My TK Maxx Finds – A Treasure Trove for Beauty Lovers!

Hello, makeup fans!

As it is already approaching March and the onset of Spring and Spring makeup changes, I thought it would be helpful to share my thoughts about a great place to find beauty products – TK Maxx! It was on a trip to Newmarket visiting one of my closest friends that I discovered how amazing the beauty section of TK Maxx actually is! Since then, I periodically visit my local TK Maxx stores to see what new beauty finds they have in stock. Often, they will carry well-known medium to high-end brands for excellent prices, so it is always worth a trip!

On this occasion, I found some lovely products that were too good to miss! Here’s what I picked up:

  • Loreal’s Colour Riche La Palette Gold
  • Max Studio’s Eye Companion
  • Nyx High Voltage Lipsticks
  • Flawless Mini Makeup Blenders
  • Isabella Scott’s Highlight & Contour Brushes
  • Revlon’s ColorStay Under Eye Concealer

The Colour Riche Palette

I had seen this palette in other stores and couldn’t decide whether I really wanted it! When I came across it in TK Maxx for less than full price, I decided it was a sign and purchased it! It’s a slim palette containing 10 eyeshadows in jewel tones which is perfect for the Winter. Each eyeshadow is smooth and reasonably creamy, and the pigmentation is pretty good! The colours apply and blend well although there is some fallout. They will last for a few hours without fading or bleeding around the eye though. Overall, it’s a decent addition to any makeup kit and you can create quite a few looks just from this one palette.

Max Studio

I had never seen or heard of Max Studio before this trip to TK Maxx but having visited other stores, it is a regularly stocked brand. I liked this palette because of the neutral colour selection and its size. The palette also came with an eye look inspiration leaflet which is always a useful addition to any palette! The eyeshadows are actually very good quality and buttery! The colour pay off is also good, as can be seen from the swatches. There is very little kickback when using them and it’s the ideal palette for creating simple daytime looks or a subtle smoky eye. I will definitely try other products by Max Studio now I have tested this one!

Nyx’s High Voltage Lipsticks

These lipsticks were a fab find! There were a number of colours to pick from in store, but I chose these 4 as they were super pigmented and perfect for all occasions! Nyx is a well-known, affordable and popular brand which can be found in many places now, but TK Maxx had reduced the price of these lipsticks even further! The texture of each one is so soft and creamy, like a lip balm, but the colour is opaque once applied. Your lips stay soft and hydrated throughout wearing and reapplication is only needed after eating. All in all, they are lovely and due to their smaller size, they are great lipsticks on the go!

Mini Makeup Blenders

I love mini blenders like these! They are perfect for applying correctors, concealers and powders on the smaller, harder to reach areas of the face! My main use for them is under the eyes and on my T-Zone. I was thrilled to get 4 of them in this pack and whilst they aren’t the traditional Beauty Blender mini sponges they are just as good. The texture is reasonably soft, so they can be manipulated to apply in tricky spaces. As they are so small they are also easy to clean and take very little time to dry! I have a ton of these mini blenders now and highly recommend trying them if you never have.

Isabella Scott Makeup Brushes

These brushes came together in a set. I had never heard of Isabella Scott brushes before buying these and have not seen any others by her since, but I loved the shape of these brushes, so I bought them.

The Highlighter Brush

The first one is the highlighter brush. It has a C curved brush head which is designed to fit over the tops of the cheekbones. The second brush is the contour brush which has a wave shape to fit the bottom of the cheekbones and the hollows of the cheeks. Out of the 2, the contour brush works best. The bristles on both are quite soft but retain their shape, however trying to ensure there is product on the entire highlighter brush is tricky because of the C shape! It does fit the upper cheekbones nicely though.

The Contour Brush

The contour brush is much easier to use and when you dip the brush into a powder contour the powder will distribute across the entire brush head. When you apply the contour, the shape of the brush head fits the face’s shape well and all you need to do after the application is ensure there are no harsh edges. That being said, I would not use the entire brush head if using a cream contour as the result would be too heavy and difficult to blend out.

Generally, I like these brushes and they are sturdy and well made. However, if I could choose which one to buy rather than the set, I would only buy the contour brush!

Revlon’s Under Eye Concealer

I love a good concealer! Revlon makes great makeup, so I trusted that this concealer would be good quality and I was right! It comes in pen form, which I especially like from a portability perspective, and is a thick creamy consistency. You twist the bottom to distribute product to the sponge applicator head and you don’t need a lot to cover both eyes. It blends really well and also brightens the area slightly, always a bonus! I have used it alone and with other concealers and in both cases, it provides decent coverage and does not crease easily after application. This is a great item to keep in your handbag for quick makeup application and touch-ups!

Final Thoughts

TK Maxx did me proud on this occasion! I love everything I bought and paid a lot less than I would have in normal high street stores! If you have never thought of buying beauty products from TK Maxx before, you really should have a look! They also carry amazing skin, body and hair care ranges from well-known brands so why not pop to your local brand and treat yourself?

Another Post, Another Haul! My Nyx Mix Review!

Hi, there beauty fans!

How is 2018 going for you so far? If you read my new year post you will know that my year started in a very unexpected way! But, it’s also been a great time to reflect and enjoy the Spring lead up!  Naturally, I am also loving the new makeup releases of which there have been many so far! The best thing about the changing seasons is the ability to mix up your makeup routine!

That being said, this post is about some products I bought late last year! If you read my posts, you know I am terrible for splurging on beauty and makeup hauls and this one is no different! In this haul, I focused on Nyx Professional Makeup items but also threw a few other greats in which are worth sharing with you!

So, what was in this makeup haul?

This haul was a mixed bag of different products, all good in their own right! Here’s what I bought:

  • The Nyx Sweet Cheeks Blush Palette
  • A Nyx Love Contours All Palette
  • Maybelline’s Master Blush Colour and Highlighting Palette
  • 2 Nyx Vivid Brights Liquid Eyeliners in Vivid Delight (Orange) and Vivid Blossom (Lilac)
  • Charlotte Tilbury’s Lipstick in Pillow Talk
  • Kat Von D’s Liquid Lipstick in Lolita II
  • The Nyx Control Freak Eyebrow Gel
  • The Maybelline Brow Precise Fiber Filler Brow Mascara
  • The Maybelline Eyebrow Pencil
  • Charlotte Tilbury’s Brow Lift
  • Maybelline’s Colossal Volume Express Mascara

Were they all worth it?

The Nyx Blusher Palette

As soon as I saw the colours in this palette, I knew I wanted it! There is such a lovely mix of colours and textures, suitable for everyone! The blushers are mainly matte but there are a couple of shimmery ones which could also be used as highlighters. The colour payoff is brilliant, as can be seen from the swatches and they can be built up or toned down depending on the look you want. Each blusher is reasonably soft and buttery in texture making them easy to blend into the skin and once applied none of them fades or move around the skin. I love this palette and it’s ideal for use all year round!

The Nyx Contour Palette

Prior to buying this palette, I was not a massive contour fan. It has taken me a while to warm to the contouring trend! However, it is something I do more often now, and this palette is perfect for it! In the palette, there are not only contouring and highlighting shades but also 12  eyeshadows in various neutral tones for eye contouring and defining and eyebrow powders! There is something for every contour fanatic in this selection and, as with the blushers, everything is pigmented and smooth in texture. The colours should work on most skin tones and apply beautifully with excellent longevity. This palette is a must for the neutrals and contour lovers out there!

Maybelline’s Blusher Palette

You’d think I would be content with the Nyx Blusher palette but when I saw this one from Maybelline, I fell in love with it! The selection of pink tones is gorgeous and there is also a highlighter included which compliments the other 3 colours. You can see from the swatches that the colours are vivid and a little goes a long way when applying them! All these shades will suit varying skin tones, last for hours without budging and have a lovely creamy texture.

The Nyx Liquid Eyeliners & Charlotte Tilbury’s Pillow Talk Lipstick

If you follow me and my various blog posts, you will know that I love eye makeup and creating new and different eye looks. Having an assortment of coloured eyeliners in different textures is a big part of that! Nyx has created a full range of colourful eyeliners and I already had a few of them before buying these 2 colours.

Both the orange and the lilac shades are pigmented and just as easy to use as the other liners I already had, see the swatches below. The only downside to these eyeliners is that they can crack slightly after a few hours application and if you have layers of eyeshadow on the eyelid you will need to apply a couple of layers of the eyeliner to make the colour stand out opaque against the eyeshadows. However, those minor issues have not stopped me using the liners regularly and once applied they do last for a while without crumbling or flaking. If you love colourful makeup, you should definitely test these out!

As for Charlotte Tilbury’s lipstick in Pillow Talk, you only need to read my Brand Focus post on her products to know I am a huge fan! This lipstick shade is the perfect Blushed Nude, designed to suit most skin tones and it also has a matching lip liner. Like her other lipsticks, this one is soft and creamy and applies opaque without drying out the lips. It is a matte shade and will last hours without any need to touch up. It also looks beautiful with a lip topper or gloss! Check out the swatch below.

Kat Von D’s Liquid Lipstick

Kat Von D is one of my new favourite brands! Her makeup ranges are amazing, and I am steadily building a mixture of her products! This liquid lipstick is a lovely autumn colour, not quite red, brown or pink – see the swatch! It glides onto the lips well and dries matte without drying the lips. It can be worn alone or under a lip gloss or topper and will last hours without fading, cracking or smudging! I have a couple of her liquid lipsticks now but love this one for an everyday natural look!

The Eyebrow Items

I am a big fan of sharp, defined yet natural-looking eyebrows so having good quality eyebrow products is a must. I bought all of these items to test out and each one has a positive quality! The Maybelline eyebrow gel in dark brown and pencil are both great for subtly defining and taming the eyebrows, but the pencil does run out pretty quickly so is not very cost effective and the gel needs to be applied carefully to avoid excessive product build up! That being said, once you master them they will allow you to create a defined natural brow.

The Nyx Control Freak Eyebrow gel is a clear gel which is designed to comb through the eyebrows and set the hairs in place. In all honesty, this gel was no better than any other setting gel I have tried and on some days, it controlled my eyebrows well and on others, not so much! However, as it is a clear gel it is marginally easier to apply than the Maybelline version and there is no need to worry about over darkening the eyebrows!

My favourite eyebrow product was the Charlotte Tilbury Eyebrow Shaper. This waxy pencil comes with a spoolie at one end and an under-brow highlighter tucked into the middle of the pen shaft! It has a tapered tip which allows for precise lining and applies softly to ensure a natural look whilst also adding colour to any sparse areas. The highlighter is a soft, slightly shimmery pale pink-cream colour which is applied through a small sponge under the arch of the brow. The end result once you have brushed through the brows with the spoolie is a perfectly shaped brow!

MAYBELLINE’S COLOSSAL VOLUME EXPRESS MASCARA

Finally, I bought the Maybelline Colossal Volume Express mascara. I tend not to buy mascaras much now as I love wearing false eyelashes but every now and then I like to just use my own lashes for a more subtle and natural look. When I am in that mood, I need a good mascara to make the most of my own lashes and this mascara is excellent! It has a full, dense brush head which coats all the lashes well without clogging and also separates, lengthens and volumizes! My own lashes look full and fluttery after using this mascara and there is no fallout or crumbling after hours of wear. It also removes easily with a makeup remover wipe or similar product!

Final Thoughts?

All in all, I love everything I bought in this haul! There are some standout items which I will definitely replenish in the future such as the Charlotte Tilbury Eye Shaper and the palettes, but I would positively rate most of the products and suggest you try some of them to see what you like for yourself. All the brands produce good quality makeup so if you have not dabbled with them yet, you really should!

I hope you enjoyed reading this post! Let me know your favourite Nyx products in the comments! Stay tuned for future posts and don’t forget to like, share and follow!

IMATS 2017 – The Greatest Makeup Extravaganza of the Year!

Hello lovely followers,

I hope you are all having a great week so far!

This post has been a very long time coming! I attended IMATS back in May this year and it has been on my draft list for ages! I first attended IMATS with a friend a few years ago, long before I became a makeup artist and beauty blogger, and even then I was hooked!

So what is IMATS?

IMATS stands for International Makeup Artist Trade Show! It is the world’s largest celebration of makeup artistry and creativity. Every year, thousands of make-up artists, exhibitors, and enthusiasts attend the how to discuss, display and collect the best the makeup industry has to offer. Professionals from the fashion and film sectors also attend to provide education and demonstrations at IMATS, and new products often debut there. IMATS also features a make-up museum and the Battle of the Brushes student makeup competitions, where international makeup students race to create winning looks! It’s basically a makeup lovers paradise!

Before IMATS, there were no trade shows specifically designed for make-up artists so to address this, Emmy Award-winning make-up artist and Make-Up Artist magazine publisher Michael Key held the first IMATS in August 1997 in Los Angeles. IMATS then expanded to Europe in 2002, with the debut of IMATS London and now you can attend it in many different places around the globe – the show is held six times annually in Los Angeles; New York; London; Vancouver, B.C.; Sydney; and Toronto.

IMATS 2017

This year’s IMATS was, as expected, amazing! I booked my ticket to go months in advance for £45 and by the time the day finally arrived I was so excited I could barely sit still! It was at this year’s event that I actually found out you can sign up for a Pro card which provides lots of additional benefits depending on which level of card you qualify for. I will definitely be applying for the card for next year’s show – you can find out more here.

This year, I attended the event alone and despite arriving pretty early I still had to queue to get in. However, the buzz in the queue was great and everyone was super excited! Once I arrived at the entrance, this is what I walked into:

The atmosphere was crazy! Everywhere you looked there were people shopping, trying makeup, displaying artistic work – it was overwhelming! The first thing I decided to do was find my bearings, as there were loads of makeup brand stands I wanted to visit. Looking back and through the many photographs I took, which are all shared in this post, I am sure there were some I missed!

The Brands

Where do I start? There were some familiar loved makeup brands and then a whole host of brands I had never heard of or tried before. I was literally in heaven! I’ll start with the brands we all know and love:

  • Nars
  • Kat Von D
  • MAC
  • Inglot
  • Urban Decay
  • Beauty Bakerie
  • Lime Crime
  • Nyx
  • Makeup Forever
  • Bobbi Brown

As you can imagine all these stands were busy all day long! A few of them I could not even get close enough to look at the displays!

You can see all the brands had good sized displays and there were some lovely products to buy! Most of the items were available in their normal stores although some of the brands did have offers purely for the show. Watch out for my next post with details of all the makeup I spoilt myself with!

The lesser known brands and those that I had never heard of or bought anything from were:

  • Kryolan
  • Velour
  • Treasure House of Makeup
  • Royal Langnickel
  • Graftobian
  • Makeup Atelier
  • Sugarpill
  • Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics
  • The Makeup Outlet
  • Guru Makeup Emporium
  • Bdellium Tools
  • Louise Young
  • Naked Cosmetics
  • Provoc
  • Thalia
  • Lash Unlimited
  • Ben Nye
  • Hakuhodo
  • Mehron
  • Screenface

Exploring these brands was the most fun for me! They sold general makeup and accessories to heavy duty theatrical face and body cosmetics! I got to test makeup by brands I had always wanted to try like Makeup Atelier and Ben Nye and play with lashes by Velour! One of my favourite discoveries was Guru Makeup Emporium which stocked Danessa Myricks photographic makeup – her makeup is exceptional! But my highlight had to be visiting the HakuHodo stand! This brand produces some of the finest makeup brushes in the world! There were so many to pick from, I was like a child in a candy shop! You could tell just from the feel of them that they were going to deliver excellent results and the available ranges covered every type of brush possible.

Was it worth attending IMATS 2017?

Without a doubt yes! If you love makeup and meeting other people that love makeup, this is the event you have to attend each year. You’ll see what treasures I picked up in my next post, but even without spending, it is such a fun and vibrant day out, filled with colour and variety and just by talking to the brand staff you can learn so much. I am already planning for 2018 IMATS – tickets will go on sale 6 months before the day, which will be in May again. For full information check out the IMATS website here. Who’s going to join me? Let me know in the comments and don’t forget to follow and subscribe!

Watch out for my next makeup reveal post on my gorgeous IMATS purchases!

A Deck of Scarlet – My Second Palette!

Hi there, lovelies!

I have been meaning to write this post about the second Deck of Scarlet palette for ages and finally, I have the time to do it! It was a while ago that I wrote about this subscription service – to find out all the details, check out my first post here.

The Palette contents

The second palette is as lovely as the first one! As before, there are 3 eyeshadows, 2 lip colours, a highlighter and a blush/bronzer. When I first saw these colours on the preview email I received, I was not sure I would really like or use them. However, when I received the palette, I loved them! Here are the swatches for each:

Along with the palette, I also received a lip liner and an eye liner:

The lip liner is a brown-nude shade to correspond with the lip colours and the eye liner is a pretty deep green shade. Here are the swatches:

the quality

As expected, the quality of all the makeup was excellent. The eyeshadows are very pigmented, reasonably soft and easy to blend with minimal fallout. Despite how contrasting the colours are, they work well together and the highlighter and bronzer can also be used on the eyes to provide more options!

The highlighter is a pale gold shade, perfect for emphasising under the eyebrow, the inner eye corner and the cheekbones. It also works well as the base to any eye look. The bronzer is ideal for creating a warmth around the face and also works as a contour shade! It’s also perfect for a daytime smoky eye look!

The lip liner is smooth and easy to apply. It does not pull the delicate skin around the lips and has great colour payoff. Even though it’s darker than the lighter lip colour, they still work well together and you can use the combination to create an ombre lip!

The eyeliner is equally pigmented and soft enough to use on the water lines and as a smudgy eyeliner due to its blend-ability! The colour also has a hint of shimmer which I love!

The 2 lip colours are beautiful. The peachy colour is more a matte lipstick and applies smoothly with good coverage in one application. It had great staying power throughout the day and good colour payoff. It also did not dry out my lips which can sometimes happen with matte lipsticks. The darker brown is more a glossy lipstick, soft and putty-like. It applied easily and left a slight shine to the lips after application. Despite being a softer glossy product it still lasted well and the colour did not fade. It also did not dry out my lips.

My first look

As you’d expect, as soon as I received this palette I created a makeup look with it!

In this look, I used the highlighter as the base eyeshadow, the bronzer as my transition and outer corner shade and then applied the green and orange shades across the eyelid. I then applied the eyeliner in the water lines and across the upper lash line.

I used a little of the bronzer around the face and the highlighter across the cheekbones, down the bridge of my nose and under my eyebrows. Lastly, I applied the peachy lip colour and just faintly lined my lips with the lip liner. Hopefully, you can see how pigmented all the colours are – I was really pleased with the final look!

Overall, I was very happy with the second Deck of Scarlet palette and think the price is brilliant for the quality and amount of makeup you receive! To buy all these items separately would cost much more than the subscription fee and would not necessarily be quality either. If like me you love to try new makeup without the hassle of trawling the shops, this service is well worth a try!

Thanks for reading, I hope you enjoyed this post and stay tuned for more in coming weeks! Don’t forget to like, comment, follow and subscribe!

The Body Shop Beauty & Skin Care – My Review

Hi, beauty fans!

I can’t believe it is already May 2017! This year is flying by but so far it has been a positive one! I have already been presented with some very exciting opportunities and I have met some lovely people – long may it continue!

The Body Shop

One such opportunity I was given was to review a selection of skin care products and makeup from The Body Shop! One of my old school friends is now a Body Shop Consultant and thought I would be interested to try some of the recent ranges so she kindly sent me some samples. In return, I offered to do a review of the products and now after a few weeks of testing everything I am finally able to write this post!

I have loved The Body Shop for years, mainly for their body care and the lovely Christmas ranges they always create each year! I had never really tested the skin care or the makeup so this was a real eye-opener, for me! This is what I received:

On the left are the following products:

  • Lip and Cheek Stain in Vineyard Peach
  • A Himalayan Charcoal Purifying Glow Mask sachet
  • An Oils of Life Intensely Revitalising Facial Oil sachet
  • A Drops of Youth Youth Bouncy Sleeping Mask sachet
  • Drops of Youth (Facial) Concentrate

On the right are samples of the following:

  • Amazonian Acai Mask
  • Instablur
  • Ethiopian Honey Mask
  • Chinese Ginseng and Rice Mask
  • All in One BB Cream
  • Drops of Light Day Cream
  • Vitamin C Liquid Peel
  • Drops of Youth Youth Cream
  • Oils of Life Revitalising Cream
  • Drops of Youth Liquid Peel
  • British Rose Mask

You can imagine how much fun I have had trying all these lovely samples! I managed to use everything a few times each to get a real feel for the products and how they affected my skin, and my review of each is below:

  • Lip and Cheek Stain

This product comes in 9 shades – I tested Vineyard Peach, which was fortunate for me as I love peach makeup! The actual stain is a creamy texture and very easy to blend into the skin. The colour is quite pigmented in the bottle but once on the skin, it provides a wash of colour rather than a super intense look. It can be built up to achieve a deeper more noticeable blush but I actually liked that it gave a more subtle natural glow. It has the same effect on the lips and doesn’t dry them out, but I preferred it as a blusher simply because I like my lip colour to be more obvious.

More Info: Lip and Cheek Stain

  • Himalayan Charcoal Purifying Glow Mask

I was very excited to try this mask as I have heard so many good things about it and about Charcoal in general. It’s unlike any other mask I have ever tried! It contains bamboo charcoal, tea tree oil and green tea leaves and the texture was a slightly loose, grainy but non-abrasive paste. The fragrance was pleasant and it doesn’t completely dry once applied but won’t easily move or drip either. I applied it for up to 5-10 minutes and then washed off and my skin looked and felt gorgeous! It was smooth, plump and soft and brighter than before. I got 3 uses from the sachet and the result each time was very good – I am sure if I was to use it as part of my regular skincare routine it would have long-lasting positive effects!

More Info: Himalayan Charcoal Purifying Glow Mask

  • Oils of Life Revitalising Facial Oil

This range is designed to provide radiance to the skin. Everything contains 3 seed oils – Black Cumin seed oil, Camellia seed oil and Rosehip seed oil, as well as essential oils and olive oil. It has a strong, slightly spiced scent and feels lovely on the skin. It absorbs easily and the skin feels soft and nourished afterwards. I am a big fan of facial oils and this one is a definite must try. As you don’t need more than a couple of drops at a time, I was able to use this oil a few times morning and night and I definitely noticed how great my skin felt and looked.

More Info: Oils of Life Revitalising Facial Oil

  • Drops of Youth Youth Bouncy Sleeping Mask

When I saw this amongst the samples I was so happy, as I love trying products that work overnight! This mask is designed to fight the first signs of ageing and provide plump fresh skin. The mask is a milky colour in a gel-cream formula and it smooths over the skin beautifully. You don’t feel like you’re wearing a mask at all! It isn’t sticky or wet once applied so my face didn’t stick to my pillows or bed linen and when I woke up my skin felt gorgeous! Even after I washed my face my skin remained soft and full. This was one of my favourite products out of the samples and I highly recommend trying it!

More Info: Drops of Youth Youth Bouncy Sleeping Mask

  • Drops of Youth Concentrate

Another great product from the Drops of Youth range! This Concentrate is like a facial serum, in a milky loose gel formula and you only a need a pea-sized amount to cover your whole face. It absorbs quickly and gives the skin a slightly blurred effect! This is great if you want to reduce the appearance of pores and fine lines! As the sample I was sent was a good size, I am still using this and I love it!

More Info: Drops of Youth Concentrate

  • Amazonian Acai Mask

I love face masks! Trying all the sample masks was skincare heaven for me! This mask almost feels like a scrub as it is slightly grainy! It smells really fruity and smooths onto the skin as a gel. I left it on for 5 minutes in each use and afterwards my skin felt fresh and soft and almost dewy! Its designed to invigorate the skin and it certainly did that!

More Info: Amazonian Acai Face Mask

  • Instablur

This product does exactly what the name implies! It is a soft clear putty which once applied blurs lines, pores and skin blemishes, leaving the skin very smooth and soft, ready for foundation. You can also wear it without makeup and it has the same effects. I normally use Benefit Porefessional to hide my pores etc. but I would consider switching to this now I have tested it!

More Info: All in One Instablur

  • Ethiopian Honey Mask

This mask smells and feels heavenly! It looks like it could be actual honey and has a definite honey scent, warm and comforting. It glides onto the skin as a thick gel, remains moist and after leaving on the skin for 5 minutes it washes off to leave radiant moisturised skin. If you suffer from dry skin it would be a great mask to replenish the moisture in the skin.

More Info: Ethiopian Honey Mask

  • Chinese Ginseng and Rice Mask

This was by far my favourite mask! It looks more like a scrub than a normal face mask but it is designed to exfoliate the skin as a mask. It has a creamy consistency with very fine rice grains and when I tried it I massaged it into the skin before letting it set, just to get some extra exfoliation from it! As with the other masks, I let it sit for 5 minutes and then washed it off and my skin felt simply amazing! So smooth and soft, more so than any of the other masks I tried and the texture of my skin looked and felt like it did when I was a child! This mask is definitely going on my wishlist!

More Info: Chinese Ginseng and Rice Mask

  • All in One BB Cream

This was probably my least favourite product. I don’t wear BB creams generally as I prefer foundations, so this product was already fighting an uphill battle! To be fair to the product, it does do what it is supposed to in that it adapted to my skin tone well and I did not need a huge amount to evenly cover my face. My skin did look more even after application as well. However I like my base to provide medium to full coverage which this did not do, not surprisingly as a BB cream, and I also did not like the smell of the cream, which was almost medicinal.

More Info: All in One BB Cream

  • Drops of Light Day Cream

The Drops of Light range is designed to brighten the skin and diminish dark spots. The effects become more apparent after a few weeks of use so I would need to keep using this product to determine if it does brighten the skin. However, after using it a few times I did find that it moisturised my skin well and left my skin dewy and smelling great! You can tell from the appearance of the cream itself that it has brightening qualities so I would expect that in time it would have the effect it states but I would have to keep testing it to be sure!

More Info: Drops of Light Day Cream

  • Vitamin C Liquid Peel

Peels are another skin care product I really love to use! After testing Cure Natural Aqua Gel, I realised how amazing a face peel can be so I was excited to try the Peels in the samples. This Vitamin C Peel was my favourite of the two I tested and my second favourite product from all the samples. It has a fresh citrus smell and turns from a gel into a liquid when applied to the skin. According to the description, you can let this product sit on the skin and then peel it off however I found it worked far better if you gently rubbed the liquid over the skin – you could see the dead skin flaking away! After rinsing the skin, it felt soft, fresh and smooth and looked brighter and less textured. This is another item I will be adding to my wishlist!

More Info: Vitamin C Liquid Peel

  • Drops of Youth Youth Cream

This cream is luxurious, thick and rich. It’s super moisturising, has a lovely comforting scent and leaves the skin feeling deeply hydrated and plump. As it is so rich, you don’t need much so I still have some of the sample left and will use it when my skin needs an extra dose of moisture.

More Info: Drops of Youth Youth Cream

  • Oils of Life Revitalising Cream

This is another thick nourishing day cream. As with the other Oils of Life sample, it has a lovely slightly spicy fragrance and whilst it feels oily on your fingers once applied to the face it absorbs well and there is no oily residue. The skin feels soft and supple after use and after continued use, you should see a reduction in the visible signs of ageing. I cannot vouch for that yet but just from my limited use, I would definitely consider buying it in the future.

More Info: Oils of Life Revitalising Cream

  • Drops of Youth Liquid Peel

This was the second peel I sampled, from the Drops of Youth range, however, I did not find this one nearly as effective as the Vitamin C Liquid Peel. To start I did not like the smell of the product which was very strong and almost astringent. I also found that whilst it did remove dead skin the result was not as noticeable as with the Vitamin C peel and I found that some of the peel was difficult to remove, especially where I had tiny facial hairs. If I had to choose which to buy the Vitamin C Peel would win hands down.

  • British Rose Mask

This was the final mask I tested. As the name states, it’s all about the rose and should give you dewy plumped skin after use. It smells gorgeous and has visible rose extracts in the gel. After leaving it on my skin for 5 minutes and rinsing, my skin did feel fresh and soft but I have to say it was no more noticeable than any of the other masks. What I liked about this mask was the scent, which lingered on the skin even after removing it. If you love the rose scent then you’ll love this!

And that is the end of my Body Shop samples review! I have loved trying so many lovely products and luckily my skin has reacted well to everything given how many different things I have tried! It has also been great learning more about The Body Shop ranges and I have to say I would happily buy skincare from there now!

I know this is a particularly long post, but I wanted to make sure I covered every single product in enough detail to help all of you decide whether to spend your hard-earned money on them! Hopefully, I have done that and you’ve enjoyed reading this – if you have, I’d love for you to like and share the post and if you have any questions about the products feel free to leave them in the comments!

See you back here soon!

5 things I love about Makeup Geek – My Collection

Hi, there beauty lovers!

I hope you have all been enjoying your Easter Bank holiday weekend, I cannot believe how fast it has gone! I have spent most of it working on improving my blog so I have not posted anything new until now! This post took some preparation but I have been wanting to write it for ages!

Makeup Geek

If you have not heard of or used Makeup Geek eyeshadow before you’re really missing out! I had not heard of the brand myself until about 18 months ago but I am so glad I did because it is now one of my staple brands to follow and buy from.

Makeup Geek has been producing quality makeup and brushes for a while now and everything I have bought has been excellent. They have also launched lip products which I am going to purchase as soon as I can! As far as the eyeshadow is concerned though, it is second to none for pigmentation, texture, colour range and affordability.

As someone who loves to experiment with eye looks (check out my Instagram and Pinterest feeds and you’ll see for yourself!), once I knew how extensive the Makeup Geek range was I had to start collecting the pans!

This is my current collection:

I have tried to amass a good selection from each colour group and I have used almost every colour! My collection includes a mixture of all the different Makeup Geek eyeshadow finishes – matte, foiled and duochrome. Regardless of the finish you use, the colour payoff is exceptional as is the durability.

The Swatches

Now for the fun part! I took swatches of every single colour in my collection for all of you to see! I also listed the names of each eyeshadow pan next to the swatch so you can pick the colours you really like and might want to buy:

Hopefully, you can see how amazing the colours and pigmentation are – on my eyes, the colours are even more intense.

So, what are the 5 things I love about Makeup Geek?

  1. The colour range – I am a colour magnet and love everything multicoloured so for me Makeup Geek is heaven! I can be as muted or as bright and crazy as I want and I know that every single pan will be good quality and will look beautiful after application. There is also very little fallout from most of the pans although some of the more shimmery shades will have a nominal amount when you build them up. What is great is that the brand caters for all tastes – if you’re like me there are some amazing bright colours you can work with but if you’re a more natural neutral loving addict there are just as many paler, more subtle shades to experiment with.
  2. The finishes – Makeup Geek does three different eyeshadow finishes, which are matte, foiled and duochrome. All three result in great makeup looks and they all work well together too so you can create multidimensional effects and add real depth to your look. Having tried other brands for foiled and duochrome style eyeshadows, in particular, I would still say Makeup Geek is the best.
  3. The pigmentation – I cannot shout about this enough! Whilst there are now some brands that could compete with Makeup Geek on this point when I started my collection they were hardly any that could compare. Even now not many brands have nailed high-quality pigmentation on all finishes. I have yet to use a shade from my collection that does not give colour pay off and not only that, the colour intensity does not fade during the day. They are also intense enough to use as eyeliners!
  4. The texture – every Makeup Geek eyeshadow feels smooth and buttery to the touch. They are not chalky or dry in any way and you can easily dent one with the tip of your finger if you’re not careful! I actually broke one of my pans accidentally and had to put it back together using rubbing alcohol but this did not in any way affect the quality of the eyeshadow or the texture or colour intensity. Because they are so soft and creamy they are a dream to work with and blending them is so easy. Once applied they also stay in place and don’t melt into one another or slide over the eye due to the weather or the natural oils on the eyelid. As we approach Summer, this is a definite bonus!
  5. The affordability – I have looked at other brands that cater for individual eyeshadow pans, such as Anastasia Beverley Hills, and I have to say I find Makeup Geek to be the most affordable. You can order them from Makeup Geek direct, which is what I do, and even with shipping, it is still very reasonably priced. There are some UK stores that sell them too but they work out more expensive than the actual store. You can also order the pans in sets on the main website so it is more like a palette. I personally love the ability to pick the specific colours I want without paying over the odds for that option.

I hope this post gives you a flavour of the Makeup Geek brand! Definitely have a look at the website because there are so many other great products you can buy, from eyeliners, pigments, glitters right through to lipsticks and highlighters. The brand is cruelty and paraben free as well which I know will appeal to many people now. The other thing I love about the website is that they have an education section and video tutorials so you can learn tips and tricks to improve your makeup artistry!

Thanks for reading lovelies, ask any questions you have below and feel free to share and like! Enjoy what’s left of the Easter weekend!

Glossybox March 2017 – A pleasant surprise!

Hey there makeup lovers,

I hope you’re all well and having a good week so far! As usual, I have been really busy with my full-time job and my blog and social media maintenance, but loving it! I have also ordered a ton of new products which will start arriving soon so very excited about testing some new makeup and skin care items and sharing my thoughts with you!

Glossy Box

One way I find really useful and reasonably inexpensive to try new products is subscription boxes. As mentioned in my previous post, The Little Known Box, I have tested a few subscription boxes and I am constantly looking for new ones to try. Glossybox is one I have used on and off depending on the products included and my budget! I decided to subscribe to the March box after receiving an email from the company with a teaser about the contents.

As is usual with a standard Glossybox, you receive a classic pink box with an info card and the products wrapped in tissue paper and a ribbon:

Inside March’s box were 5 lovely full size Products:

  • Oolution Eye Love
  • Sleek Makeup Eye and Cheek Palette
  • This Works In Transit Camera Close-up
  • GOT2B Styling Primer
  • Fruu Fruitilicious Watermelon Lip Balm

As you can imagine, my favourite item was the Sleek palette! I have not used it yet but I have swatched it for your viewing pleasure!

The colours are so pretty and its a perfect handbag palette for everyday use. As is usually the case with Sleek, the eyeshadows are pigmented and reasonably smooth. There was some fallout when I swatched them but it would be manageable when using in a makeup look. I will probably be using this palette in my makeup soon so look out for the look on Instagram!

The other products

As for the other products, I have used the styling primer, the eye cream and the lip balm and I would recommend all of them. The styling primer was especially good and whilst it felt a little sticky when I put it on damp hair, once my hair dried it made it look and feel thicker and was easy to style. The eye cream was also good and the under eye area felt soft and hydrated after use. However, it did sting when I accidentally got it in my eye so it is definitely a cream to use sparingly and carefully! I will be testing the This Works all in one cream soon as it is meant to act as a moisturiser and primer in one which Victoria Beckham swears by so it can’t be bad!

Overall, I am really pleased with this box! It can be hit or miss with subscription boxes as sometimes the products aren’t things you would want to use. But Glossybox March has provided me with some gems!

That’s it, for now, lovelies! I am going to try to blog more regularly so stay tuned for more reviews and beauty tips! If you have any comments, questions or suggestions for future blog topics you would like to see, leave them below for me and don’t forget to follow and subscribe!

My MUA Luxe Makeup Haul!

Hello, fellow makeup lovers!

I hope you all had a great weekend and Monday has been kind to you! My weekend was pretty good, I had a slight issue with my car exhaust falling off my car but I managed to sort it! I also spent time editing lots of lovely makeup and haul photos to share on my blog and my Instagram so watch out for those in the coming weeks!

My MUA Luxe haul

Recently I have spent a lot of time and money researching new products and makeup I have not tried. One of the brands that was appearing regularly was MUA Luxe. I have bought the odd thing from the brand but never really paid any attention to it….until the new collection came out! There are some gorgeous palettes, highlighters and liquid lipsticks so I thought I would order some of the new and recent collection to try. This is what I ordered in my haul:

From the top, we have 5 of the liquid lipsticks in a collection called Hollywood Kiss. There are 2 other collections as well but I loved this one because the colours will be wearable all year-long.

Here are the swatches:

As you can see, they are all really pigmented and will work on any skin tone and through every season! They are quite ‘wet’ in texture and have a shine as opposed to a matte finish. I think this makes a nice change to all the matte liquid lipsticks on the high street!

The Highlighters

Next, in my haul, I bought the Strobe and Glow Highlighter in Pink Lustre. There is another option too but I decided to try this one as the pink colour is unusual and I have so many golden or champagne toned highlighters that I thought I would try something different. It comes in two parts:

It is hard to tell its a pink shade due to the lighting in my photo but its a really pretty pale pink colour. The bottom layer is a cream highlighter and the top is the powder equivalent. You can wear them on their own or layer them for a more strobe-like effect. I have used this highlighter in one of my recent looks and I have to say it looked really lovely on my skin tone! I layered it to see the difference that made and it’s amazing – you can keep it more natural or build it up and it works perfectly.

As if one highlighter wasn’t enough, I decided to buy another from the range called Undress your Skin highlighting powder in the shade Pearlescent Sheen. There are 9 choices in all so you are spoilt for choice. I chose this one because it has a pale blue tinge to it, which again is something new:

I tried several times to catch the blue tinge in my photo but it’s very tricky! However, when I tested it in one of my looks there is a definite blue coming through and it’s gorgeous! It is easy to intensify if you want to but its pigmented on a couple of light swipes.

The Palettes

Finally, I bought 2 of the palettes in my haul. This was a hard choice as MUA Luxe has brought out a number of different palettes with various colour combinations! I am a sucker for eyeshadow palettes as I love creating new eye looks, but I had to be strict with myself as I am running out of space to store them all! So, I decided on Elysium Shadows and Elysium Elements. I chose these 2 because I love using blue in my looks and didn’t already have a good blue shadow range and the Elements palette is a beautiful combination of delicate pastel colours, unlike any other palette I have. Here’s a close up:

I have not used the Elysium Shadows palette yet but I have used the Elysium Elements and it is so pretty! All the colours are really pigmented and work well in any combination. They blend well too and there’s minimal fallout. I can’t wait to use the blue shades!

Final Thoughts

Overall, I am loving all my MUA Luxe haul purchases! I think the quality of the brand is very good considering how inexpensive everything is! I will definitely be watching out for more MUA Luxe releases in the future and love the fact it is easily accessible in Superdrug too! There aren’t swatches for everything in this blog but if you would like me to swatch anything leave me a comment below and your Instagram name and I will post a photo!

I hope you liked this review. If you don’t already follow or subscribe to my blog I would love it if you did!

Thanks for stopping by!

The After Dark Palette – My Review

Hello makeup lovers!

I hope you have all had a great week! I have been flat-out with my day job and then receiving lots of great new products to try to blog about in the future! My list of posts to write is growing list and there are not enough hours to write them!

The After Dark Palette

So, one of the products I received recently was this amazing Urban Decay After Dark palette. I saw this online weeks ago and have been trying to get my hands on it but it was only available in the USA. Until I found someone selling it on a Facebook buy and sell group! Just as an aside, there are some really great makeup sellers on Facebook groups! If you haven’t already, join some groups and you could get your hands on some lovely products!

I was so excited when the palette finally arrived and immediately used it in one of my looks (soon to be posted on My Makeup Looks pages). I also took some swatches for all of my lovely followers:

The colours are GORGEOUS!! as with all Urban Decay palettes, the shadows are deeply pigmented and so buttery to the touch! They all have a slight shimmer but nothing too full on and they blend like a dream. There was also very little fallout when I used them in my makeup look and the colour strength lasted all day.

Here’s a closer look at the colours:

Even with this photo being as close up as I could get it, it does not do the colours true justice! This is a great palette to have in time for Spring and Summer and the darker shades will look deep and rich in the Autumn and Winter. All in all, it is well worth buying this palette! Having spoken to an Urban Decay counter we should be getting the palette in the bigger UK stores in the next few months. No date has been confirmed that I could find.

Thanks for reading and watch out for a whole bunch of new posts and pages coming soon! Don’t forget to follow, subscribe and share if you like my blog!

Bobbi Brown’s Luxe Eye Edition Palette: My Review

Hey makeup lovers! Hope you’re all enjoying your weekends!

I’ve been very busy this last week so I’ve not been able to blog until now. I’ve been planning lots more to blog about in the coming weeks so stay tuned!

One of my recent makeup purchases is the subject of this blog, the Bobbi Brown Luxe Eye Edition Palette. I saw this first on Sephora but they weren’t allowing it to be shipped to the UK. I had made my peace with the fact that I was never going to be able to obtain it….and then I looked at Selfridges website and saw it was one of their exclusives! Obviously, I then had to buy it!

Bobbi Brown is one of my longstanding favourite brands of makeup and brushes simply because:

  • everything she produces is suited to all skin tones
  • its excellent quality and
  • there is always plenty of choice.

Her brushes are some of my oldest and most used because they last so long without loss of bristles and they are easy to master.

I particularly loved this palette because the eyeshadows are beautiful shades for everyday use and you get 3 different coloured gel liners! Given how much all this would cost individually its great value for money and its something you can use all the time, especially if you like the more natural look.

This is what the palette looks like:

The colours from top left onwards are Cream, Sable, Smoke Shimmer Wash, Malted, Beige Linen Shimmer Wash, Black Topaz metallic, Pewter Chrome and Golden Bronze Metallic. From the names, you can see there some matte shades, some shimmer and some metallic. You then have the three gel liners and a double-ended brush with a fluffy eyeshadow angled brush at one end and a liner brush at the other.

When swatched the eyeshadows look like this:

As the colours are neutral it was hard to make them stand out on my skin tone as swatches. But on the eyes, the colour and pigmentation are very good! I used this palette for my makeup look Bobbi Brown Luxe-urious and was really happy with the colour pay off and blendability of the shades. A couple of the shades do have some fallout compared to the others but this was a minor price to pay for the overall quality. They are designed to compliment each other in various combinations so you will have plenty of fun creating new looks!

The gel eyeliners are no less beautiful. I love that you receive three different colours which everyone will make use of:

The first colour is Bronze Shimmer, the second is Patina Ink and the last is Black Ink. The pigmentation is brilliant! The consistency of the gel is smooth and creamy so they slide onto the eyes with ease. As you get two shades of brown and a black this trio will potentially get you through every season!

To see the colour difference more clearly I swatched them, which was also easy to do!

All three colours are lovely and the black is a true black rather than a very dark grey-black, which I often find in other gel liners.

All in all, I love this palette and I am really glad I was able to purchase it! If you are interested in buying it too, it is still available at Selfridges as an exclusive and even more useful, Bobbi Brown and Sephora have posted a video on YouTube with 4 different tutorials for the palette! If you fancy a watch here’s the link:

Thanks for reading this post, I hope you find it useful! If you don’t use Bobbi Brown products yet, definitely give them a try! Stay tuned for more makeup reviews by following and subscribing using the links on the right!
