Makeup: Outdated Trends That Age You!

Graphic Supplied by Kara Whittaker of Ghergitch.com

When it comes to beauty and makeup, we’re all looking for the tip or trick that can help a multitude of goals. We may want to look younger. We may want to disguise spots or other marks (or even help us not look as tired as we actually feel). We may just want to dress down or dress up for an occasion.

But one thing we definitely do not want? Makeup that makes us look older. And unfortunately, too many people use makeup in a way that they don’t realize will add many years to their face. Take, for example, foundation. Cake it on or use too little, and you can do your skin a big disservice. And it’s also crucial to find the right tone, so no one is actually aware that you’re wearing foundation and so that you complement, with color, the inherent beauty of your face.

What other makeup tricks should you use? This graphic explains some:

Spring 2018 – An Update on my Beauty Blogger Journey!

Hello lovely followers! I hope you are all well and enjoying the onset of Spring, new beauty trends and better weather!

Can you believe it is already Spring 2018 and I have not posted since February! I cannot apologise enough for my absence, but if you read my earlier post in January 2018, you’ll know this year has been a little crazy! This post is focused on updating you all on what’s happened in the last few weeks!

So, in January I unexpectedly lost my legal job. Naturally, finding a new one became my top priority. As luck would have it, this scary turn of events led me down the path of self-employment! I have been a lawyer for many years and I have always worked for a law firm – it never really occurred to me to work as a self-employed consultant. However, once I was thrown back into the job seeking world, I noticed that there were more and more opportunities to work this way. In addition, many of the law firms I applied to for regular employed work were not responding quickly or at all whereas I was being approached by a few businesses about self-employed work. I took that to be a sign that maybe it was time for a change!

I now work as a consultant solicitor from home (which is heaven!) and can work as many or as few hours and days as I want. My work comes from an innovative law firm in London and I can control how much work I take on. Right now I am taking on a sizeable amount for financial reasons but the hope is that in another few months I can take a more relaxed approach, leaving me time to do other things such as makeup work and blogging! I am also taking on contracts from other companies so I will have a few income streams! All in all, its been a whirlwind and there’s still a lot I need to put in place but its been so freeing to work in a way that suits me!

Whilst setting up my self-employed consultancy, I still managed to find time to take on other ventures. One of them was to create my own app for my blog! I was approached by a company called App Spot who explained the ease with which I could design my own app for a reasonably inexpensive cost so I thought, why not? It is a great way to get in front of more people and hopefully will attract more followers!

The company representative I dealt with was excellent and he guided me through each stage of the process via email until my app was finally ready to go live! He even dealt with some stages for me to speed the process up! It is now available for free on the Android market under the name All Things Beauty and will allow people to keep up to date with my posts on the go! If you enjoy reading my blog, why not go and take a look at my app? I can also put anyone who is interested in creating their own blog app in touch with App Spot – just leave me a request in the comments below!

If that wasn’t enough, I also decided that 2018 would be the year I started a makeup YouTube channel! It has been something I have contemplated for a while but I could never find the time to research it or to film anything! However, I have finally set my channel up now and I have filmed a tutorial which I am finalising before uploading it! When it is live I will of course post on social media and on my blog so watch this space! It’s unlikely I will be able to upload videos regularly to start with simply because of my new job but my eventual aim is to upload once or twice every week. I hope those of you that love my makeup looks will subscribe to my channel!

In February, I also managed to attend the Professional Beauty Show in London. I attended this event last year and posted my review in March 2017 – check it out here. I had high hopes that it would be even better this year than last year but sadly it was nowhere near as good. This year had a much bigger emphasis on equipment for salons and beauticians with far fewer makeup brands present. Suffice to say I did not buy anything! That being said, I will still attend next year as it a free event and hopefully, next year will have a makeup focus again!

So, that covers what I have been doing since my last update! Now, I am focusing on Spring trends and releases so I can start writing more posts for all of you in the coming weeks! Now that I am working again, I can finally allow myself to buy new makeup and there have already been some gorgeous releases which I have managed to get my hands on! I won’t give too much away now but if you keep an eye on my social media you will see some of my purchases and the looks I create with them!

I have also started receiving far more interest from brands seeking to collaborate with me to test new products! And it isn’t just makeup – I have been gifted with jewellery, bags, and skincare, all of which I have been posting about on Instagram! Watch out for future blog posts about some of the items I have received too!

Finally, if you’re keeping up to date with the beauty industry calendar, you will know May is host to two big events – IMATS London and the Beauty UK Show! IMATS is probably the biggest beauty event of the year and is always worth a visit. Tickets are around £50 and I attended last year and had a great day – check out my review here.

The Beauty UK Show is in Birmingham and is a free event for people in the beauty trades! It is well worth a visit and I attended this show last year too, my review is here. Both IMATS and Beauty UK are happening on the same weekend in May, 20th and 21st, and I am planning to go to both again this year. If you have never been to either event why not book on? Let me know in the comments if you plan to go – we could arrange to meet up!

And that’s my update for now! 2018 is proving to be a challenging but ultimately positive year so far and I am hoping things will continue to go well! Keep an eye on my social media for more news from me and for confirmation when my YouTube video is available to watch! And check out my app if you get a chance – I’m hoping you all like the finished product!

If you enjoyed reading this post don’t forget to like, share and comment – I still love to hear from all of you! If you’re new to my blog, I hope you’ll become one of my regular followers!

See you soon,

My TK Maxx Finds – A Treasure Trove for Beauty Lovers!

Hello, makeup fans!

As it is already approaching March and the onset of Spring and Spring makeup changes, I thought it would be helpful to share my thoughts about a great place to find beauty products – TK Maxx! It was on a trip to Newmarket visiting one of my closest friends that I discovered how amazing the beauty section of TK Maxx actually is! Since then, I periodically visit my local TK Maxx stores to see what new beauty finds they have in stock. Often, they will carry well-known medium to high-end brands for excellent prices, so it is always worth a trip!

On this occasion, I found some lovely products that were too good to miss! Here’s what I picked up:

  • Loreal’s Colour Riche La Palette Gold
  • Max Studio’s Eye Companion
  • Nyx High Voltage Lipsticks
  • Flawless Mini Makeup Blenders
  • Isabella Scott’s Highlight & Contour Brushes
  • Revlon’s ColorStay Under Eye Concealer

The Colour Riche Palette

I had seen this palette in other stores and couldn’t decide whether I really wanted it! When I came across it in TK Maxx for less than full price, I decided it was a sign and purchased it! It’s a slim palette containing 10 eyeshadows in jewel tones which is perfect for the Winter. Each eyeshadow is smooth and reasonably creamy, and the pigmentation is pretty good! The colours apply and blend well although there is some fallout. They will last for a few hours without fading or bleeding around the eye though. Overall, it’s a decent addition to any makeup kit and you can create quite a few looks just from this one palette.

Max Studio

I had never seen or heard of Max Studio before this trip to TK Maxx but having visited other stores, it is a regularly stocked brand. I liked this palette because of the neutral colour selection and its size. The palette also came with an eye look inspiration leaflet which is always a useful addition to any palette! The eyeshadows are actually very good quality and buttery! The colour pay off is also good, as can be seen from the swatches. There is very little kickback when using them and it’s the ideal palette for creating simple daytime looks or a subtle smoky eye. I will definitely try other products by Max Studio now I have tested this one!

Nyx’s High Voltage Lipsticks

These lipsticks were a fab find! There were a number of colours to pick from in store, but I chose these 4 as they were super pigmented and perfect for all occasions! Nyx is a well-known, affordable and popular brand which can be found in many places now, but TK Maxx had reduced the price of these lipsticks even further! The texture of each one is so soft and creamy, like a lip balm, but the colour is opaque once applied. Your lips stay soft and hydrated throughout wearing and reapplication is only needed after eating. All in all, they are lovely and due to their smaller size, they are great lipsticks on the go!

Mini Makeup Blenders

I love mini blenders like these! They are perfect for applying correctors, concealers and powders on the smaller, harder to reach areas of the face! My main use for them is under the eyes and on my T-Zone. I was thrilled to get 4 of them in this pack and whilst they aren’t the traditional Beauty Blender mini sponges they are just as good. The texture is reasonably soft, so they can be manipulated to apply in tricky spaces. As they are so small they are also easy to clean and take very little time to dry! I have a ton of these mini blenders now and highly recommend trying them if you never have.

Isabella Scott Makeup Brushes

These brushes came together in a set. I had never heard of Isabella Scott brushes before buying these and have not seen any others by her since, but I loved the shape of these brushes, so I bought them.

The Highlighter Brush

The first one is the highlighter brush. It has a C curved brush head which is designed to fit over the tops of the cheekbones. The second brush is the contour brush which has a wave shape to fit the bottom of the cheekbones and the hollows of the cheeks. Out of the 2, the contour brush works best. The bristles on both are quite soft but retain their shape, however trying to ensure there is product on the entire highlighter brush is tricky because of the C shape! It does fit the upper cheekbones nicely though.

The Contour Brush

The contour brush is much easier to use and when you dip the brush into a powder contour the powder will distribute across the entire brush head. When you apply the contour, the shape of the brush head fits the face’s shape well and all you need to do after the application is ensure there are no harsh edges. That being said, I would not use the entire brush head if using a cream contour as the result would be too heavy and difficult to blend out.

Generally, I like these brushes and they are sturdy and well made. However, if I could choose which one to buy rather than the set, I would only buy the contour brush!

Revlon’s Under Eye Concealer

I love a good concealer! Revlon makes great makeup, so I trusted that this concealer would be good quality and I was right! It comes in pen form, which I especially like from a portability perspective, and is a thick creamy consistency. You twist the bottom to distribute product to the sponge applicator head and you don’t need a lot to cover both eyes. It blends really well and also brightens the area slightly, always a bonus! I have used it alone and with other concealers and in both cases, it provides decent coverage and does not crease easily after application. This is a great item to keep in your handbag for quick makeup application and touch-ups!

Final Thoughts

TK Maxx did me proud on this occasion! I love everything I bought and paid a lot less than I would have in normal high street stores! If you have never thought of buying beauty products from TK Maxx before, you really should have a look! They also carry amazing skin, body and hair care ranges from well-known brands so why not pop to your local brand and treat yourself?

Another Post, Another Haul! My Nyx Mix Review!

Hi, there beauty fans!

How is 2018 going for you so far? If you read my new year post you will know that my year started in a very unexpected way! But, it’s also been a great time to reflect and enjoy the Spring lead up!  Naturally, I am also loving the new makeup releases of which there have been many so far! The best thing about the changing seasons is the ability to mix up your makeup routine!

That being said, this post is about some products I bought late last year! If you read my posts, you know I am terrible for splurging on beauty and makeup hauls and this one is no different! In this haul, I focused on Nyx Professional Makeup items but also threw a few other greats in which are worth sharing with you!

So, what was in this makeup haul?

This haul was a mixed bag of different products, all good in their own right! Here’s what I bought:

  • The Nyx Sweet Cheeks Blush Palette
  • A Nyx Love Contours All Palette
  • Maybelline’s Master Blush Colour and Highlighting Palette
  • 2 Nyx Vivid Brights Liquid Eyeliners in Vivid Delight (Orange) and Vivid Blossom (Lilac)
  • Charlotte Tilbury’s Lipstick in Pillow Talk
  • Kat Von D’s Liquid Lipstick in Lolita II
  • The Nyx Control Freak Eyebrow Gel
  • The Maybelline Brow Precise Fiber Filler Brow Mascara
  • The Maybelline Eyebrow Pencil
  • Charlotte Tilbury’s Brow Lift
  • Maybelline’s Colossal Volume Express Mascara

Were they all worth it?

The Nyx Blusher Palette

As soon as I saw the colours in this palette, I knew I wanted it! There is such a lovely mix of colours and textures, suitable for everyone! The blushers are mainly matte but there are a couple of shimmery ones which could also be used as highlighters. The colour payoff is brilliant, as can be seen from the swatches and they can be built up or toned down depending on the look you want. Each blusher is reasonably soft and buttery in texture making them easy to blend into the skin and once applied none of them fades or move around the skin. I love this palette and it’s ideal for use all year round!

The Nyx Contour Palette

Prior to buying this palette, I was not a massive contour fan. It has taken me a while to warm to the contouring trend! However, it is something I do more often now, and this palette is perfect for it! In the palette, there are not only contouring and highlighting shades but also 12  eyeshadows in various neutral tones for eye contouring and defining and eyebrow powders! There is something for every contour fanatic in this selection and, as with the blushers, everything is pigmented and smooth in texture. The colours should work on most skin tones and apply beautifully with excellent longevity. This palette is a must for the neutrals and contour lovers out there!

Maybelline’s Blusher Palette

You’d think I would be content with the Nyx Blusher palette but when I saw this one from Maybelline, I fell in love with it! The selection of pink tones is gorgeous and there is also a highlighter included which compliments the other 3 colours. You can see from the swatches that the colours are vivid and a little goes a long way when applying them! All these shades will suit varying skin tones, last for hours without budging and have a lovely creamy texture.

The Nyx Liquid Eyeliners & Charlotte Tilbury’s Pillow Talk Lipstick

If you follow me and my various blog posts, you will know that I love eye makeup and creating new and different eye looks. Having an assortment of coloured eyeliners in different textures is a big part of that! Nyx has created a full range of colourful eyeliners and I already had a few of them before buying these 2 colours.

Both the orange and the lilac shades are pigmented and just as easy to use as the other liners I already had, see the swatches below. The only downside to these eyeliners is that they can crack slightly after a few hours application and if you have layers of eyeshadow on the eyelid you will need to apply a couple of layers of the eyeliner to make the colour stand out opaque against the eyeshadows. However, those minor issues have not stopped me using the liners regularly and once applied they do last for a while without crumbling or flaking. If you love colourful makeup, you should definitely test these out!

As for Charlotte Tilbury’s lipstick in Pillow Talk, you only need to read my Brand Focus post on her products to know I am a huge fan! This lipstick shade is the perfect Blushed Nude, designed to suit most skin tones and it also has a matching lip liner. Like her other lipsticks, this one is soft and creamy and applies opaque without drying out the lips. It is a matte shade and will last hours without any need to touch up. It also looks beautiful with a lip topper or gloss! Check out the swatch below.

Kat Von D’s Liquid Lipstick

Kat Von D is one of my new favourite brands! Her makeup ranges are amazing, and I am steadily building a mixture of her products! This liquid lipstick is a lovely autumn colour, not quite red, brown or pink – see the swatch! It glides onto the lips well and dries matte without drying the lips. It can be worn alone or under a lip gloss or topper and will last hours without fading, cracking or smudging! I have a couple of her liquid lipsticks now but love this one for an everyday natural look!

The Eyebrow Items

I am a big fan of sharp, defined yet natural-looking eyebrows so having good quality eyebrow products is a must. I bought all of these items to test out and each one has a positive quality! The Maybelline eyebrow gel in dark brown and pencil are both great for subtly defining and taming the eyebrows, but the pencil does run out pretty quickly so is not very cost effective and the gel needs to be applied carefully to avoid excessive product build up! That being said, once you master them they will allow you to create a defined natural brow.

The Nyx Control Freak Eyebrow gel is a clear gel which is designed to comb through the eyebrows and set the hairs in place. In all honesty, this gel was no better than any other setting gel I have tried and on some days, it controlled my eyebrows well and on others, not so much! However, as it is a clear gel it is marginally easier to apply than the Maybelline version and there is no need to worry about over darkening the eyebrows!

My favourite eyebrow product was the Charlotte Tilbury Eyebrow Shaper. This waxy pencil comes with a spoolie at one end and an under-brow highlighter tucked into the middle of the pen shaft! It has a tapered tip which allows for precise lining and applies softly to ensure a natural look whilst also adding colour to any sparse areas. The highlighter is a soft, slightly shimmery pale pink-cream colour which is applied through a small sponge under the arch of the brow. The end result once you have brushed through the brows with the spoolie is a perfectly shaped brow!

MAYBELLINE’S COLOSSAL VOLUME EXPRESS MASCARA

Finally, I bought the Maybelline Colossal Volume Express mascara. I tend not to buy mascaras much now as I love wearing false eyelashes but every now and then I like to just use my own lashes for a more subtle and natural look. When I am in that mood, I need a good mascara to make the most of my own lashes and this mascara is excellent! It has a full, dense brush head which coats all the lashes well without clogging and also separates, lengthens and volumizes! My own lashes look full and fluttery after using this mascara and there is no fallout or crumbling after hours of wear. It also removes easily with a makeup remover wipe or similar product!

Final Thoughts?

All in all, I love everything I bought in this haul! There are some standout items which I will definitely replenish in the future such as the Charlotte Tilbury Eye Shaper and the palettes, but I would positively rate most of the products and suggest you try some of them to see what you like for yourself. All the brands produce good quality makeup so if you have not dabbled with them yet, you really should!

I hope you enjoyed reading this post! Let me know your favourite Nyx products in the comments! Stay tuned for future posts and don’t forget to like, share and follow!

Guest Post: Reinvent Yourself in 2018!

Guest Post by Brigitte Evans of High Style Life

How to Give Yourself a Makeover

Although the way you look doesn’t define you as a person, it certainly reflects your style, taste and personality. It can also affect your self-confidence and self-satisfaction, so it’s important that you feel comfortable in your body and your clothes. Sometimes, all it takes is a simple change in your appearance to boost your self-esteem. Reinventing yourself can help you take a look at your inner self and discover who you really want to be. Thus, if you feel that this is a change you need, here are several simple tips that can help you attain your brand new look.

Give your skin a natural glow

Using makeup to cover your imperfections can hide them from others, but not from yourself. If you’ve been having problems with redness on your skin, acne or premature ageing, you should start your transformation by changing your skincare routine. Perhaps your current routine or the products you use don’t suit your skin type, so you should consider making a switch. If you’ve started showing signs of premature ageing, you should apply more sunscreen regularly and start using night creams. You should also consider using natural products that can nourish your skin properly. This can help you heal your skin and give it a natural, youthful glow. Not only will you not hesitate to use less makeup, but you’ll also minimise your previous insecurities.

Restyle your hair

From a new haircut to a new hair colour, there are plenty of ways to restyle your hair. Whether you decide to part your hair differently or start using different hair accessories, it’s important that your new hairstyle accentuates your facial features. You can also try ombre hairstyle, one of the most recent trends that enables you to simply highlight your ends or combine different colours. Another popular haircut for 2018 is bob, a style that can look quirky, casual, feminine and formal, and you just need to find out which style reflect your inner self.

Don’t forget your tattoos

We’ve all made a hasty decision or two in our lives, so if you have an ink reminder on your skin of a bad choice you’ve made when you were a rebellious teenager, don’t despair! You can get your tattoo covered with a new one, but make sure to go to a professional this time. On the other hand, if you don’t want more ink under your skin, you can always opt for safe laser tattoo removal and erase it completely. With state-of-the-art technology, there’s no need to spend the rest of your life regretting a decision you’ve made in your teen years.

Freshen up your wardrobe

Your outfits provide you with an opportunity to really reflect your personality through unusual accessories and authentically styled articles. Since buying new clothes can be quite expensive, you should reinvent your old pieces by wearing them differently or transforming them into new ones. You can also treat yourself to several new pieces of clothing, but if you’re on a tight budget, you should pick versatile articles that you can combine into different outfits. Changing your style completely is a great way to introduce a sense of novelty and you’ll have a world of inspiring choices. From edgy rock style, formal and elegant to casual yet feminine and charming boho chic, there’s plenty of fashionable options that can help you reinvent yourself.

Improve your figure

Whether you’ve wanted to lose a few kilograms or tone your muscles, it’s important that you make the first step. Exercising even for fifteen minutes can boost your energy and help you reshape your body. You don’t have to take up a rigorous workout routine as long as you’re regularly active. This will help you relieve stress and make you feel better about your body. You’ll be motivated to continue working on yourself and eventually, you’ll realise that you’re on your way to the body figure you’ve always wanted. Diet also plays an important role – you should switch to healthy, homemade foods and drink more water. You’ll quickly notice that you feel better, lighter and less bloated, which will improve the way you see yourself.

Reinventing your look can help you discover who you want to be and express your personality, resulting in greater self-satisfaction and improved self-esteem.

Guest Post: Get Ready For New Year’s Eve Fast!

Guest Post by Brigitte Evans of High Style Life

The winter holiday season is a time for celebration. All the holidays are tightly bound and you get yourself a good two weeks of having fun with your friends and family while eating delicious food and getting presents! You then get to usher in a new year!

However, this winter wonderland is often spoiled with the amount of work we have to do around the holidays. Panic struck, every company and every school places a ton of work in front of you which you need to complete before the holidays or worse, during the holidays. That is why, as we get older, the amount of work increases and we need to find a way to work fast and be efficient. The ultimate goal is to still be able to celebrate the holidays guilt-free, which leaves very little time for actually preparing for the most magical night of the year. Luckily, we’re here to help out with some tips on how to manage to prepare for this night despite numerous obligations.

Pamper yourself

When it comes to nurturing your skin, multitasking is a natural process. You can definitely study or work at home while wearing a mask or waiting for your skin to soak in creams and lotions. You can also use scrub treatments while showering and apply hair products that will give your hair that velvety seductive look you crave. Start doing this at least a week before New Year’s and make sure to do it intensively. The sooner you start, the better the results will be. Having smooth, gentle and healthy skin is half the work for looking beautiful and the best thing of all is that it doesn’t cost you a lot of time.

Outsource

As you don’t have a lot of time on your hands, get yourself a mani-pedi and visit the dentist. It’s a time saver and at the same time, it’s something that will contribute to your general appearance. There are quick ways to refresh your smile and if you want to do that, there is a  great dentist from Sydney at Quality Dental that can examine you and recommend some of the procedures that will quickly beautify your smile. As far as nails are concerned, it’s much faster to have someone do them than doing them yourself. Otherwise, it would take too much time and the results probably wouldn’t be as good as your cosmetician’s work.

New year Make-up

On the other hand, you can do your own make-up even if that seems more time-consuming. Make-up needs to be done on the very day of New Year’s and therefore, needs to be scheduled in advance. In case you have a lot of work to do and you are unsure about your plans for the 31st of December, don’t worry. There are plenty of tutorials and advice online for doing your own make-up. For instance, Maybelline recommends a shimmery look that involves a lot of glitter and a bold lipstick. That way, you won’t be able to escape anyone’s sight.

Be healthy

Most importantly, you cannot look good if you’re not healthy. That is why you need to do your part and eat well, try to rest and stay hydrated. Going for a run here and there and doing some workouts would also be great, if you have the time. Not only will you look much better, but you’ll also feel better and you’ll have that natural glow and a spark in your eyes that no make-up can give you. That’s why under no circumstances should you neglect your own health as it’s the base of beauty.

As you can see, there are ways to be well prepared for New Year’s despite infinite chores and duties that accompany it. Don’t forget that the way you feel affects your appearance. That is why you should try to be happy and do what feels good. That way, you’ll be able to look great almost effortlessly and when the time comes for actually beautifying yourself, your job won’t be that hard with healthy, pampered skin, hair and teeth. Just add some make-up and put on your New Year’s outfit and you’ll be good to go!

The Moroccanoil Christmas Collection – A Treat for your Hair!

Hello lovely followers!

Whose enjoying the Christmas season? I feel like I am still trying to fully embrace it, which is unusual for me but I think that’s because I am still completely focused on writing as many blog posts as possible!

If you follow me as a blogger and on social media you will have seen some of the great products I have been writing about in previous posts. Today’s post is no exception! In this article, I am sharing my review of the amazing product Moroccanoil, which I was gifted by the company themselves through my lovely blogging group Beauty Blog Collective – do check us out, as there are some other awesome beauty bloggers in the group!

So, what is MoroccanOil?

Moroccanoil is made from pure argan oil. Argan oil comes from the nut of the argan tree, which grows in the Mediterranean. The oil is rich in vitamins, minerals and antioxidants and is meant to hydrate and smooth hair, skin and nails. It also provides UV protection! Moroccanoil sources the best quality argan oil using the cold press system and ensures its products don’t  contain any additives, preservatives or colourants.

Most people know Moroccanoil for the wonderful hair oil but the brand actually produces products for the body, face and home too! In this instance, they sent me a couple of items from their Christmas shop, both of which focus on the hair oil.

What did I receive?

I received a lovely package containing the following:

  1. A Moroccanoil Treatment Ornament
  2. A Full-Size Moroccanoil Treatment Light
  3. A Moroccanoil Signature Scented Candle

I was very excited to try everything, especially the Light treatment which is designed for fine hair! I tested both oils for a couple of weeks and my thoughts on both are below.

The Original Moroccanoil Treatment Ornament

This ornament is such a great idea! It can be hung on your Christmas Tree or used as a stocking filler and is the perfect size for travel. The packaging was simple and elegant for the festive season. As for the oil, as I expected it smelt heavenly and is a beautiful amber colour. It feels rich in your hand but surprisingly it does not leave an oily residue on your skin!

I applied this oil immediately after washing my hair when it was still quite wet, on dry hair and in the morning and at night. On wet hair, it absorbed within seconds and I only used a pea-sized amount. This easily covered the lengths of my hair – you should not apply this oil to the roots if you have naturally oily hair (like I do) as it will make your roots more oily! On the hair length however it was excellent at smoothing the follicle, provided a gorgeous shine and your hair feels so silky once its dry! It also smells amazing and the scent lasts for hours!

On dry hair, it had the same effects BUT you have to be careful not to apply too much as it will weigh your hair down and make it look oily! You could literally smooth a fingertip’s worth on your hair and over frizzy areas and that is enough! Personally, I loved using it as a night-time treatment on wet hair so that it could really absorb into the follicles as it dried. That also produced the best results for me! Even though this is the miniature version, I know it will last ages as you don’t need to use much in one go.

The Moroccanoil Treatment Light

The Light version of the oil is excellent. You can actually tell it is lighter when you see it in your hand – the colour is slightly less amber coloured and the texture feels less heavy. However, it still has the same amazing effects on the hair! I used this oil in the same ways as the Original oil and I did notice that my hair felt less ‘heavy’ after using the Light version. Definitely still be careful using it on dry hair if you are prone to greasy roots but it works brilliantly on wet hair as a regular addition to your hair care routine. I would use the Light version more often and use the original as an intensive treatment!

The Moroccanoil Candle

This is a lovely gift item and it smells awesome! As soon as you remove the lid you are hit with the signature Moroccanoil scent and it lasts for hours! I have used the candle sparingly because I don’t want to use it up too fast! But, you don’t need to burn it for hours for the fragrance to fill the house! If you are a candle lover as I am, you will love this little extra!

Would I recommend trying Moroccanoil Treatment Oils?

Yes! Since using these oils, my hair has been smoother, softer and much silkier. It also speeds up drying time for wet hair massively! I have long reasonably thick hair and after applying this oil my hair would be completely dry within 30 minutes! After every use, my hair was in excellent condition and I also found my hair styled better when I used curling tongs and straighteners! Overall these oils are brilliant and definitely worth buying, they will last ages and you will easily see the difference they make to your hair!

Next, I want to try the face and body products! If they are as good as the hair oils, I will be a loyal customer for years to come! To see the entire collection and the Christmas shop check out the website here.

GUEST POST: Beauty Regrets – It Happens to the Best of Us!

GUEST POST: Brigitte Evans, High Style Life

Did you know that women’s makeup used to contain lead? People used mercury to get rid of blemishes, belladonna to make their eyes appear bigger, and even radium to reduce their wrinkles. And their hair? Hot iron tongs to curl it, lard to keep it in place, and then powdered lead to make it look smooth, and all that was supposed to be on your head for a long while without washing. Ouch, the things we do for beauty. Luckily, today’s beauty regrets generally don’t come nowhere near “died of mercury poisoning,” but most of us ladies still made some mistakes in the past. The victim of terrible fashion trends and a rebellious teenager myself, I’ve done a bunch of things I now regret. Ladies, join me as we chat about some of the biggest beauty mistakes and hand out tips on how to fix them.

Brow plucking

Curse you Cara Delevingne, and your stupid gorgeous eyebrows. Ah, the nineties and the evil thin eyebrow trend that made us over-pluck everything like there’s no tomorrow. How’s a girl supposed to go from pencil-thin brows to a set of thick, luscious ones that frame our face perfectly? Well, for one, stop plucking them. The way to fix this if your eyebrow hairs are naturally sparse or have stopped growing right from so much plucking is through good makeup skills, or with microblading. Microblading is a semi-permanent solution that lasts for up to several years and can give you just the look you want. I got mine done a few months ago and now I never have to worry about it anymore.

Drunken tattoos

Boyfriend names, drunken “jokes,” old interests that you no longer care about, tattoos can be a big source of regret. If you weren’t thinking straight, or just no longer like the tattoo you have, go to a good tattoo removal clinic. Life’s too short to be permanently marked with something you now hate.

Chunky highlights

The nineties strike again, and while chunky, skunk-like highlights used to be cool, now they’re pretty cringe-worthy. Don’t attempt to highlight your hair with any at-home kits unless you know exactly what you’re doing. Just go to a stylist, tell them what you want, and they’ll give you the perfect sun-kissed look.

Ombre horrors

Again, the at-home dye jobs can go disastrously wrong, especially if you’re attempting something as complicated as an ombre look. There’s more to it than just dying the lower half of your hair in a lighter colour, you have to make the whole thing fall in a natural gradient. Let a professional stylist do this for you, it’s so much easier and it does pay off when you end up with a bangin’ ombre look.

Sunspots and wrinkles

Oh, those good old teenage days where I ignored my mom’s constant pestering to put on the sunscreen. A bunch of hyperpigmentation marks later, I finally learned my lesson. Sun damage causes most of the visible ageing marks on our face, and the best solution to a youthful, bright complexion is using a quality non-toxic sunscreen. Don’t let a day go by where you don’t apply your SPF, especially if you’re very fair. Melanoma is one of the worst, deadliest cancers around, so don’t mess with your health.

Self-tanner

In our never-ending quest to become a sexy bronzed goddess, most of us have turned to self-tanners. Sadly, rather than a goddess, we end up looking more like a commercial for Cheetos. Go easy on the self-tanner ladies, and follow these tips if you want a beautiful summer tan.

Racoon eyes

It starts out kind of cool, in the beginning, you do a nice smokey look, you like your reflection in the mirror. But by the end of the day, everything’s smudged and you look like a crazy person. To solve this, use waterproof mascara, and use gel liners or eyeliners rather than pencils, which do tend to smudge easily. It’s also a good idea to use an eyeshadow primer to keep everything in place.

All of us made these mistakes at some point in our lives, and none of them is really a big deal. Acknowledge them, fix them, and then move on and enjoy your beauty!

The Beauty UK Show – a Weekend of Beauty Brands!

Hello lovely followers,

I must apologise for being absent for a couple of weeks – I managed to catch the flu bug that has been floating around and I’m only just starting to feel like myself again! On the brighter side, it has allowed me to think about future posts and plan more!

In my last beauty post, I shared my IMATS experience which was amazing! This post was going to be about the makeup I bought at the event, but then I realised I actually went to a second beauty event the day after IMATS! This was the Beauty UK show at Birmingham NEC and whilst not quite as good as IMATS, it was still worthwhile attending. So, I thought I’d share my review of this show too and then I can post about the hauls from both events next post!

What is the Beauty UK Show?

Beauty UK is a trade show which comes to Birmingham every year. It is the largest show outside of London and plays host to 600 leading brands. Tickets are £20 or free if you’re in the beauty trade and book in advance. As I am a makeup and hair artist I was able to attend for free!

Who was there?

As you can imagine, there were loads of great beauty brands in attendance! I received a program for the event before I went so I had a good idea of the exhibitor stands I wanted to visit. There were some usual favourites like Inglot, Helen E and Magpie Beauty:

Naturally, I bought a few items from Inglot, which is a favourite of mine, but my main focus was exploring the lesser known and the hard to find in the UK brands! I was thrilled when I realised that LA Splash, Lit Cosmetics and Sugarpill were exhibiting:

I bought a couple of items from Lit Cosmetics, which is an amazing brand for glitters of all colours and I tested a multitude of lipsticks and glosses from LA Splash! In the end, I didn’t buy anything from Sugarpill on this occasion but there were some great pigments and eyeshadows to choose from.

other brands

There were also some other makeup and hair supply brands that I had not seen or bought anything from before:

I loved the lashes by Chelsea Beautique and the brand Miss Gorgeous had some unusual brushes and makeup tools – definitely worth checking out on their website!

Other brands I didn’t get round to visiting were:

  • Megamix – another glitter brand
  • Bellapierre – a cruelty-free mineral makeup company
  • Crownbrush – the well-known makeup brush provider
  • Glitter Lips – designers of the popular glitter lip kits
  • High Definition Brows Ltd – the definitive brow company

All in all, this was a worthwhile event to attend and I bought some lovely items! The fact it was free was a bonus considering how many beauty companies were present. If you have never been to one of these shows I would highly recommend going in 2018 and bagging some beauty finds!

Watch out for my next post where I reveal my purchases and don’t forget to like, follow and subscribe!

IMATS 2017 – The Greatest Makeup Extravaganza of the Year!

Hello lovely followers,

I hope you are all having a great week so far!

This post has been a very long time coming! I attended IMATS back in May this year and it has been on my draft list for ages! I first attended IMATS with a friend a few years ago, long before I became a makeup artist and beauty blogger, and even then I was hooked!

So what is IMATS?

IMATS stands for International Makeup Artist Trade Show! It is the world’s largest celebration of makeup artistry and creativity. Every year, thousands of make-up artists, exhibitors, and enthusiasts attend the how to discuss, display and collect the best the makeup industry has to offer. Professionals from the fashion and film sectors also attend to provide education and demonstrations at IMATS, and new products often debut there. IMATS also features a make-up museum and the Battle of the Brushes student makeup competitions, where international makeup students race to create winning looks! It’s basically a makeup lovers paradise!

Before IMATS, there were no trade shows specifically designed for make-up artists so to address this, Emmy Award-winning make-up artist and Make-Up Artist magazine publisher Michael Key held the first IMATS in August 1997 in Los Angeles. IMATS then expanded to Europe in 2002, with the debut of IMATS London and now you can attend it in many different places around the globe – the show is held six times annually in Los Angeles; New York; London; Vancouver, B.C.; Sydney; and Toronto.

IMATS 2017

This year’s IMATS was, as expected, amazing! I booked my ticket to go months in advance for £45 and by the time the day finally arrived I was so excited I could barely sit still! It was at this year’s event that I actually found out you can sign up for a Pro card which provides lots of additional benefits depending on which level of card you qualify for. I will definitely be applying for the card for next year’s show – you can find out more here.

This year, I attended the event alone and despite arriving pretty early I still had to queue to get in. However, the buzz in the queue was great and everyone was super excited! Once I arrived at the entrance, this is what I walked into:

The atmosphere was crazy! Everywhere you looked there were people shopping, trying makeup, displaying artistic work – it was overwhelming! The first thing I decided to do was find my bearings, as there were loads of makeup brand stands I wanted to visit. Looking back and through the many photographs I took, which are all shared in this post, I am sure there were some I missed!

The Brands

Where do I start? There were some familiar loved makeup brands and then a whole host of brands I had never heard of or tried before. I was literally in heaven! I’ll start with the brands we all know and love:

  • Nars
  • Kat Von D
  • MAC
  • Inglot
  • Urban Decay
  • Beauty Bakerie
  • Lime Crime
  • Nyx
  • Makeup Forever
  • Bobbi Brown

As you can imagine all these stands were busy all day long! A few of them I could not even get close enough to look at the displays!

You can see all the brands had good sized displays and there were some lovely products to buy! Most of the items were available in their normal stores although some of the brands did have offers purely for the show. Watch out for my next post with details of all the makeup I spoilt myself with!

The lesser known brands and those that I had never heard of or bought anything from were:

  • Kryolan
  • Velour
  • Treasure House of Makeup
  • Royal Langnickel
  • Graftobian
  • Makeup Atelier
  • Sugarpill
  • Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics
  • The Makeup Outlet
  • Guru Makeup Emporium
  • Bdellium Tools
  • Louise Young
  • Naked Cosmetics
  • Provoc
  • Thalia
  • Lash Unlimited
  • Ben Nye
  • Hakuhodo
  • Mehron
  • Screenface

Exploring these brands was the most fun for me! They sold general makeup and accessories to heavy duty theatrical face and body cosmetics! I got to test makeup by brands I had always wanted to try like Makeup Atelier and Ben Nye and play with lashes by Velour! One of my favourite discoveries was Guru Makeup Emporium which stocked Danessa Myricks photographic makeup – her makeup is exceptional! But my highlight had to be visiting the HakuHodo stand! This brand produces some of the finest makeup brushes in the world! There were so many to pick from, I was like a child in a candy shop! You could tell just from the feel of them that they were going to deliver excellent results and the available ranges covered every type of brush possible.

Was it worth attending IMATS 2017?

Without a doubt yes! If you love makeup and meeting other people that love makeup, this is the event you have to attend each year. You’ll see what treasures I picked up in my next post, but even without spending, it is such a fun and vibrant day out, filled with colour and variety and just by talking to the brand staff you can learn so much. I am already planning for 2018 IMATS – tickets will go on sale 6 months before the day, which will be in May again. For full information check out the IMATS website here. Who’s going to join me? Let me know in the comments and don’t forget to follow and subscribe!

Watch out for my next makeup reveal post on my gorgeous IMATS purchases!
