Makeup: Outdated Trends That Age You!

Graphic Supplied by Kara Whittaker of Ghergitch.com

When it comes to beauty and makeup, we’re all looking for the tip or trick that can help a multitude of goals. We may want to look younger. We may want to disguise spots or other marks (or even help us not look as tired as we actually feel). We may just want to dress down or dress up for an occasion.

But one thing we definitely do not want? Makeup that makes us look older. And unfortunately, too many people use makeup in a way that they don’t realize will add many years to their face. Take, for example, foundation. Cake it on or use too little, and you can do your skin a big disservice. And it’s also crucial to find the right tone, so no one is actually aware that you’re wearing foundation and so that you complement, with color, the inherent beauty of your face.

What other makeup tricks should you use? This graphic explains some:

Guest Post: Skincare – Winter to Spring!

Guest Post by Caitlin Miller

Our skin changes with the change of seasons. Therefore, we also need to change our skincare routine! We cannot maintain the same skincare methods every season. We need to follow a simple but effective routine to keep our skin perfect!

Winter is the season when days are short and nights are long. We feel cold, and our skin becomes dry and itchy. On the other hand, Spring is entirely different! Our skin will be exposed to more sunlight and environmental factors and naturally more hydrated. So, we need to change our skincare routine. For example, the moisturiser we use in the Winter months will not suit our skin in the Spring!

Here are my top tips for changing skin care while switching from Winter to Spring:

CLEANSING the skin

Cleansing helps us to remove dead skin cells, oil, and dirt from the skin. When Spring comes, using a good cleanser for your skin type will ensure you can show off your skin without having to use makeup and products to mask any blemishes, pigmentation and uneven areas. Cleansing day and night will also ensure that pores are minimised and limit breakouts!

Start exfoliating

In Winter, our skin dries out more quickly and leaves dead skin cells. So, Spring is the time to help skin recover! We all want smooth soft skin and we all know that smooth skin is the key element to helping us look beautiful. Scrubbing helps to clean our skin of old cells and clogged pores. It also helps us to increase the glow of our skin giving a more clear and radiant result! Many exfoliators also contain anti-ageing ingredients, an added bonus! However, you shouldn’t exfoliate more than twice a week as this can stress the skin.

Moisturising the skin

Moisturiser seems a simple thing to use, but it helps us in many ways. A lightweight moisturiser in the Spring will keep the skin looking hydrated and fresh and allows it to breathe without adding to any oil production. It can also be mixed with foundation to create a tinted moisturiser, avoiding the need for heavy foundation!

Apply (and re-apply) sunscreen

With the weather changes, our skin may suffer from peeling and redness as it adapts. Sunscreen can help protect us from this as well as prevent sunburn as the weather hots up! Sunscreen will also protect us from the risk of various types of skin cancer. Luckily, many face and makeup products already contain sun protection so if you haven’t already checked this it’s worth doing so and investing in a few key items if needed! An SPF factor of 50 is ideal – don’t forget to protect your lips as well!

Nature has a lovely relationship with our skin. In Winter we feel uncomfortable as our skin becomes dry. On the other hand, at the time of Spring, we can feel the extra oil in our skin. So, we need to ensure that we balance our skin needs which will result in glowing, naturally youthful skin!

GUEST POST: Date Night Ready- From Head to Toe!

Guest Post by Brigitte Evans of High Style Life – Getting ready for a big date!

In the last few days, you have done all the necessary prep activities, from visiting a beautician to intensifying your gym routine. Not to mention getting that perfect LBD with lace embellishments. Now it is time to get ready and add some final touches so as to look great and feel confident on your date night.

So let’s start.

Relaxation routine

Fill up the bathtub, add some lavender oil and just relax. You can opt for a gentle scrub and top off the experience with a nice glass of red wine and some scented candles. Now that you have taken the time to just relax and enjoy a soothing bath the next step is applying lotion and other products so as to feel fresh and to make your skin feel smooth. Opt for neutral scented lotions and cream as to avoid mixing too many fragrances since you will be also putting on a stronger perfume for the date night.

The perfect hair

Gentle flowy locks, or smooth straight hair, whichever style you choose the key is to go for that romantic feel. And if you are not feeling great about your volume you can always get some clip in hair extensions and improve the overall look of your hair. They will blend in perfectly and he won’t even notice them, all he will see is your beautiful rich hair gently touching your face over a candlelit dinner. A great hairstyle boosts our confidence and that is exactly what we need in order to have a successful, carefree date night.

Those eyes, those lips

Makeup is essential for feeling great on a date night. But be careful, going overboard when it comes to amounts is never a good option. Instead, choose tempered tones that accentuate your natural beauty. When it comes to eyes, a smokey eye is the most romantic option while a red lip is the detail that will elevate your entire look. In addition, make sure you choose the right shade of eyeshadow to compliment your eye colour, the smoky eye effect looks great even with deep green or dark maroon tones. In this case try to restrain yourself from putting on lip gloss, as it can get quite sticky and ruin a romantic kiss.

The little details

As they say, the devil is in the details, so when we said from head to toe it is exactly right. Your manicure needs to be romantic and subtle. Overstated nails are not something you want to have on a date night. So stay away from neon colours and sparkles. And the same goes for your toes, especially if you opt for open toe pumps, light neutral colours are ideal for this occasion. Your dress and make up will do the wowing, not every part of your body needs to be in the spotlight. Don’t forget a subtle necklace to accentuate the bust line and pair of soft earrings to tie the whole look together. You will be stunning.

Finally – the outfit

There is no question about it, a little black dress is everyone’s favourite date night choice. It can be paired up with a stunning pair of stilettos and a light silk scarf. In case you feel quite bold you can opt for a little red dress that is sure to be an ultimate show stopper. The main thing is to feel confident in any outfit you choose so that you can oose positive energy and strength. Don’t forget, opt for knee length, you don’t want to spend the night pulling on your dress.  It is always a great option to layer up slightly, in case there is a romantic walk at the end of the night. You wouldn’t want something like a lower temperature to spoil the romance.

There you have it, you are now ready for that perfect date night. The one thing that is bound to make it memorable is your self-esteem and positive attitude. If we feel good about ourselves we are able to create a great atmosphere, spark vivid conversation ad simply enchant the person we are with. And all this prep is just for that so that we can feel great about ourselves on that special night!

Thanks for reading this guest post – hope you enjoyed it!

My TK Maxx Finds – A Treasure Trove for Beauty Lovers!

Hello, makeup fans!

As it is already approaching March and the onset of Spring and Spring makeup changes, I thought it would be helpful to share my thoughts about a great place to find beauty products – TK Maxx! It was on a trip to Newmarket visiting one of my closest friends that I discovered how amazing the beauty section of TK Maxx actually is! Since then, I periodically visit my local TK Maxx stores to see what new beauty finds they have in stock. Often, they will carry well-known medium to high-end brands for excellent prices, so it is always worth a trip!

On this occasion, I found some lovely products that were too good to miss! Here’s what I picked up:

  • Loreal’s Colour Riche La Palette Gold
  • Max Studio’s Eye Companion
  • Nyx High Voltage Lipsticks
  • Flawless Mini Makeup Blenders
  • Isabella Scott’s Highlight & Contour Brushes
  • Revlon’s ColorStay Under Eye Concealer

The Colour Riche Palette

I had seen this palette in other stores and couldn’t decide whether I really wanted it! When I came across it in TK Maxx for less than full price, I decided it was a sign and purchased it! It’s a slim palette containing 10 eyeshadows in jewel tones which is perfect for the Winter. Each eyeshadow is smooth and reasonably creamy, and the pigmentation is pretty good! The colours apply and blend well although there is some fallout. They will last for a few hours without fading or bleeding around the eye though. Overall, it’s a decent addition to any makeup kit and you can create quite a few looks just from this one palette.

Max Studio

I had never seen or heard of Max Studio before this trip to TK Maxx but having visited other stores, it is a regularly stocked brand. I liked this palette because of the neutral colour selection and its size. The palette also came with an eye look inspiration leaflet which is always a useful addition to any palette! The eyeshadows are actually very good quality and buttery! The colour pay off is also good, as can be seen from the swatches. There is very little kickback when using them and it’s the ideal palette for creating simple daytime looks or a subtle smoky eye. I will definitely try other products by Max Studio now I have tested this one!

Nyx’s High Voltage Lipsticks

These lipsticks were a fab find! There were a number of colours to pick from in store, but I chose these 4 as they were super pigmented and perfect for all occasions! Nyx is a well-known, affordable and popular brand which can be found in many places now, but TK Maxx had reduced the price of these lipsticks even further! The texture of each one is so soft and creamy, like a lip balm, but the colour is opaque once applied. Your lips stay soft and hydrated throughout wearing and reapplication is only needed after eating. All in all, they are lovely and due to their smaller size, they are great lipsticks on the go!

Mini Makeup Blenders

I love mini blenders like these! They are perfect for applying correctors, concealers and powders on the smaller, harder to reach areas of the face! My main use for them is under the eyes and on my T-Zone. I was thrilled to get 4 of them in this pack and whilst they aren’t the traditional Beauty Blender mini sponges they are just as good. The texture is reasonably soft, so they can be manipulated to apply in tricky spaces. As they are so small they are also easy to clean and take very little time to dry! I have a ton of these mini blenders now and highly recommend trying them if you never have.

Isabella Scott Makeup Brushes

These brushes came together in a set. I had never heard of Isabella Scott brushes before buying these and have not seen any others by her since, but I loved the shape of these brushes, so I bought them.

The Highlighter Brush

The first one is the highlighter brush. It has a C curved brush head which is designed to fit over the tops of the cheekbones. The second brush is the contour brush which has a wave shape to fit the bottom of the cheekbones and the hollows of the cheeks. Out of the 2, the contour brush works best. The bristles on both are quite soft but retain their shape, however trying to ensure there is product on the entire highlighter brush is tricky because of the C shape! It does fit the upper cheekbones nicely though.

The Contour Brush

The contour brush is much easier to use and when you dip the brush into a powder contour the powder will distribute across the entire brush head. When you apply the contour, the shape of the brush head fits the face’s shape well and all you need to do after the application is ensure there are no harsh edges. That being said, I would not use the entire brush head if using a cream contour as the result would be too heavy and difficult to blend out.

Generally, I like these brushes and they are sturdy and well made. However, if I could choose which one to buy rather than the set, I would only buy the contour brush!

Revlon’s Under Eye Concealer

I love a good concealer! Revlon makes great makeup, so I trusted that this concealer would be good quality and I was right! It comes in pen form, which I especially like from a portability perspective, and is a thick creamy consistency. You twist the bottom to distribute product to the sponge applicator head and you don’t need a lot to cover both eyes. It blends really well and also brightens the area slightly, always a bonus! I have used it alone and with other concealers and in both cases, it provides decent coverage and does not crease easily after application. This is a great item to keep in your handbag for quick makeup application and touch-ups!

Final Thoughts

TK Maxx did me proud on this occasion! I love everything I bought and paid a lot less than I would have in normal high street stores! If you have never thought of buying beauty products from TK Maxx before, you really should have a look! They also carry amazing skin, body and hair care ranges from well-known brands so why not pop to your local brand and treat yourself?

The Blogger Recognition Award – My 5th Nomination!

Hi, there beautiful people!

Sorry, I have been slow in writing a new post, its been a crazy and challenging couple of months – I did not realise self-hosting could be so time-consuming! I’m still developing the new site so bear with me!

That being said, I really wanted to write this post as it is long overdue. A little while ago I received my 5th blogger award nomination for the Blogger Recognition Award! I only started blogging in January 2017 and I’ve already received my 5th award, for which I am very grateful. The lovely blogger that nominated me was Altea Leszczynska and her blog site can be found here. Her site is amazing and her art and photography is beautiful!

The Award Rules

As with all awards, there are rules I have to follow! These are:

  1. I must thank the blogger who nominated me and provide a link to their blog
  2. I must write a message to show the award.
  3. I must write a brief story on how I started my blog
  4. I must give two pieces of advice to new bloggers
  5. I must select 15 bloggers to pass this award on to
  6. I must comment on each of their blogs to let them know they have been nominated for this award and provide a link to this post.

I’ve thanked Altea above and definitely recommend you click on the link to her blog!

My story

If you have followed me from the beginning you will know what inspired me to start my blog already but for those of you that aren’t familiar, I deliberated about blogging for some time before I finally bit the bullet and started this year!

My blog started as a pure beauty blog. This stemmed from my love of makeup and the beauty industry, which had grown since I had my wedding makeup done by an exceptional makeup and hair artist. Makeup is like art for me and allows me to be creative in ways my day job as a solicitor does not! Blogging is also another outlet for me and I am still learning so much!

I decided after taking the plunge to self host, that I wanted to share more than just my love for the beauty world. There are so many beautiful things in life and expanding my blog’s niche will allow me to share those things and my feelings about them! My blog will still be focused on makeup and beauty in the main but I will be throwing in lifestyle and spiritual posts along the way too!

advice for new bloggers

Even though I am still a new blogger and learning myself, there are things I can pass on to new bloggers entering this exciting world!

  1. Don’t feel the need to compare or compete with other bloggers. Everyone has their own message to impart and their own creativity so just be yourself, design your blog the way you want to and don’t be intimidated that other bloggers have massive followings and post all the time! Do what suits you and your style!
  2. Write posts when you feel inspired. I know that when I have tried to write a post simply because I needed to meet a deadline or schedule it wasn’t my best work. When I wrote posts because I was motivated and excited the words flowed easier and the finished post was well written and engaging! Blogging is supposed to be fun and inspiring as well as a business for some of us so write when you feel you can engage your followers.

My nominations

I follow so many amazing blogs now it is hard to choose only 15! But, I have narrowed it down the following:

  1. Island Beauty Junkie – a well designed blog devoted to beauty and skincare
  2. OLITA – an elegant blog dedicated to everything lovely, from makeup to fashion and lifestyle
  3. Jay Colby – a truly motivational blog covering various aspects of life
  4. UGHMANGO – a well rounded lifestyle blog
  5. Ashley Beth Beauty – a lovely beauty and fashion blog
  6. Adryana’s Blog – another visually pretty and well written beauty blog
  7. Hunnyy – a classicly designed but fun beauty blog
  8. Emily X Online – a beautiful well thought out lifestyle, beauty and fitness blog
  9. The Emma Edit – a vintage feel lifestyle blog covering, beauty, fashion and recipes
  10. All Things Glitter – another chic beauty and lifestyle blog
  11. Jessica Riga – A gorgeous beauty blog with great imagery
  12. Unboxing Beauty – a blog all about beauty boxes!
  13. The T Zone – And another fun beauty blog!
  14. Budding Regardless – An inspiring lifestyle blog
  15. Faded Rouge – A retro styled all encompassing lifestyle blog

I will make sure each of the lovely bloggers above knows about my nomination and I hope you will check out their blogs because they each offer something unique and interesting! Can’t wait to see their responses to my nomination!

I hope you’ve enjoyed this post! I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments and don’t forget to follow me and subscribe to future posts!

The Mystery Blogger Award – so pleased!

Hi makeup addicts!

I hope you’re all well and enjoying Summer! I have been super busy as usual but have finally found time to write this post which is long overdue! Some weeks ago I was nominated for the Mystery Blogger Award and I have been meaning to write a post about it but have had very little time to get to it – until now!

These are the rules:

  1. Put the award logo/image on your blog post.
  2. List the rules.
  3. Thank whoever nominated you and provide a link to their blog.
  4. Mention the creator of the award and provide a link.
  5. Tell readers 3 things about yourself.
  6. Answer the questions the blogger gave to you.

  8. Notify your nominees by commenting on their blog.
  9. Ask nominees 5 questions of your choice (One weird/funny question).
  10. Share link to your best posts.

Who Nominated Me:

I was nominated for this award by Beauty Blurbs & Babbles whose blog is lovely and a definite must read! Thank you so much for the nomination! I’ve only been blogging since the start of 2017 and I have already received 3 awards, this being my 4th! It is great to know that fellow bloggers and followers enjoy my work enough to nominate me, it makes the effort worthwhile!

What is the Mystery Blogger Award?

The Mystery Blogger Award was created by Okoto Enigma. In her own words, it is an award “for amazing bloggers with ingenious posts. Their blog not only captivates; it inspires and motivates. They are one of the best out there, and they deserve every recognition they get. This award is also for bloggers who find fun and inspiration in blogging; and they do it with so much love and passion”. Check out her original post about this award here.

So, in keeping with the rules, here are 3 things about myself:

  1. I am actually a solicitor by day – beauty blogging and makeup artistry are my creative outlets and hopefully my combined future career!
  2. As well as being obsessed with the beauty industry, I am addicted to cats and food! I would happily run a cat sanctuary and would love to eat in every Michelin Star restaurant in the world.
  3. I am a big optimist but with a healthy dose of realism on the side!

Questions by Beauty Blurbs & Babbles:

  1. What made you start blogging?
  2. What is your favourite beauty product and why?
  3. If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go?
  4. What was your favourite childhood cartoon growing up?
  5. If you were given one minute to make a positive impression what would you do?

These are my answers:

  1. Starting a beauty blog had been on my bucket list for ages and I finally put pen to paper (or PC!) this year. I am obsessed with makeup, skin care and beauty generally and love sharing my knowledge and advising other people.
  2. This is a hard question because it changes! Currently I am loving false eyelashes! I have mastered how to apply them and there are so many styles that the possibilities for creating different eye looks is endless!
  3. Hawaii! I have wanted to go there for ages and I am hoping it will be one of my next holidays.
  4. Another tough question! I loved Bugs Bunny, Tom and Jerry and the Pink Panther but I also loved the X-Men!
  5. Smile, be bubbly and friendly

My nominees are:

  1. LifewithMrsT
  2. EmilyClareBeauty
  3. HeySharonoox
  4. KeeleyBella

Arbonne Skincare – My Mini Review

Hi there, beauty fans!

I hope you are all well, this post has been a little delayed as I have been really busy with other projects – check out my last post here to find out what I have been up to in the last few weeks!

So, in this post I want to promote the brand Arbonne! On my journey through the blogger world I met a lovely lady called Danielle Clark who is an Arbonne Consultant and she very kindly offered me the skincare samples below to test. I came across Arbonne a few years ago too and at that time I tested a makeup primer, which was gorgeous, a body oil which I still use now and facial exfoliating pads which had a great effect on my skin! When Danielle offered me the chance to test the skincare range I was really keen to, so I could see if the brand was as good as I remembered!

Arbonne Samples

All these samples are from the RE9 range which is their leading anti-ageing range.

The collection contains:

  • A facial cleanser
  • A regenerating toner
  • An intensive serum
  • A corrective eye cream
  • A restorative day cream
  • An extra moisture restorative day cream
  • A night repair cream

Given the sizes of the samples I used everything up within a few days, however this was enough time to gain a flavour for the quality and effect on my skin! My initial thoughts for each product are:

  • The Cleanser

I used this every morning for a few days. The cleanser is a gel like consistency and felt lovely on the skin, leaving it feeling soft and clean afterwards with no tightness.

  • The Toner

As with most toners this was a clear liquid which I used after the cleanser on a cotton pad. I did not need a lot to sweep over my entire face and my skin remained soft and hydrated afterwards which was great as many toners can be too astringent and leave the skin too dry and tight.

  • The Serum

I love using serums on my skin and definitely think they are important as you age to keep the skin supple and nourished. This serum was lovely and light but left my skin feeling hydrated and smooth. I also didn’t need too much to cover my face fully.

  • The Eye Cream

The eye cream was one of favourite products from the samples! It was rich and thick and soaked into the delicate eye skin really well. My eye area felt deeply moisturised afterwards and I could see the area brighten after use! A definite must try!

  • The Everyday Day Cream

This cream was quite thick but absorbed into the skin well and there was no leftover residue or film after use, which for me is important as my skin type is oily combination. My skin felt plump and soft afterwards and looked fresh and smooth and whilst I did not have enough product to fully test if it had longer term anti – ageing effects I would be very surprised if it didn’t!

  • The Extra Moisture Day Cream

I used this only on days where the weather was colder as I think this cream would be best used in the colder months. It was very thick and rich and very moisturising! As with the everyday cream, it did not leave my skin feeling greasy but I could tell I had used a richer cream from the way my skin felt. I would certainly consider using this in the Winter when my skin can be very dry and rough.

  • The Night Cream

Looking after my skin at night is very important to me and is also a lovely night-time treat! I have used lots of night time skin care products and I really liked this cream – it was quite buttery to the touch but absorbed well and my skin felt great the following morning too!

All in all, I was very impressed with the Arbonne RE9 range. Everything was good quality, had a pleasant fragrance and did not make my skin react or breakout in any way. With continued use I can believe the products would have a positive effect on the skin and keep it healthy, smooth and soft. I cannot comment on whether it would also tackle any fine lines and wrinkles simply because I would need to trial everything for much longer but based on my experience I don’t see why it would not improve them in the long-term. I would definitely think about buying the full size products once I have run out of my existing skincare products! If you would like to know more about Arbonne you can check out Danielle’s link here.

I hope you enjoyed reading this review and will consider trying Arbonne in the future! As always, would love to read your comments and do share and follow my blog if you don’t already!

See you again soon,

Dips xxx

Being a Beauty Blogger – My journey so far!

Hi, there fellow beauty fans!

I am so sorry I have not been blogging for a few weeks! Between my day job and all the lovely things I am about to tell you about, I have had very little time to focus on writing! But, as much as I hate not posting every week, I am really happy to be sharing what I have been up to which will hopefully explain the delay!

This post is going to be different to other posts. It’s going to be a whistle-stop tour of everything that has been happening in my blogging journey so far, particularly in the last few weeks! There will be a few links to check out, (which are not affiliate links) and I hope you’ll click on them and see where my time and effort has been going.

So, the last time I posted was mid-May, after I had reviewed a whole range of lovely Body Shop products! I hope you all enjoyed that post as much as I enjoyed writing it – if you didn’t read it you can check it out here.

Since then, I have had so many things going on I don’t even know where to start! Here goes:

  • blogging on ReallyRee

I am really proud to say I have become a contributor to the blog ReallyRee! This blog is huge in the beauty blogging world and I have subscribed to it for a while. Never did I think when I started blogging, that I would be able to contribute to it myself! I contacted the blog in the hope that I would be able to learn some valuable information about beauty blogging and was then invited to submit a blog to them to decide whether I was contributor material….and I was! So far I have submitted two posts, one is already live and one is soon to be! You can check out my first post about Lilly Lashes here.

IMG_20170409_154553

  • blogging on Greenide

On top of that, I have also been invited to blog regularly for a digital magazine called Greenide! I was approached by the magazine through Instagram and like ReallyRee, they asked me to prepare a blog for them which then led to me being asked to be a permanent blogger for them! I have written a few posts for them already, which I have listed below so you can have a read!  They are also looking for bloggers generally to contribute to the magazine so if any of you are bloggers and would like more exposure leave a comment on this post and I will put you in touch with my contact!  Here are my posts – The Little Known BoxThe Blackhead Suction RemoverMy Weekend Beauty HaulBrand Focus: Charlotte Tilbury and The Glossy Box.

  • Digital Miss

Also this month, I was included in the May edition of another digital magazine called Digital Miss! This is a new online magazine that used social media to ask for blog submissions from bloggers which the editors then whittled down to their favourites. Those favourites were then included in the May launch! You can find my post here and the magazine is now looking for June contributors so if you are interested go to the site and apply!

  • Beauty Royale

Through Instagram again, I have been invited to an interview in London regarding my makeup work! The company is called Beauty Royale and they approached me to be one of their first interviewees! I am attending the interview this coming weekend and I am very excited – watch out for my update once I have done it!

17495276_1828213200836959_7213616032848543744_n

  • Makeup Artistry

In addition to my blogging developments, I have also been increasing my makeup and hair artistry work, which I am loving! As well as booking individual clients for hair and makeup, most recently, I was asked to be a makeup and hair artist at the Miss Vietnam beauty contest in Birmingham, which was hard work but so much fun and the contestants were all so beautiful but very friendly and down to earth. Here’s a sneak peek of the looks I created, which I will be posting on my Instagram soon!

  • IMATS

If you are a beauty obsessive like me then you may have attended IMATS 2017 and the Beauty UK show – I attended both and they were amazing! I will be writing a separate blog for both shows but I have to say they were both very enjoyable and I bought some gorgeous makeup which I will review in due course! If you have never been to either show you need to, IMATS is not cheap at £45 a ticket but if you are a makeup artist or student you can apply to go for free, and the Beauty UK show is free if you book in advance!

  • Selfridges

More locally, Selfridges Birmingham held a beauty haul event for an evening and I was lucky enough to get a ticket! These events happen a handful of times during the year and are always good fun, with demonstrations and makeover opportunities, free canapes and drinks and a goody bag! I bought a few items during the evening which I will review in separate posts but if you have never heard of these events, sign up to Selfridges newsletter and you will then receive an email each time they arrange one! Harvey Nichols also arranges similar evenings – I am waiting to hear about their next one!

Beauty-Stage-online-

  • Flipboard

Finally, I have created my own magazine to promote this blog on Flipboard! If you have never heard of Flipboard, it is an online magazine whereby you can design the content of your feed so that it is tailored to your likes and tastes. I did not know until recently that you can also create your own magazine on Flipboard so I decided to try it and also invited some other beauty bloggers to collaborate on it! It was really easy to set up and is another way to promote my blog to a different audience! You can take a look at the magazine here and if any of you are beauty bloggers and would like to be considered as a contributor, leave me a comment on this post with your blog and contact details and I will come back to you!

Other Developments

These are the main things I have been working on but there have been lots of smaller developments as well, such as setting up a domain ready for me to switch from a free to a fully self hosted site in the near future (which will be AllThingsBeauty.co.uk), being offered discounts codes by companies in the beauty and fashion industries such as Mikasa Beauty and Mirina Collections, being invited to Pinterest Group Boards to share my blogs and making contacts with people in the modelling industry to broaden my network and makeup artistry opportunities! Even though I have only been blogging for 5 months I feel like I have been blessed with so many opportunities and I am hoping it is a sign of things to come!

I hope you found this post a fun read and I also hope it inspired you to try new things and look for opportunities wherever you can! I would like to say thanks to all of you for following me and subscribing – I wouldn’t be writing at all if it weren’t for you lovely people supporting me! Do leave me your comments and feel free to share, like and subscribe to email – I will be posting again very soon!

The Body Shop Beauty & Skin Care – My Review

Hi, beauty fans!

I can’t believe it is already May 2017! This year is flying by but so far it has been a positive one! I have already been presented with some very exciting opportunities and I have met some lovely people – long may it continue!

The Body Shop

One such opportunity I was given was to review a selection of skin care products and makeup from The Body Shop! One of my old school friends is now a Body Shop Consultant and thought I would be interested to try some of the recent ranges so she kindly sent me some samples. In return, I offered to do a review of the products and now after a few weeks of testing everything I am finally able to write this post!

I have loved The Body Shop for years, mainly for their body care and the lovely Christmas ranges they always create each year! I had never really tested the skin care or the makeup so this was a real eye-opener, for me! This is what I received:

On the left are the following products:

  • Lip and Cheek Stain in Vineyard Peach
  • A Himalayan Charcoal Purifying Glow Mask sachet
  • An Oils of Life Intensely Revitalising Facial Oil sachet
  • A Drops of Youth Youth Bouncy Sleeping Mask sachet
  • Drops of Youth (Facial) Concentrate

On the right are samples of the following:

  • Amazonian Acai Mask
  • Instablur
  • Ethiopian Honey Mask
  • Chinese Ginseng and Rice Mask
  • All in One BB Cream
  • Drops of Light Day Cream
  • Vitamin C Liquid Peel
  • Drops of Youth Youth Cream
  • Oils of Life Revitalising Cream
  • Drops of Youth Liquid Peel
  • British Rose Mask

You can imagine how much fun I have had trying all these lovely samples! I managed to use everything a few times each to get a real feel for the products and how they affected my skin, and my review of each is below:

  • Lip and Cheek Stain

This product comes in 9 shades – I tested Vineyard Peach, which was fortunate for me as I love peach makeup! The actual stain is a creamy texture and very easy to blend into the skin. The colour is quite pigmented in the bottle but once on the skin, it provides a wash of colour rather than a super intense look. It can be built up to achieve a deeper more noticeable blush but I actually liked that it gave a more subtle natural glow. It has the same effect on the lips and doesn’t dry them out, but I preferred it as a blusher simply because I like my lip colour to be more obvious.

  • Himalayan Charcoal Purifying Glow Mask

I was very excited to try this mask as I have heard so many good things about it and about Charcoal in general. It’s unlike any other mask I have ever tried! It contains bamboo charcoal, tea tree oil and green tea leaves and the texture was a slightly loose, grainy but non-abrasive paste. The fragrance was pleasant and it doesn’t completely dry once applied but won’t easily move or drip either. I applied it for up to 5-10 minutes and then washed off and my skin looked and felt gorgeous! It was smooth, plump and soft and brighter than before. I got 3 uses from the sachet and the result each time was very good – I am sure if I was to use it as part of my regular skincare routine it would have long-lasting positive effects!

  • Oils of Life Revitalising Facial Oil

This range is designed to provide radiance to the skin. Everything contains 3 seed oils – Black Cumin seed oil, Camellia seed oil and Rosehip seed oil, as well as essential oils and olive oil. It has a strong, slightly spiced scent and feels lovely on the skin. It absorbs easily and the skin feels soft and nourished afterwards. I am a big fan of facial oils and this one is a definite must try. As you don’t need more than a couple of drops at a time, I was able to use this oil a few times morning and night and I definitely noticed how great my skin felt and looked.

  • Drops of Youth Youth Bouncy Sleeping Mask

When I saw this amongst the samples I was so happy, as I love trying products that work overnight! This mask is designed to fight the first signs of ageing and provide plump fresh skin. The mask is a milky colour in a gel-cream formula and it smooths over the skin beautifully. You don’t feel like you’re wearing a mask at all! It isn’t sticky or wet once applied so my face didn’t stick to my pillows or bed linen and when I woke up my skin felt gorgeous! Even after I washed my face my skin remained soft and full. This was one of my favourite products out of the samples and I highly recommend trying it!

  • Drops of Youth Concentrate

Another great product from the Drops of Youth range! This Concentrate is like a facial serum, in a milky loose gel formula and you only a need a pea-sized amount to cover your whole face. It absorbs quickly and gives the skin a slightly blurred effect! This is great if you want to reduce the appearance of pores and fine lines! As the sample I was sent was a good size, I am still using this and I love it!

  • Amazonian Acai Mask

I love face masks! Trying all the sample masks was skincare heaven for me! This mask almost feels like a scrub as it is slightly grainy! It smells really fruity and smooths onto the skin as a gel. I left it on for 5 minutes in each use and afterwards my skin felt fresh and soft and almost dewy! Its designed to invigorate the skin and it certainly did that!

  • Instablur

This product does exactly what the name implies! It is a soft clear putty which once applied blurs lines, pores and skin blemishes, leaving the skin very smooth and soft, ready for foundation. You can also wear it without makeup and it has the same effects. I normally use Benefit Porefessional to hide my pores etc. but I would consider switching to this now I have tested it!

  • Ethiopian Honey Mask

This mask smells and feels heavenly! It looks like it could be actual honey and has a definite honey scent, warm and comforting. It glides onto the skin as a thick gel, remains moist and after leaving on the skin for 5 minutes it washes off to leave radiant moisturised skin. If you suffer from dry skin it would be a great mask to replenish the moisture in the skin.

  • Chinese Ginseng and Rice Mask

This was by far my favourite mask! It looks more like a scrub than a normal face mask but it is designed to exfoliate the skin as a mask. It has a creamy consistency with very fine rice grains and when I tried it I massaged it into the skin before letting it set, just to get some extra exfoliation from it! As with the other masks, I let it sit for 5 minutes and then washed it off and my skin felt simply amazing! So smooth and soft, more so than any of the other masks I tried and the texture of my skin looked and felt like it did when I was a child! This mask is definitely going on my wishlist!

  • All in One BB Cream

This was probably my least favourite product. I don’t wear BB creams generally as I prefer foundations, so this product was already fighting an uphill battle! To be fair to the product, it does do what it is supposed to in that it adapted to my skin tone well and I did not need a huge amount to evenly cover my face. My skin did look more even after application as well. However I like my base to provide medium to full coverage which this did not do, not surprisingly as a BB cream, and I also did not like the smell of the cream, which was almost medicinal.

  • Drops of Light Day Cream

The Drops of Light range is designed to brighten the skin and diminish dark spots. The effects become more apparent after a few weeks of use so I would need to keep using this product to determine if it does brighten the skin. However, after using it a few times I did find that it moisturised my skin well and left my skin dewy and smelling great! You can tell from the appearance of the cream itself that it has brightening qualities so I would expect that in time it would have the effect it states but I would have to keep testing it to be sure!

  • Vitamin C Liquid Peel

Peels are another skin care product I really love to use! After testing Cure Natural Aqua Gel, I realised how amazing a face peel can be so I was excited to try the Peels in the samples. This Vitamin C Peel was my favourite of the two I tested and my second favourite product from all the samples. It has a fresh citrus smell and turns from a gel into a liquid when applied to the skin. According to the description, you can let this product sit on the skin and then peel it off however I found it worked far better if you gently rubbed the liquid over the skin – you could see the dead skin flaking away! After rinsing the skin, it felt soft, fresh and smooth and looked brighter and less textured. This is another item I will be adding to my wishlist!

  • Drops of Youth Youth Cream

This cream is luxurious, thick and rich. It’s super moisturising, has a lovely comforting scent and leaves the skin feeling deeply hydrated and plump. As it is so rich, you don’t need much so I still have some of the sample left and will use it when my skin needs an extra dose of moisture.

More Info: Drops of Youth Youth Cream

  • Oils of Life Revitalising Cream

This is another thick nourishing day cream. As with the other Oils of Life sample, it has a lovely slightly spicy fragrance and whilst it feels oily on your fingers once applied to the face it absorbs well and there is no oily residue. The skin feels soft and supple after use and after continued use, you should see a reduction in the visible signs of ageing. I cannot vouch for that yet but just from my limited use, I would definitely consider buying it in the future.

More Info: Oils of Life Revitalising Cream

  • Drops of Youth Liquid Peel

This was the second peel I sampled, from the Drops of Youth range, however, I did not find this one nearly as effective as the Vitamin C Liquid Peel. To start I did not like the smell of the product which was very strong and almost astringent. I also found that whilst it did remove dead skin the result was not as noticeable as with the Vitamin C peel and I found that some of the peel was difficult to remove, especially where I had tiny facial hairs. If I had to choose which to buy the Vitamin C Peel would win hands down.

  • British Rose Mask

This was the final mask I tested. As the name states, it’s all about the rose and should give you dewy plumped skin after use. It smells gorgeous and has visible rose extracts in the gel. After leaving it on my skin for 5 minutes and rinsing, my skin did feel fresh and soft but I have to say it was no more noticeable than any of the other masks. What I liked about this mask was the scent, which lingered on the skin even after removing it. If you love the rose scent then you’ll love this!

And that is the end of my Body Shop samples review! I have loved trying so many lovely products and luckily my skin has reacted well to everything given how many different things I have tried! It has also been great learning more about The Body Shop ranges and I have to say I would happily buy skincare from there now!

I know this is a particularly long post, but I wanted to make sure I covered every single product in enough detail to help all of you decide whether to spend your hard-earned money on them! Hopefully, I have done that and you’ve enjoyed reading this – if you have, I’d love for you to like and share the post and if you have any questions about the products feel free to leave them in the comments!

See you back here soon!

Sunshine Blogger Award – So grateful!

Hi, there beauty lovers,

I hope you’re all well and enjoying Spring! My apologies that this post has been delayed slightly – I’ve been unwell for the last few days and just didn’t have the energy to sit and write. I am slowly starting to feel better now and really wanted to upload this post to show my appreciation for being nominated for the Sunshine Blogger Award!

The Award Rules

I was nominated for this award by Travel Foodie Mom, whose blog is lovely! Thank you so much for the nomination!

sunshine

The Sunshine Blogger Award is given to bloggers by other bloggers who are creative, positive, and inspiring. Once nominated, the blogger is required to write a post in which they:

  • Thank the blogger who nominated them and link back to their blog.
  • Answer the 11 questions asked by the blogger who nominated them
  • Nominate 11 other blogs and give them 11 new questions to answer.
  • Notify your nominees and display the Sunshine Blogger Award logo in your post.

These are the questions I have been asked to answer:

  1. When did you start blogging?
  2. How were you inspired to start a blog?
  3. What is the most valuable thing you’ve learned from blogging?
  4. Which social media platforms can we find you on?
  5. What do you do to unwind and relax?
  6. If you were to press play on your playlist, what song would come on?
  7. Where is your favourite travel location?
  8. What is your favourite food?
  9. What quote do you live by?
  10. If you only had 24 hours left to live, what would you do?
  11. What is one interesting fact about you that most people may not know about?

Here are my answers!

  1. I started my blog in January 2017, after a good 12 months of procrastinating about it!
  2. I never really thought about blogging until one of my friends started one some time ago. This planted the seed and then as I started to follow other blogs I realised it was something I could also do! I have had a growing enthusiasm for makeup and beauty and I love reading other people’s views as well as sharing my own knowledge so I thought blogging would allow me to embrace all three!
  3. There are so many things I have learnt from starting a blog but if I had to focus on one, it would be the importance of balance between having a great blog and a great life. I love working on my blog and there are so many things I want to progress, especially as I have now recently set up my own self-hosted site. But I have also realised that the blogging world can be very consuming and it is easy to forget about the other parts of life that are enjoyable. Because of this, I have started to make time to relax and take a break from work, blogging and social media so I can just be.
  4. I am on most social media platforms, although I am sure there are some I have missed! I am on Instagram, Twitter, Pinterest, Tumblr, Facebook, Bloglovin and a few others. All my links can be found here.
  5. I love to have a glass of red wine and watch a movie or a repeat of Friends or sometimes I like to curl up and read a good book or glossy mag. I also love watching YouTube tutorials!
  6. Right now the song that would play is Truffle Butter by Nicki Minaj! I love dancing and this song always gets me moving!
  7. There are 2 places I really love to visit – St Maxime in France and Milan in Italy. Milan especially is a home away from home, I feel safe and relaxed when there and I can’t get enough of the food, sights and shopping!!
  8. I am such a foodie so this is a really hard question to answer! I love so many dishes but nothing really beats my mother’s lasagna! It’s her signature dish and she makes it with lamb instead of beef – it’s delicious!
  9. I have a few favourite quotes such as carpe diem, hope for the best, plan for the worst, Joey (Dips) doesn’t share food! but the one I try to live by the most is appreciate everything and expect nothing. Expectations can be very destructive and are often too high to be met!
  10. 24 hours is not long but I would want to make sure I saw all my immediate family and my best friend, I would want to speak to my closest friends if I could not see them, I would make sure I told certain people in my life how much I love them and I would watch my favourite movie with my favourite wine and food and my three beautiful cats before watching the sunset.
  11. I used to be an Indian classical dancer and performed around the UK, on TV and at the Hippodrome!

  6. Infatuatedbybeauty
  7. Soobeautis
  8. BeautyDouble
