniversary for creating this blog! It seems like only yesterday I wrote my first ever post and now it’s a year on and I have written so many posts across different sites. It’s been a year of learning and growing in the blogging industry and I am very appreciative of the support all my lovely followers have given me! I hope you have enjoyed reading my content and will continue to do so! I plan to spend even more time working on my site and providing more benefit to all of you over this year!

Unfortunately, the middle of January also saw me being made redundant from my full-time legal role. This was completely unexpected and pretty scary! I am now having to find a new position as quickly as possible so I can keep up my financial commitments. Not a fun task to undertake at the start of a new year! It has also meant that much of my time has had to be spent scouring job sites instead of writing!

Despite the fact that 2018 has not started quite how I would have liked, as with all curve balls in life it has made me look for the positives.

Luckily, I have lost my job at a time when the job market is pretty active so I am hopeful of securing a new position in the not too distant future. I am also fortunate to have an amazing family and friends that will support me through this rocky period! Having time at home is also a blessing as I can spend time with my 3 beautiful cats, avoid the cold weather and focus my energy on my wellbeing and health (when I am not looking for work!). Lastly, it has allowed me to think about my blog and the direction I want to take with it. And I can finally catch up on reading articles and useful information I have saved for later! So, as much as I was pretty panicked about losing my job, and still am at times, I am trusting that it will be a blessing in disguise and everything will work out. When life hands you lemons, you make lemonade!

Thanks for reading this post, which is not my usual kind but an introduction to the whirlwind start of 2018! I hope to write new posts more often than last year. Naturally, be spending time looking for my next job too so please bear with me! Hopefully, in one of my next posts, I’ll be celebrating a new job!

If you liked this post, don’t forget to like, comment and share. I’d love to hear how your year has started!

Meet Doe Deere! The Beauty Entrepreneur’s Morning Routine

SPONSORED GUEST POST: Kelly Hammond of Perennial Relations

My introduction to this post

Hi, there lovely followers!

I am thrilled to be hosting this guest post! Kelly Hammond works with Doe Deere and I was specifically approached for this opportunity, which I am extremely flattered by and grateful for. Lime Crime is one of my favourite cult brands and it is amazing that Doe Deere even came across my blog let alone requesting to use it as a platform for a sponsored post! I hope you enjoy reading it!

Who is Doe Deere?

Doe Deere is one of the most well-known beauty entrepreneurs. She is the founder, CEO and owner of Lime Crime Makeup, one of the most popular makeup brands available now. Lime Crime is known for its Unicorn mascot which in Doe’s words represents individuality, rare beauty and compassionate kindness to all animals.

Doe Deere is a rebel at heart and a self-proclaimed Unicorn Queen! Her unique vision and love for colour in all her ranges has attracted millions of beauty fans and continues to do so. Her personal values, which include promoting and creating cruelty-free and vegan products, permeate through everything she produces.

The birth of Lime Crime

Lime Crime Makeup came into being two weeks before Halloween in 2008. Doe wanted to find cosmetics that matched her colourful, eccentric wardrobe, so she decided to create one! In 2009, Lime Crime introduced Unicorn Lipsticks, a radical range of lip colours with a sparkling unicorn on the packaging. The Velvetines range followed in 2012, putting the liquid lipstick craze on the map! And how can we forget her unique and dazzling Diamond Crusher Lip Toppers which have paved the way for a whole trend of similar products from other brands!

Doe oversees all product development with her Unicorns in mind, and she considers her followers to be the biggest source of inspiration! She is a highly regarded influencer in the beauty community for refusing to quit her daydream. Doe encourages other aspiring entrepreneurs to do the same!

What’s Doe Deere’s morning routine?

Just like most successful people, Doe Deere considers her mornings to be one of the most important parts of her day. But the beauty mogul isn’t only about her makeup and looks, and meticulously plans every minute, down to the very last detail. Here is a look at how Doe Deere spends her mornings.

Doe Deere usually wakes up at eight thirty in the morning. She always makes sure that she goes to bed early the previous night and gets at least eight to nine hours of sleep. Doe stands by the age-old tip that a good night’s sleep can give you better-looking skin, which is why she tries always to stay true to this! Doe says that she usually doesn’t need to keep alarms since her body clock naturally wakes her up at the right time every morning. She can usually just decide a time that she wants to start out her day at and wakes up in accordance to that!

Doe starts out her day by drinking a glass of water. Drinking a glass of water first thing in the morning is great for your overall health and skin, which is why she always does that. Through the day, she tries to drink plenty of water and stay hydrated.

To then get her body ready for the day, Doe indulges in a few light exercises. Stretches and a little bit of light yoga are Doe’s preferred choice of exercise. She openly stated that she isn’t a very athletic person, but still tries her best to stay fit and healthy, and not slack off!

The next thing that Doe Deere does is prepare her breakfast. She is an incredibly professional vegan cook and can whip up any meal that she wants. Normally, for breakfast, Doe likes to eat grits or even yoghurt with fruits and nuts. Along with her breakfast, she likes to have a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice that she gets from the trees that grow in her backyard! She tries to keep her breakfast as healthy and fresh as possible.

Doe also considers her mornings as an important time to sit and plan her day. While having her breakfast, she tries to plan the day ahead and thinks of what she needs to do. She also uses the calendar app on her phone to make a note of all the tasks that she needs to complete. During her mornings, she also coordinates with the people working at Lime Crime and sends and receives emails about the company.

Even though it may seem like her mornings are tightly scheduled, Doe Deere tries her best to stay as technology free as possible to indeed make the most out of that little time that she gets to herself, when she isn’t the boss to the employees at Lime Crime! She sometimes likes to think of the direction that the company should take in the future, and also the new products that she wants to introduce to her customers through Lime Crime at this time in her day.

The last thing that Doe Deere does before she sets off for work is her makeup! She considers this to be her most favourite part of the day and it is what inspired her to start up her company in the first place. She plans her looks according to her outfits and tries to vary it every day! Before she puts on her makeup, she tries to cleanse her face as thoroughly as possible. She uses good quality products, which is another secret to her flawless skin. She loves to listen to music whilst she makes herself up and always makes sure to spend time with her two Persian cats!

The rest of Doe’s day is spent in the office with her team, in and out of meetings and socialising. If her creative juices are flowing she will easily work until midnight!

They can be used on the face and body and can be applied as they are or with a mixing medium to create a more liquid metal/foiled result! They are the perfect Christmas addition to any makeup kit!

The Inglot liquid eyeliner is equally gorgeous! Its quite a loose liquid in a rose gold colour with a slight sparkle. It’s reasonably easy to apply using the applicator wand but can also be used with an eyeliner brush for a different effect. Once it has dried, it has a lovely shine and catches the light beautifully. See the swatch below to see what I mean!

The Thalia Glitters

These eye glitters are beautiful! It is difficult to capture in the photos but the iridescent sparkle is amazing – they catch the light so well! The glitter is slightly coarse to the touch but the texture is still fine and applies well with a glitter glue. Once applied, it doesn’t move and can be built up or left sheer – check out the swatches below.

Lit Cosmetics Glitters

I always wanted to try Lit Cosmetics so when I saw these at the Beauty UK Show I knew I had to buy them! These glitters are almost like a pigment, they are smooth and almost buttery to the touch but the glitter is no less impressive. They can be applied with and without glue and can also be mixed with a mixing medium for an even more intense result! For swatches, see below.

Naked Cosmetics Pigments

These pigments are so pretty! There were so many colours to pick from at the IMATS show but I loved these shades of mermaid blues and greens! The pigments can be used dry or with water for a deeper colour payoff and you can see from the photos that the texture is very fine and almost silky to the touch. They also provide a very subtle silver sparkle on application which just adds to the final result!

The Obsessive Compulsive Glitter

This glitter is the most coarse of all the glitters I purchased but just as gorgeous. It applies with a glitter glue and results in a multi-tonal bronze effect! It can be built up to full coverage or applied sparingly to create a more subtle light-catching look. Its a perfect choice for Christmas!

The Danessa Myricks Items

Before the IMATS show, I have never seen or heard of Danessa Myricks but I am very glad I have now! Her makeup is designed to be used for professional photography so it is exceptionally good quality and I decided to test one of the pigments and one of the highlighting powders. The pigment is silky smooth and glides onto the skin like a liquid metal! A mixing medium can be used to create just that! The colour is intense and doesn’t diminish even after hours of wear. Look at the swatch below!

The highlighter powder is one of many stunning powders! Its very fine and light, almost fluffy! It’s also very pigmented and delivers a high dose of shine! It can be used on the face and the body and can even be mixed with body lotion or foundation to give an all over glow! I absolutely love this powder and recommend trying her range as soon as you can!

Lime Crime’s Diamond Crusher

Lime Crime Diamond Crushers are amazing lip toppers – check out my post on lip toppers here! I have a number of them now and I picked this one due to the lovely pink gold colour. It can be worn alone and over other lip products and will dry down after application. The end result is a pretty iridescent layer which doesn’t dry out the lips and stays in place for hours!

The Beauty Bakerie Lip Whip

I had been curious about Beauty Bakerie makeup for a little while before this so when I eventually found it at IMATS I made sure I had a proper look! I decided to buy one of the lip whips as I had heard lots of good things about them! But, I have to be honest, after testing it a few times I found it to be one of my least favourite products. The liquid lipstick applies well and the colour is lovely but once it set, it dried my lips out very quickly and actually did not last that long. I am keen to try other Beauty Bakerie items but won’t bother buying other lip whips!

LA Splash Liquid Lipstick

This was another brand I had heard a lot about but never tried! There was a great selection of lipsticks at the Beauty UK Show and I decided to buy this particular one because the colour is so unusual! Its a deep olive green with a gold glint and I was instantly drawn to it! On application, it’s fully opaque and dries semi-matte but it does not dry out the lips. It has good staying power and is definitely a head turner!

The AJ Crimson Liquid Lipstick

This is a brand I have not seen anywhere since the IMATS show and had never heard of it before then. There were a number of different coloured liquid lipsticks and I picked this one because I have a love of burnt orange anything! The texture is light and smooth but very pigmented. After application, it sets in place and the finish is semi-metallic and opaque. It does dry the lips out very slightly after a while but this is a minor negative compared to the end result!

Check out the swatches:

The Provoc Liners

These eye and lip liners are excellent! They come in a vast array of colours and can be interchanged so a lip liner can be an eyeliner and vice versa! I tested a whole host of shades but selected these to complete my already massive collection! They are very soft in texture and can be used all over the eyelid and lips as well as for liners. Once applied, they dry down within seconds and then they don’t smudge, bleed or fade. They can even be used as a base to glitter as long as the glitter is applied quickly! Check out the swatches:

The Louise Young Blusher & The Makeup Atelier Concealer

Louise Young is a great but relatively unknown brand. I have a number of her makeup brushes which are excellent and the blusher was the first makeup product I tried! It’s a lovely pink colour and very pigmented but on application, it provides a natural ‘rosy cheeks’ effect! Its a good shade for all skin tones.

The concealer by Makeup Atelier was a product I wanted to try for ages due to a YouTube endorsement by Wayne Goss! He considers it to be one of the best concealers on the market and now I have one I have to agree. The brand does not carry made shades as yet but I managed to find one that matched my skin tone. The texture is quite creamy and lightweight but the coverage is very good and blends like a dream! After application, it sets well and there is very little creasing. If you’re looking for an alternative concealer to the likes of Tarte Shape Tape and Nars Creamy Concealer, this is worth a look!

The Lashes & The Brushes

I love false eyelashes and I love good makeup brushes! Prior to these shows, I had not tried Velour Lashes or Lashes Unlimited but now I am hooked, especially with Velour. Their lashes are not cheap by any means but they are so fluffy, come in a variety of styles and apply easily! I can’t wait to buy more when I have some spare money! At the other end of the cost spectrum, Lashes Unlimited creates good quality designs for an affordable price. They are easy to apply, look lovely and provide a great alternative to the pricier lash companies without losing the results!

As for the makeup brushes, these are some of my most used brushes now! You can see I bought a variety of different types all for different purposes, from fine liners to blenders of varying size and those designed for the crease and outer corner. The brands are all synonymous with excellent quality and results, particularly the Hakuhodo brushes which are beautifully crafted and feel gorgeous on the skin! I have used them all repeatedly and they always provide amazing results, don’t shed any bristles even after cleaning and are easy to use.

Final Thoughts

And that’s my vast makeup haul from both shows! This post is much longer than other posts but I had to make sure I covered everything properly! Everything I bought bar the odd item was worth the money and lived up to or exceeded my expectations! I cannot wait for next year’s shows to see what other great brands and products I will discover – IMATS 2018 tickets are now on sale if you want to attend – I know I will be!

I hope you enjoyed reading my review and I’d love to know what you thought of some of the items and whether I have tempted you to try anything! Feel free to comment, like and share and of course subscribe if you don’t already!

IMATS 2017 – The Greatest Makeup Extravaganza of the Year!

Hello lovely followers,

I hope you are all having a great week so far!

This post has been a very long time coming! I attended IMATS back in May this year and it has been on my draft list for ages! I first attended IMATS with a friend a few years ago, long before I became a makeup artist and beauty blogger, and even then I was hooked!

So what is IMATS?

IMATS stands for International Makeup Artist Trade Show! It is the world’s largest celebration of makeup artistry and creativity. Every year, thousands of make-up artists, exhibitors, and enthusiasts attend the how to discuss, display and collect the best the makeup industry has to offer. Professionals from the fashion and film sectors also attend to provide education and demonstrations at IMATS, and new products often debut there. IMATS also features a make-up museum and the Battle of the Brushes student makeup competitions, where international makeup students race to create winning looks! It’s basically a makeup lovers paradise!

Before IMATS, there were no trade shows specifically designed for make-up artists so to address this, Emmy Award-winning make-up artist and Make-Up Artist magazine publisher Michael Key held the first IMATS in August 1997 in Los Angeles. IMATS then expanded to Europe in 2002, with the debut of IMATS London and now you can attend it in many different places around the globe – the show is held six times annually in Los Angeles; New York; London; Vancouver, B.C.; Sydney; and Toronto.

IMATS 2017

This year’s IMATS was, as expected, amazing! I booked my ticket to go months in advance for £45 and by the time the day finally arrived I was so excited I could barely sit still! It was at this year’s event that I actually found out you can sign up for a Pro card which provides lots of additional benefits depending on which level of card you qualify for. I will definitely be applying for the card for next year’s show – you can find out more here.

This year, I attended the event alone and despite arriving pretty early I still had to queue to get in. However, the buzz in the queue was great and everyone was super excited! Once I arrived at the entrance, this is what I walked into:

The atmosphere was crazy! Everywhere you looked there were people shopping, trying makeup, displaying artistic work – it was overwhelming! The first thing I decided to do was find my bearings, as there were loads of makeup brand stands I wanted to visit. Looking back and through the many photographs I took, which are all shared in this post, I am sure there were some I missed!

The Brands

Where do I start? There were some familiar loved makeup brands and then a whole host of brands I had never heard of or tried before. I was literally in heaven! I’ll start with the brands we all know and love:

  • Nars
  • Kat Von D
  • MAC
  • Inglot
  • Urban Decay
  • Beauty Bakerie
  • Lime Crime
  • Nyx
  • Makeup Forever
  • Bobbi Brown

As you can imagine all these stands were busy all day long! A few of them I could not even get close enough to look at the displays!

You can see all the brands had good sized displays and there were some lovely products to buy! Most of the items were available in their normal stores although some of the brands did have offers purely for the show. Watch out for my next post with details of all the makeup I spoilt myself with!

The lesser known brands and those that I had never heard of or bought anything from were:

  • Kryolan
  • Velour
  • Treasure House of Makeup
  • Royal Langnickel
  • Graftobian
  • Makeup Atelier
  • Sugarpill
  • Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics
  • The Makeup Outlet
  • Guru Makeup Emporium
  • Bdellium Tools
  • Louise Young
  • Naked Cosmetics
  • Provoc
  • Thalia
  • Lash Unlimited
  • Ben Nye
  • Hakuhodo
  • Mehron
  • Screenface

Exploring these brands was the most fun for me! They sold general makeup and accessories to heavy duty theatrical face and body cosmetics! I got to test makeup by brands I had always wanted to try like Makeup Atelier and Ben Nye and play with lashes by Velour! One of my favourite discoveries was Guru Makeup Emporium which stocked Danessa Myricks photographic makeup – her makeup is exceptional! But my highlight had to be visiting the HakuHodo stand! This brand produces some of the finest makeup brushes in the world! There were so many to pick from, I was like a child in a candy shop! You could tell just from the feel of them that they were going to deliver excellent results and the available ranges covered every type of brush possible.

Was it worth attending IMATS 2017?

Without a doubt yes! If you love makeup and meeting other people that love makeup, this is the event you have to attend each year. You’ll see what treasures I picked up in my next post, but even without spending, it is such a fun and vibrant day out, filled with colour and variety and just by talking to the brand staff you can learn so much. I am already planning for 2018 IMATS – tickets will go on sale 6 months before the day, which will be in May again. For full information check out the IMATS website here. Who’s going to join me? Let me know in the comments and don’t forget to follow and subscribe!

Watch out for my next makeup reveal post on my gorgeous IMATS purchases!
