Guest Post: Skincare – Winter to Spring!

Guest Post by Caitlin Miller

Our skin changes with the change of seasons. Therefore, we also need to change our skincare routine! We cannot maintain the same skincare methods every season. We need to follow a simple but effective routine to keep our skin perfect!

Winter is the season when days are short and nights are long. We feel cold, and our skin becomes dry and itchy. On the other hand, Spring is entirely different! Our skin will be exposed to more sunlight and environmental factors and naturally more hydrated. So, we need to change our skincare routine. For example, the moisturiser we use in the Winter months will not suit our skin in the Spring!

Here are my top tips for changing skin care while switching from Winter to Spring:

CLEANSING the skin

Cleansing helps us to remove dead skin cells, oil, and dirt from the skin. When Spring comes, using a good cleanser for your skin type will ensure you can show off your skin without having to use makeup and products to mask any blemishes, pigmentation and uneven areas. Cleansing day and night will also ensure that pores are minimised and limit breakouts!

Start exfoliating

In Winter, our skin dries out more quickly and leaves dead skin cells. So, Spring is the time to help skin recover! We all want smooth soft skin and we all know that smooth skin is the key element to helping us look beautiful. Scrubbing helps to clean our skin of old cells and clogged pores. It also helps us to increase the glow of our skin giving a more clear and radiant result! Many exfoliators also contain anti-ageing ingredients, an added bonus! However, you shouldn’t exfoliate more than twice a week as this can stress the skin.

Moisturising the skin

Moisturiser seems a simple thing to use, but it helps us in many ways. A lightweight moisturiser in the Spring will keep the skin looking hydrated and fresh and allows it to breathe without adding to any oil production. It can also be mixed with foundation to create a tinted moisturiser, avoiding the need for heavy foundation!

Apply (and re-apply) sunscreen

With the weather changes, our skin may suffer from peeling and redness as it adapts. Sunscreen can help protect us from this as well as prevent sunburn as the weather hots up! Sunscreen will also protect us from the risk of various types of skin cancer. Luckily, many face and makeup products already contain sun protection so if you haven’t already checked this it’s worth doing so and investing in a few key items if needed! An SPF factor of 50 is ideal – don’t forget to protect your lips as well!

Nature has a lovely relationship with our skin. In Winter we feel uncomfortable as our skin becomes dry. On the other hand, at the time of Spring, we can feel the extra oil in our skin. So, we need to ensure that we balance our skin needs which will result in glowing, naturally youthful skin!

Guest Post: Put Your Best Face Forward: Vegan, Halal & Organic Skincare

Guest Post by Joanna Cheng – Check out her Bio below!

“I’m Joanna, a travel enthusiast that’s always been obsessed with beauty. I grew up playing with eyeshadows and lipsticks. Now that I’m an adult, I spend my time exploring the world. I bring my makeup bag with me everywhere I go—from Puerto Rico to Japan. In addition to exploring the food and sights of new places, I love learning about their ways of beauty, too.”

Read Joanna’s advice on different skincare options:

Skincare is essential to growing old gracefully and keeping a youthful appearance no matter what your age. There are many skincare products on the market today. Finding the perfect ones for you is the first step to a successful routine. Unlike years past when women would use any products in the marketplace, there is a new shift worldwide for healthier and more natural products. Not only is beauty from within a growing trend among women, so are products that are applied to our skin. Smart consumers want to know what they are applying to their bodies and these are three niche markets that are meeting this trend:

Halal

Halal means acceptable in Islam culture where Muslim women have distinct beliefs about not combining their faith with their beauty. These women cannot use cosmetics and skincare products that contain alcohol, “pig-derived” collagen, fat or gelatin. These products are “haram” or not acceptable in their belief system.

Halal products are also cruelty-free. Because the Islam faith respects all earth’s creatures, no animals should be harmed. Halal products and cosmetics are permitted by Islamic law because they are made without the forbidden ingredients.

Halal products are made from all natural sources including plants, raw and unprocessed materials. No animals are harmed in any way to create these cosmetics and skin care products. So many women, especially the Millennials and those who live a holistic lifestyle and care about the way products are manufactured, are embracing Halal.  So that being said, many women in all walks of life, not just Muslims, are seeking natural products that will give them peace of mind and beautiful, healthy skin.

Here are four reasons Halal skincare is trending worldwide:

  • Halal products are holistic
  • They are cruelty-free
  • Halal products are made from natural resources
  • They are trending worldwide

Vegan

Vegan skincare is products that are manufactured without any animal or animal byproducts. Like a vegan diet where no meat or products from an animal is eaten, vegan-friendly skincare does not include any animal byproducts. It is made from plants, minerals, and safe synthetic ingredients. This differs from a vegetarian diet that includes eggs, cheese, and milk.

Vegan skincare products should not be confused with cruelty-free like Halal products. Vegan products are all about the ingredients rather than the manufacturing process. Consumers are becoming more and more educated and interested in the products they are applying to their skin. Because of the way our world’s animals and environment are affected by their production, vegan skincare is increasing in popularity. And that goes for dermatologists and health care providers, too.

Vegan skincare is natural and uses minimal ingredients that nourish the skin, unlike other skincare that is full of chemicals, fragrances, and irritating ingredients. Vegan skincare contains more good for the body ingredients like vitamins, minerals, and hydrating antioxidants.

Here is why vegan skincare is good for the skin:

  • Vegan products contain no animal or animal byproducts
  • The products use minimal ingredients
  • Vegan products nourish the skin with vitamins & minerals
  • They are endorsed by dermatologists

Organic Skincare

Organic skincare products are created from superior, high quality, organically farmed ingredients without pesticides, chemicals, herbicides, antibiotics and other harmful chemicals.  They are part of the growing worldwide trend that consumers want to know what they are applying to their bodies.

The benefit of organic skincare is the movement towards being kinder to yourself, your environment and the planet. Numerous research indicates that there is a connection between chemicals and illnesses. The synthetics in many skincare products and chemicals that are ingested into our bodies. Using organics offers a balance that delivers nutritional benefits and beautiful results. The bottom line is they work better than other products and are better for your beautiful skin!

Azenti Organics – My Review

Hello, beauty fans!

Its been a couple of weeks since my last post for which I am sorry. My day job is pretty exhausting at the moment! I’ve also been writing for other sites where I can – keep an eye on my social media feeds for links to those posts!

Now that I finally have some time to write for my own blog, I wanted to share a new brand I have discovered with you! This brand was unknown to me until my mother brought it to my attention because she knows the creator!

Who is Azenti Organics?

Azenti Organics is an organic skincare provider. They create skincare products formulated by a skincare and aromatherapy professional. The products are made from the highest quality, organic, plant based ingredients and designed to target specific skin types. The founder of Azenti Organics is professionally accredited and qualified as a Skincare Products Practitioner, an Aromatherapist and a professionally qualified Holistic Facial Therapist.

Azenti is:

  • against animal testing
  • supports ethically sourced ingredients
  • uses recyclable packaging and
  • promotes wellness

It is based in the West Midlands but operates nationally. The products range from face oils, body care and remedies to home fragrances and spa treatments. They also offer a wellness subscription, which operates like a beauty box subscription!

What did I test?

I was given the opportunity to test two of the products, a face oil for oily/combination skin and a tropical body oil. I received full-size versions of both, allowing me to test them properly for the last few weeks.

The Face Oil

This oil is gorgeous!  It contains Omega 3 and 6 and is a dry oil. It is designed to help clear congested skin, refines pores, regulates sebum, increases cell turnover and boosts collagen. It contains Organic Fruit and Seed Oils with Plant oils, giving it a pleasant scent on the skin.

When I started using it, I found it lightweight and easily absorbed into the skin. My skin did not feel greasy after use nor did it leave any residue. I used it every morning and some evenings too and I noted that my skin felt soft, brighter, dewy and most importantly there were no breakouts! It’s a truly lovely oil and I would certainly consider buying it in the future!

The Body Oil

I LOVE this oil! From the beautiful packaging to the scent, which is truly tropical, its a delight. I love that I can see the ingredients through the bottle! The oil contains the organic scents of tropical coconut and pineapple, along with nourishing organic sunflower oil that absorbs easily into the skin. It also includes:

  • vitamins A, D and E
  • organic thistle oil packed full of skin friendly omega 6 which helps to clear congested skin
  • organic apricot kernel oil which protects and rejuvenates and
  • organic rosehip oil which has been clinically tested to minimise the appearance of wrinkles promotes collagen and elastin levels and helps to delay the effects of ageing

So, all in all, it’s very good for you!

When I started using it all over my body, I noted that it was very much like a dry oil, absorbing quickly into my skin and leaving a lovely sheen without feeling oily. My skin remained soft and nourished for hours and I could still smell the tropical scents for a little while after use. It also worked well on particularly dry areas like the knees and elbows and calmed some areas of eczema I had developed!  I have been using it every day and so far there have been no downsides – it will definitely go onto my skincare favourites list!

final thoughts

Overall, Azenti Organics produces some lovely products, all good quality and all beneficial to the skin. The ethos of the company is admirable and they ensure that all aspects of the business are ‘world’ friendly as well as creating affordable and varied ranges. If you like using organic products and want to support a brand that values the world this is the company to try. You can see all their products here.
